All of the following must be done today as the parentals land later and the house must be clean...

    To Do List

    • Tidy living room
    • Wipe down sofa and armchair
    • Hoover and mop all floors
    • Clean the bathroom
    • Clean the cooker
    • Dust
    • Sort out washing that is already clean
    • Do more washing and hang it up. Heavy rain forecast according to the BBC website, so can't hang it up outside (Boo!)
    • Figure out why the light in the living room isn't working. There's no power going to it...odd.
    • Sort out a couple of bags of things for the tip/charity shop

    Evening Internets :D

I have had a day full of domestic [strike]drudgery[/strike] bliss and have added mopping to the list. Woo! I haven't done anything about stuff for the charity shop, but hey ho. I still have no idea why the living room light isn't working though. Anyone got any ideas? The fuse hasn't been tripped as far as I can see on the fusebox. Normally when you turn on the living room light you hear the "Bzzz" of electricity doing its happy thing (It's on a dimmer) but there's nothing now, not a thing. I would really like there to be light again!

We went to see In The Loop today. It's mad and shouty and I think I have learned some new swear words (The joke about the Sh*tting Forecast had me in stitches) but it was very good. I did want to go and see Wolverine (Mmmm....Hugh Jackman) but I think we will go and see that on Sunday. Even though t'other half is a student it costs £4.70 at the movies to take him -

Parents have arrived safely and are safely tucked up in their hotel away from me :rotfl: They popped in tonight to drop off food parcels (Beans, pasta, home-made cake and washing tablets) and some meat for the freezer.

    I now have extra:

    • Lamb chops x 2 bags
    • Lamb shoulder x 2 (Blooming enormous, there goes my plan of buying mince for the freezer. I'm not going to have any room!)
    • Lump o'venison
I have no idea what part of the deer the venison is from, but it's easily large enough to feed two. Now, People of the Internet, how the heck do I cook it?

I now have a lump o'lamb shoulder defrosting on the counter as there is no other way that I can fit it in my freezer. I am going to be slow-cooking this one and perhaps making some soup too. It's all go in Fresian Towers :D

Tomorrow I head to the shops with my mother (Eek, eek, eek) and then we're going out for dinner I think. I will also fit in a shop in Asda and also Makro, so lots of stocking up for me I think. Since I discovered the slow cooker I'm going through a lot of canned tomatoes!

    Hi f_f
Hope you enjoying your weekend with your parents down visiting from the sunny north! Aren't they wonderful with their food parcels too?!
Just to let you know, I did the ham/coke thingie in the slow cooker overnight on Thurs, left it to cool all day and we had it on Fri for tea and it was surprisingly nice so I'd recommend that one. In fact, coz I bought a big bottle of the cherry coke which i don't like to drink and half of it is still left, in true MSE style I don't want to chuck it away, even although I could probably clean the loo with it, I have been to Mr T to buy another ham to cook another one with the leftover coke and then I am going to split it into two and freeze it. Anyway, enough ramblings from me.
    Nighty night all.

    Hey F_F

You could do a venison stew in the slow cooker if you haven't use it yet. It is nice with potatoes and shallots and a red wine. It is quite rich as venison has such a strong flavour so if you bulk it out with other veg it should go a long way.

I have never tried the gammon with coke but again have heard lots of people say it is delicious. The only way I have done it is in the oven with honey and cloves. You score the skin in a criss-cross pattern and then put cloves in the crosses then take them out with eating. It is lovely with salad and potatoes for lunch.

Did you go and see Wolverine? I went mid-week and thought it was really good, looks of superhero action.

    Hi Fresian and everyone.

No idea about the light, I know it sound obvious but is the bulb gone? (I HONESTLY don't mean that to sound patronising!) It's unusual that its just that one light, usually they are all on the same circuit so if one goes they all go.

To all those who have tried the ham and coke thing, does it make the cooker all sticky and hard to clean?

    xx
Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o

    Afternoon all!

I was going to go to the movies today but can't be bothered, going to watch lots of The Wire instead :D If any of you watch it, how hot is Stringer?? Om nom nom nom indeed :rotfl:

I have had a lovely time with the parentals. I went to the shops with them yesterday, which used to be fun but in my new MSE guise is now my idea of hell. My mum loves to shop, and will happily visit three branches of Marks and Spencers in the same day. I just don't get any pleasure out of it as there is nothing I need and I have no spare money to waste. The only thing I spend on yesterday was some reduced gifts in Boots for birthdays :A

I did explain to mum that I would rather when she came down if we did something instead of shopping. Next time they visit they are going to come for an extra day and we will have a day trip so I can avoid the shops :j

Apart from the dreaded shopping, we had a nice dinner out last night - Laura2481, if you like a good Chinese visit the Chinese Manor House in Corstorphine (Number 12 bus will get you there) Tasty times indeed. It was £58 for the three of us, so not MSE but tasty good :D

I got a lift to Asda and have now stocked my freezer beyond all comprehension and am about to go and put a massive lamb shoulder in the oven for today's dinner.

Must be off, is everyone having a good weekend?

Dinner is now in the oven:

Large lamb shoulder, soaked in water for a couple of hours to drain the blood out of it
Scored the flesh at the top
Herbs and pepper sprinkled over the top
Garlic put into the cuts in the top of the meat

Should be ready in about three hours, and will hopefully be very tasty. I have grand schemes for making something tasty with leftovers too :D
