I got an X-ray taken and there was a black spot where a bit of my filling should have been. I now have a new filling with an antibiotic gel under it and it will be reviewed in two weeks. If I'm still in pain or it's not settled down I will need to get root canal  or my tooth out. As it's a tooth at the back of my mouth I might just go for the extraction if I have to make the choice, as I know many people who have had root cancel. I called my boss with an update today and when I told her the choice I might have she told me just to get the tooth out :rotfl:
The dentist was really nice, and it could have been a lot worse. Only cost £10 as well, so yay for NHS!
I also cleared OHs loan today and finally registered him for online banking, so I will look after his accounts and maybe even squirrel some money away for himHe is going to pay me an amount back each time he gets money in, and I may well create a spreadsheet. :T
Problem with going for extraction as 1st choice is eventually you run out!
Plus if you ever decide to get the space filled it is generally more expensive than just keeping what you had in the 1st place.
I often have folks choose the extraction option "cause it is at the back and no one can see" This is of course true, until the front teeth start getting overloaded and wear out. They are designed for cutting and smiling, once they start getting pressganged into chewing too they cannae take it! (sorry saw new star trek film last night and slipped into a Scottie moment then:o)
Dont be put off by the scare stories you will hear regarding root canals. If it has abscessed then the nerve will be dead and they are tedious rather than painful.
Ask Gordon Brown!

Seriously. I have had more people fall asleep whilst I have been doing Root treatments than any other procedure. I haven't knocked em out, they just got bored and fell asleep! That tends not to happen if it is painful yes?0 -

Sounds like me, I have to have a tooth removed or a root canal eventually and I opted for the tooth removed but at the moment am waiting intil my temporary filling wears out cos I am a big wuss!!!!Start Date: 27/11/2010
Padding: Day 42
Target £8000
Amount: £562.230 -
I have been naughty and spent money. Here is how it has worked...
I paid off OHs loan today using the £120 in my PAD savings account and £500 of my interest-free overdraft. So, I will be overdrawn for a few months, but now that I have access to his online accounts I know I will be getting paid each month :rotfl:
I had decided before I did this that I wanted to something nice for us, as I have been all about the debt-busting recently, and less about the funtimes, so I booked tickets for us to go to the Toon game at the weekendWatch as we beat the mighty Fulham. Hmmm...
Last time I was at St James' Park Keegan was still in charge and we beat Fulham so I'm hoping we're good luck charms! It was £60 for the tickets to the match and £21 for the train ticket home. My flatmate and his pal are going down for the weekend, so we're getting a lift with themBy the time we pay for a meal after the match (Pizza Hut all the way!) it will be about £100 for a day out, but it is being paid from with the money left over from my holiday in the Highlands earlier in the year, so no credit cards for me :j
Also, while I remember, thanks for the information jugglebug, I will try and bear this in mind when I weigh up my options later in the month. I have an appointment on Bank Holiday Monday, but have been told to call them if I think it's not getting any better. I'm just scared as anyone I know who has had root canal done has found it horrible, and I'm pretty dentist-phobic anyway...hopefully it won't be necessary!

Everyone you know who have had it done, or just everyone who feels the need to talk about it?
What I have found over the years is that the 1 person who has a hard time tells anyone who will listen, all the others just don't feel the urge to share. After all it's a lousy story.....
"I went to the dentist today and nothing bad happened" Not really going to keep your audience entertained that one :rotfl:
I had a root treatment done myself in November, and if it wasn't for the fact I was watching everything the specialist did in the reflection of his microscope lens I would have nodded off myself0 -
Hey f_f - good news on the tooth front, fingers crossed that's all the treatment you need.
Good news on the OH money front too - it's good to be in control!
The newcastle game will be such a buzz, especially if you win. I haven't been to a game in yonks, but you can't beat it for excitement - if you like football that is!One step at a time0 -

...now i'm not usually the betting type, but i suspect that if i bet on you *definitely* making a spread sheet for your OH's payments to you, i'd be right!
glad your tooth has been sorted for now, i think the Real Dentist (hi jugglebug!) is right about the story thing - no one ever tells a boring dentist tale! i haven't had a root canal myself, but the drugs they use are so good these days i'm sure you'll be fine if you have to take that option. maybe you could plug into your nice shiney ipod and listen to a good book whilst they get on with it. xxxMortgage free as of 11/11/15 !
:Anow... to start some serious saving :A

I can't believe that your council tax pays your water too! I want to live in scotland and get my water paid, free eye tests, and by the sounds of it free NHS dental care! Humph!
Woohoo go Scotland, we have crap weather something has to make up for it.
On the dentist note I can say I have only ever had one filling when I was 8 and have been dentist-pain-free since then except for getting my wisdom teeth out so no need to be scared, dentists are lovely people,Weekly Spend Challenge: £0/£30

Morning all!
Back to work today  My face is still sore, but nothing like as bad as it was yesterday so no excuse really - nothing that Ibuprofen won't cure
I had a good nights sleep and so bounced out of bed this morning at 6.10am. So far I have made dinner (Lamb chops in the slow cooker, om nom nom) done some washing and soaked the dishes. Off to shower now and will hopefully have time to wash some of the dishes and hang the washing on the line before work.
Happy Hump Day!

I'm a complete dentist coward & was given the same option a few years ago - remove or root canal. I went for the root canal option, was so scared that my dad had to take me ...oh boy did i feel like a complete wuss !! there really was nothing to it - 5 years on, no further problems (with that one anyway!) ipod is good idea, wish I'd though of it!
enjoy your dinner, sounds scrummyI do not make mistakes, I learn lessons.I work to live, not live to work.I love to live & live to love.Good enough is exactly that.0
