Can't believe that the shower is going to end up costing so much! But at least there is a Man With Cheaper Spanners!! Yay for him:T

Hey f_f just caught up with your last few days! What a bu*gger the whole shower thing has turned out to be. I hope your bonus is more than you thought so at least the shower cost won't seem so bad then.
You certainly do deserve that break away. In my usual dolly daydream way i'm hoping to shoe horn a hol in for us at some point this year
Take care, catch up soon xOne step at a time0 -
how are they getting upto £1k for your bathroom? we have just had our bathroom gutted, now bear in mind it's only a small bathroom but we had the whole room gutted, a plaster board wall removed, a new bathroom suite (and not a cheap one - not that there's anything wrong with a cheap one but they are too big for our bathroom), we've had amazing new tiles, laminate flooring, lots of electrics moved, including a storage heater, kitted it out with new fixtures and fittings and it came to less than £2k including labour.
I can sympathise about using a jug though for almost 2 weeks we were completely without a bath/ sink so had to go to my parents to use their facilities unless we used the kitchen.
I really hope you get it sorted, and love the end result as much as we love our bathroom.0 -
Hey ho,
To be honest, I'm not sure, but there will be quite a lot of labour involved - they need to remove the shower boards that are there at the moment (Floor to ceiling boards that are easier to clean than tile) and replace them. As they are cheap boards and I wanted to make sure that this didn't happen again, I am opting to replace them with boards of a much higher quality. I could do this bit for cheaper, but this is what caused the water leak in the first place.
I'm also getting a new shower screen put on as they will have to remove the old one to do the other work and there is no guarantee that it will be watertight if they return it to the shower base. Again, I could attempt it and take the saving but I would honestly rather pay the extra for the peace of mind of this not happening again. Relations with my downstairs neighbour are now completely knackered and I don't want to flood her again. I don't think either of us could cope with the stress!
So I'm paying the money in the hope that this doesn't happen again, and also in the hope that due to negotiating a bit of a discount for cash I can get the plumber to fix my wonky toilet while he's in0 -
Hey FF
Glad the men with cheaper spanners have given you a better quote for your shower.
As for your glasses go to the place I told you about - I had to go on Saturdayand am getting 2 new pairs of glasses (1 solar lenses that change in the sun and the other going out glasses for £107)

Evening all!
Well, my payslip is showing an excess of £653.17 (But who would count the 17p? A dedicated budgeteer, that's who!) I have added a column to my spreadsheet called "Woo Bonus" and will be adding it into my monthly pot of money. I still haven't really thought of what to do with all the money. I have spent the last few months getting a real kick out of being good with my money for the first time in years, and don't just want to blow money on things I don't need.
So, my plans so far are:
- Car hire for trip to the Frozen North - approx £130 for 5 days car hire, to be booked tomorrow
- Spending money for the trip - £120 which will cover all petrol too. The total budget for the trip will therefore be £250.
- New glasses!!! No more than £100 to spend on these. I may go to the wholesaler that Palema advised, but it's a pain to get to from my house on the bus from what I can figure out. Optical Express are doing two pairs for £79 and the wee man in the shop said that this was including lenses etc, so I'll see how that goes
- £100 on treats! I don't know what form these are going to take, but I think I am going to go into town next weekend once the money has hit my account and get a couple of things that I do need but didn't want to buy until I had some "spare" money - a new pair of work shoes and some make up I think
- £50 to the pot for t'other halfs birthday. Part of this is the trip away, but I still want to buy him something special.
Out of interest, do you think I can count my bonus in the Summer Sizzler challenge? It is money I didn't think I would make...I'm not sure if that will be cheating or not :rotfl:
Right, I have a book to read, so I'm going offline.
See y'all in the morning!

Yay for the bonus :j i'm so chuffed for you f_f as you've been doing so well. In true f_f stylee you have budgeted that money well too
I haven't seen the summer sizzler thread so i can't say whether you're cheating or not, but guessing it's always worth a try
Enjoy chilling out with your book xxOne step at a time0
