Marty J:
So you don't think it reasonable to think that a £900 Sony VAIO will last longer than a £200 PC from Tescos?
I fail to see where you are going with this. Why are you comparing these two?
Ignoring the fact that some of your comparisons are a little off (Windows Movie Maker is a joke compared to iMovie), Sound Forge, Fruity Loops, Nero and Photoshop come free with PCs do they?
Ok then.
iMovie = VirtualDub, Avidemux, Cinelerra, Kino All of which are freeware!
Garageband = Audacity, Ardour, Traverso Again, ALL freeware!
iDVD = IMGburn
Definitely sounds more inconvenient to me.
Inconvenient? If 6 clicks of a mouse is too hard for you?
Apple design all Macs. Who do you think chooses what harware goes into them?
Yes, Apple choose what PC hardware to put in.
Is your system an all-in-one design?
Why would i want an all in one design? Seems to me more trouble than it's worth. What if i wanted a bigger screen? What if i wanted to upgrade my hard drive to 1TB, would i have to pay apple the £150 they charge, when i could buy a 1TB drive for ~£70 and install it in my PC myself. Or if i wanted 4GB of memory, would i pay apple almost £100?! No, i would pay £40 less for much faster memory and put it in my PC.
iMacs aren't made from totally generic off the shelf components.
Oh really?
Yes, you could buy the software that didn't come on your PC which enables it to do what a Mac can out of the box.
Or I could spend 10 minutes on google finding freeware alternatives.
Oh and @ converse, by no means am i a Windows fan, i can admit that Windows has allot of problems; i just dislike Macs and their pricetag.
Would that be the (almost) 50% that have voted for Windows, because they can indulge their fantasies by "gaming" on a plastic box, while Mac voters prefer to go out and do the real thing?
Oh, and my 'box' happens to be metal.

but, you have to SEARCH, find, and work out what is good software, what is spyware etc, and then you might be stuck with things that are clunky, and crash, and all freeware doesn't come with any warranty or support, whereas software that is commercial software, coming free with your new computer, that there is support for, etc etc that is slightly more appealing0 -
Now, now!
'Tis the season of charity and goodwill. _party_
We should all show our respect (and sympathy), fellow Mac users, for our Redmond-afflicted brethren.
Here is a major new triumph from those whose childhood dream - nay, whose great vocation in life, no less - was to get a job as a Software Engineer for Microsoft (but who, you may recall, forgot that the century was going to end in 1999...) :wall:

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Are your turtlenecks too tight?0 -
What I use: Microsoft ® Windows XP ®
Why: Because I know it well and is reliable and flexible.
I also use Linux for my personal use and have implementations of it at the company I work for, mainly security appliance.
Also use Net-Station for recycling old kit for use with Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server, take a shoddy old P3 Laptop or Desk Box and voila! Working dumb terminals with little setup time and cost involved, as for MAC...well not my flavour of operating system.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
But seriously from a neutral's perspective.0
