How would this work with a student loan coming in (and going right out again!)?
  • Hi all.

Just a little up date that might be of interest.

From recent information we understand that 700 plus Debt Relief Orders have now been approved.

I just wanted to say that the CAB should always be your first port of call, they are such a great bureau and can offer so muich useful information. You may have to wait a bit, but at least you'll definitely get the info you need.

Does anyone visit your home to value or take you goods?

I live with my mum and brother and sisters so don't want them taking things that are not mine.

No nothing at all will happen like that!!
The DRO process is relatively pain free!

:exclamati:exclamati:exclamati IMPORTANT DRO FEE INFO!!! :exclamati:exclamati:exclamati

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I certainly only just found out - although you have 6 months to pay the £90 DRO fee, you must make a payment within 10 days or your application will be cancelled!!

Unfortunately, I found this out through someone learning the hard way. Having waited over a month for an appointment, they completed the application at CAB and (frustratingly) they had the money with them to pay the full fee that day. This is what they told CAB adviser they were going to do - I was there - so nothing more was said.

For one reason or another they didn't pay the fee, but nobody else realised this until 10 days later when CAB were informed that the DRO application had been cancelled, which means that they now have to wait for another appointment to go in and resign everything.

Luckily CAB have beeen very understanding and the debt in question is way under the £15k limit, but it has still added a further month or so's delay.

Sorry if this has already been covered (I didn't have time to read back through all 15 pages) but I thought I should mention it as someone close to £15k could easily miss the boat due to this.

Once the barcode is generated, you have six months to complete payment of £90

Once the application is submitted, the payment must be completed within ten days.

This is covered in the National Debtline factsheet

    Hey

Does anyone know how joint debts are dealt with the DRO? I have £6k of debt, my OH has £7k of debt and we have £11k joint debt. Does the joint debt get spilt in 2 or does the whole £11k get added onto my debt and the same £11K get added onto my OHs debt too? If it gets added onto both we wont qualify for it.

Bad news I'm afraid. Joint and several liability means that you have 17k debt, OH has 18k

Yes thats quite true. Your intermediary must not press the submit button until all the balance will be paid within the next ten days.
