Perhaps you could pay it off for him, then make him pay the money back at a more manageable amount for him... that way he would be still be paying, but would be incurring any charges. Can't give much advice on the reclaiming, but it's definately worth a shot.... maybe a letter to the ombudsman too...?
Re the depression, are the new meds and Head Dr appts helping at all? If not, is there anyone else that can help (again, no experience with depression) or can you talk to his Dr. At least if he's ffeeling a bit better, he'll be able to go and sort the JSA etc, which will help in the long run.
Thats probably no use at all, but wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you.... and have a (((hugs)))

I think I am going to pay it off for him, but will have to do battle with his sodding male pride
Meds are making him sleep all day, leading to self-blame and other such things when he gets out of bed at three and has missed the day. I'm working on that with him, but I'm up at half six for work, so we don't see a lot of each other...
All will be well, it's just that I now have many things to think on
*edit* I've posted on the PPI board, so hopefully good news come morning!

Ah bless ya, horrible situation. I agree with Sarah though, pay it off for him if you can afford to do so but appeal to his sense of manliness and look at it as another MSE decision - you both save money by not having to pay the charges, he has a set (but affordable) plan to pay you back with maybe a minimal 'inconvenience' payment on top.
I think its the way forward to be honest.
Hope things get sorted

hi there
mens pride is always a hard one
but in the long run what is ther point of having savings when other things are incurring interest and charges, its false economy
the PPI thing is a big thing at the mo so dont take no for an answer tho the amount of time working is a tricky one as it is your word agiainst theres!!
sounds like the other half is on the wrong tablets, make sure he goes back and discusses it with the doc and he will feel loads better and start stepping in the right direction
GOOD LUCK
we are all here for you:j0 -
Morning all!
Really quick one from me as I'm running late for work (As always) but will just make it on time if I get in the shower in the next 5 minutes!
Haven't spoken to better half about anything as he was out last night with a friend (Pre-planned night out) and must have gotten home after I went to bed. I went to sleep early last night (Half ten) and woke up at five o'sodding clock  Been dozing on and off from then until half six when I normally get up.
I've been thinking about the situation and have the following funds available:
£120 ING Savings
£200 Emergency Savings (Was going to be for our next trip Oop North)
£370 Pay Off Debt/Oh Sh*t I'm Redundant Fund
£700 overdraft with A&L (Still interest free)
I think I would use the interest-free overdraft with A&L to pay it off, and will talk to OH about this tonight. I could then PAD my little behook off to clear it, and pay whatever he gives me into the Loan/Redundancy fund.
What do you all think?
My brain hurts. As does my face, which I think is something to do with the fact I haven't been to a dentist in years. Yay! More things to look forward to :rotfl:

Awh f_f just catching up with your diary when I really shouldn't be at work and just wanted to say me thinking about you and your difficult situation. I don't know what to advise really - maybe pay it off but tell him it is just a loan which he can repay to you (male pride and all that)?
If he is entitled to JSA or some benefits though, he really should be claiming, I know it's hard but you need to tell him (don't know why I saying this as know you will already have done so!) to get down to the Benefits Office, even if you have to take a half day off work to go with him, you could be missing out on money every week which would be a huge help to you both.
Anyway, thinking about you, you keep your chin up girl. Maybe now is a good time for you to give yourself a wee treat - a facial or massage or something - after all you have done so well and maybe need a wee boost for yourself too.
Take care
P

Another one to suggest JSA. Every other so and so seems to be claiming, rightfully or wrongfully! Sorry having a bad experience with a backdated claim they wont validate. Anyways, its £60 + a week that your OH is currently not getting which he could be!** Proud to be dealing with my debts **LBM - Jan 2009 _pale_ : £24,802.21 :eek:February 2010 :silenced: : £18,078.47 (not including OD)July 2010

Hi
Just came a cross your diary today and have read it from start to end. Rather than read and run I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed it and how well you have done and still are doing. All those extra pounds have certainly added up over the months. Good luck I have subscribed to your diary and will be encouraging you with your progress.2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

more (((hugs))) from me! hope you've had a better day today.
having had some experience with depression, i know it's hard for your OH to do what needs to be done. i agree that maybe you could go with him to the job centre, hopefully then that's a positive step for him & will perk him up a little. i know it's easy to say and hard to do, but even if it is 3pm when he gets up, just getting out and in the fresh air (and sunshine if he's lucky!) will improve his mood.
i also vote for paying off his loan but setting him up with some interest free payments to pay you back over a period of time.
hope you have a good weekend! xxxxMortgage free as of 11/11/15 !
:Anow... to start some serious saving :A

Welcome to the madhouse! And well done for reading all the way through - that's a lot of nonsense to get through :rotfl: I like it when new folk join, so pull up a chair, help yourself to the biscuits and join in
I have had a better day today. OH has a hangover (after three beers, lightweight!) and is avoiding all chat around his loan and so on. I shall feed him and then have another try I think.
Work is still poo. It's the weekend though:D I am working tomorrow though  as I got offered overtime at the eleventh hour and it's so scarce at the moment you have to take it when it's offered. I will do somewhere around three hours I think, which will be around £35 before tax etc. Every little helps!
I went shopping after work and got pizza for tea (Lazy I know, but it they were both reduced!) along with some essentials that we had run out of. I also got Beef Gravy (Morrisons equivilant of Finest) reduced to 12p. I saw it was freezable and will use it in something. Maybe throw some stewing steak in the slow cooker with carrots and gravy? What do you think?
I'm very proud of myself for not buying cake :j I bought a small bottle of red wine though (which I hate) for using in sauce when cooking. I think I'm getting quite good at this :rotfl:
Must go, need to cook dinner! More updates will follow when I have [strike]nailed other half to a chair and made him talk about money [/strike] sorted out what we're doing
