    Hi,
Can anyone give me some advice? I am separated from my husband (for 18 months now) but are still married, and seem to fit the criteria to apply for a DRO. I have no assets and dont own a car. The only worry I have is that I rent the house that i live in from my husband at a reduced rate. My name is not on the mortgage and I didnt contribute to the deposit or monthly payments when we were together. He is concerned that because we are still married the house may be seen to be partly mine and is worried about losing it if i cant sort my debts out is this possible? i really need some help as git myelf into a mess!

Hi, I'm not 100% sure about where you'd stand with this 2 be honest....Was this house you are now renting from your husband your marital home? If so, I would think that it could be looked upon as you having a vested interest in the property. If you were to divorce you would be entitled 2 some form of settlement.....this could be the 2nd property that you are now residing in. It would be in your best interest 2 contact an independent debt advisor. You could use your local CAB, call National Debtline 0808 808 4000, or CCCS 0800 138 1111. These will be able 2 advise you on what would be your best course of action. Good luck :)
I am a Leo...& as such I will defend my "pride" ferociously....you have been warned!

I think Broken Spirit is spot on, it could be more complicated than a simple response on here, it requires a more detailed conversation with an advisor...

As long as you are still within the £50 limit, i wouldn't have thought it would matter. Just my opinion though.:D

  • I had two basic Cashminder accounts with the Co-operative Bank, one of which was in arrears and was included in my DRO. I have just received a letter today telling me that as a result of my DRO, it is their policy "to not operate this type of account under such circumstances", and that they will be closing down my active account with them on the 30th of October.

I've just applied for and successfully been accepted for a basic account with Barclays in the last fortnight, as I was deeply unhappy with the way The Co-operative Bank staff spoke to me at times during this process, but I had been hoping to keep my account with them there as a back-up. Is it right that the Co-op Bank usually close your accounts once you are in a DRO?

Yes, that is normally the case - ideally your intermediary would have pre-warned you. I am a bit disappointed to hear negative comments about The Co-operative Bank staff as their reputation is quite good, unlike most of the other banks.

Thankyou for the reply :) My intermediary was absolutely terrible, so it is of little surprise to me that they didn't keep me informed :rotfl:

Well I informed Barclays of my DRO so I'm confident there shouldn't be any problems at their end. To be honest, Barclays may have been named the most-complained about in a recent MSE article- but quite frankly, I'm far happier with them than Co-operative so far. The main difference is that I felt like a valued customer at Barclays, whereas my Co-op branch staff always had this way of looking/talking down at me and making me feel like a pest as a Basic account customer. To be fair, their phone staff have been great in the past- but the way they've spoken to me at times lately while doing the DRO has disgusted me.

Aah. I've only ever dealt with their Manchester call centre (no branches where I live) - maybe that's why I've never had a bad experience.
