Windows or Macbook - what do you use and why?

Windows PC hasn't crashed in the 2 years I've had it. Tons of opensource software for Windows, possibly more than for OSX. Can't argue about the security, personally I don't find much software hard to use and looks are subjective.
my high spec dell crashes when it has a paddy trying to carry out jobs my mac would do in a flash....
Either your Dell isn't as high spec as it needs to be or you have a more serious deep rooted issue with the system that needs to be rectified to reach peak performace. The technology is the same. Apple use the same CPUs. GPUs, hard discs etc. as Windows PCs
I actually mean that the technology is built for the macs, therefore it will run seamless, it will allow hardrive to work out of the box, no searching for a driver when the one on the disk doesnt work
I'm not entirely sure what you're addressing with this point. Any internal hdd I've had has simply been a case of connecting the IDE/SATA lead and a power cable and it's been ready to use with the only configuration needed is a splitting it into partitions and if necessary, a format into whatever filesystem is required. No drivers required. Much the same, a USB2 hard drive gets plugged in and is recognised straight away and ready to use.0 -

You are very lucky then, I run two macs and two PC with windows, unfortunately my company have yet to see the light and remain PC based...

I don't think I am. I don't think modern PCs crash anywhere near as often as people claim.
Even my previous PC running XP crashed very rarely. I work in IT and we run 50 odd Windows servers that don't crash. We all have Windows desktops as well and I don't remember any crashing recently.

Well as Apple control the hardware so tightly they're not going to release anything without writing the appropriate drivers for it. But essentially nowadays Macs and PCs are pretty much the same internally, just different cases and OS'es. Most things work out of the box on Windows.
and finally
No idea what twigling is but word runs on Macs so if you rpefer them why not buy it for your Mac?
no one is going to pay £700 for a mac, when all they want to do is run word or browse the internet
Why not? If they're using word regulalry many people would and do. People don't tend to buy Macs for gaming and most people aren't using them to run high end graphics and audio progams so I would think most home users are using them for internet, email and office type stuff.
I already have MS office for the Mac and use it everyday...
finally, my other half browsing Ebay picked up a trojan the other night on his Windows, what a pain in the %^$£ that was. Given the chance I would dump my Pc's and move completely to mac and that comes from someone who works with PC's everyday and works in IT!!

And it's my problem if I have no friends

the network manager at the place where i work has just said..
there isn't as much control on a mac..
pfft... obviously, he hasn't seen mac os x server, and what limits you can impose people etc etc..
this is half the problem, they don't know what the other can do..0 -
I have a mac which I swear by, my son bought a Sony Vaio 15 months ago and it won't charge as the cable connector in the laptop has broken. Sony have just called him and told him it is cheaper to by a new machine. So much for Sony reliability. Mac everytime.0

I've recently started using a friend's mac recently and am seriously thinking about buying one.
Does anyone own one of the new Macbooks and would you recommend buying over the old standard white 13 inch?In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move........Douglas Adams0 -
If A:I is still here trying to compare a box and a seperate monitor with an iMac, that's a really unfair comparison as has been pointed out. And please don't compare Audacity (a great bit of software IMO) with GarageBand. They are completely different! Please don't just Google your way to software. There's loads of great free software out there, that doesn't make it better. 10 free Windows programmes aren't necessarily better than 1 paid for. And if you're not counting your clicks done for simple common tasks, you're definately not the kind of person who appreciates the design and ergonomics that Palm nailed with their handhelds, Apple did well with OSX and Microsoft did quite well with XP (then got it a bit wrong with Vista). I've been there with the 'reinstalling everything every so often thing'. I think that gets boring. I don't have to do this on the Mac. Honest. And it doesn't get slower over time either.
Also, I enjoy playing Windows games on my MacBookPro inside OSX. Analyse that Leopard ;-)
Last thought - why are there so many people who switch from Windows to OSX, and so few who go back?.....
Hope that helps the OP somehow!0 -

Apart from the fact the new Macbook doesn't have Firewire in it, i think the newly designed Macbooks are better... nice and fast, and reasonably easy to upgrade hard drive & memory..
if you don't have a FW device you need compatibility for, get the newer silver ones rather than the white0
