I was out and about today so had a vanilla shake for breakfast and a caramel fudge bar for lunch. With the vanilla shake I 'shook' it for ages so it was nice and creamy and had loads of foam on top and then poured it over some ice cubes in a glass. Was quite nice which is more than can be said for the caramel fudge bar. It was like eating chocolate covered sawdust - not that I've ever eaten sawdust I hasten to add! :rotfl: Was more than ready for my evening meal I can tell you - gorgeous rib eye steak served with stiry fried mushrooms, onions, pak choi etc. Glad I only bought two of the replacement bars as I'm sure the other one won't taste much better.

Does anyone know if the aitkins bars taste any nicer?

  • Hi guys! I haven't been on here fior ages as I haven't been doing the diet - I lost four punds when I first did it and kept them off even though I've been eating pretty random stuff, a combination of healthy and not, drinking and not drinking, but that initial loss has stayed off cos I was eating the Atkins nut bars as snacks at work.

Anyway, after callking in at the chemist for the first time in ages I spotted the new bars and thought I'd give them a whirl, this is what prompted me to post. The apple bars are DISGUSTING! I can't remember the last time I tatsed anything that bad, and they have the nerve to say on the packaging 'tastes delicious' - if you hadn't eaten in a year, maybe. Choc caramel ones are better but I'm not sure I'd buy them again - I really like the Atkins bars but was looking for a bit of variety. I'm amazed that the CS bars get past the taste panel - or maybe they don't have one! Yuk yuk and yuk.

Anyway, I bought some shakes and soups and will be replacing a few meals with them, I think I need to have a daily gander on here to keep up my willpower, strength in numbers as they say!

I had the chocolate fudge bar today and it was much nicer than the caramel flavour. I'm [STRIKE]not sure[/STRIKE] know its worth £2.29 of my money though  I think I'll definitely have a look at the Aitkins bars!

Hi guys I can't stand the meal replacement bars either but i did buy the mint choc snack bars a couple of weeks ago and they weren't too bad if you need a choc fix, I bought a box of the caramel ones today and away to try one soon. The Atkins advanatage bars are ok they are better than the CS meal replacement bars (but the Atkins Advantage bars shouldnt be used as a meal replacement, just as a snack for anyone who didn't know) still not brilliant but I bought the Atkins indulge bars (they are on offer 2 for 3 at the mo in boots and Tesco) and they are really good- they taste just like chocolate should. I try and use it as a treat thought so I don't get used to eating chocolate again!!

Weigh day for me today and I put on 1Ib :o but to be honest I expected that after the weekend and it has made me realise I can't go back to that way of eating, also last night I had really bad stomach pains and I think it was because I had come of the diet of the weekend and my body was readjusting.

Oh just had a taste of the choc caramel CS snack bar and it is really nice!

    Hi Everyone!

I had my third weigh in tonight and I have lost another 3 pounds so that is 11 pounds in 3 weeks! I am so excited as I have never lost that much on a diet before!

I love this diet! I haven't felt deprived once, the shakes are lovely and IT WORKS!!

According to the CS helpline the Atkins bars are too high in carbs and fat. Apparently the highest carbs and fat content we should be eating is the same as the CS snack bars. Under 13g carbs and 5g fat!

I didn't think I had lost this week so I am really pleased! I am going to up my exercise as I have only lost 1/4 inch from my waist. Plus I want to be fit and healthy not just slim.

Hope you are all doing well on CS!!

That's great news well done! A bit confused about the Atkins bars though as the CS website says you are allowed these  saying that the website itself is very confusing about what you are and what your not allowed. Will have to check it out again!

    Hi

Checked out the CS website again just to make sure and there is nothing to say that Atkins bars are not allowed and a lot of people use them as they are cheaper than the CS bars, if someone finds something that says different please tell me-I think using them as an occasional treat is ok? The net carbs of the Atkins bars are 2g.
Will keep checking myself though just to make sure, might ask one of the moderators just to confirm x

I think the confusion is because they don't want to associate too much with the Atkins thing, and also that they want you to buy their own.
I read something a while ago (and I'm not able to find it again:mad:) about CS not using the polyols as they are all about "natural" etc. (funny that, the CS snack bars contain some polyols)
That polyols make up the bulk of Atkins bars is why they have such a low net carbs - polyols are not absorbed by the body - we just poop them out more or less as they went in - thats why they have a laxative effect if you eat lots, and why they are subtracted from the total carbs.
Lots of CS-ers in Uk and Ireland use Atkins bars. They are neither popular, nor easily accessible in Australia so they don't really feature on most Aussies' horizons.
I've been eating Atkins bars for most of the time I've been on the diet and still lost weight.

Oh and part of the reason I tend to take the CS helpline with a pinch of salt... We are told to only eat foods with 10g per 100g carbs (or less). A quick look at the nutrition box on a CS snack bar shows these are "forbidden" foods, and yet we are encouraged to eat them..?

    It's only a game
