You'll be debt free at the end of the 12 month moratorium period when you finish the DRO.
the debt still exists (in case you have any changes that cause your order to be revoked) but the creditors cannot take further action against you or chase you for payment

I thought the debt was wiped after 12 months..?. They only thing remaining was a marker on your credit file for six years to say you had been subject to a DRO....

dro sucessful on 21/1/11. how long does it take for creditors to get notification of this as the last few days we have been getting automated phone calls from natwest for payments to be made. up to now we have had 20 phone calls from them. !!!!!!

If you still get calls/letters (i did with barclays), then when you receive the paperwork with your dro number on there just answer the call and tell them you are now subject to a dro and give them the number. The guy from barclays checked there and then and said oh yeah, sorry we shan't bother you again and they haven't.

yes you're right, i should have said the debt remains for the 12 month period, and only upon completion of the DRO does it clear. I think the post to which i was responding suggested the debt gets cleared upon approval from the IS.
Apologies for any confusion I've caused!

Hi everyone sorry for not getting back to you and saying whats been happoning, lol, everything seems so slow in all this.My advice if anyones thinking they might be pennyless in six months time start applying now!lol....

I met with the soliciter at the CAB office or rather someone working for the solicitors, and she said it would be about 2-3weeks before things went through and i would hear from them, and that was only because i had gotten the credit reports myself,if i hadnt it would have taken a lot longer! The "Experian" credit report has finally arrived today, its only taken them 3 months!
The solicitor said the fee of £125 for their services would be covered by "legal aid" but i would still need to pay the £90 DRO fee.I have another appointment to see the "DRO solicitor" at their main offices a week wednesday. When i asked what should i tell the crediters because they are now phoning me,she said tell them you will pay only £1 and they should contact them if any problems....Its been amazing, before when i have spoken to the crediters telling them i had no money they were hostile, now i mention "my solicitor told me to tell you" there as friendly and helpful as anything! lol!!!!! Perhaps meeting with these solicters because the CAB in my area no longer does DRO's wasnt as bad as i had imagined it might have been!
Lol, sorry i am waffling, but it is such a relief to know at last something is happening! This has been the only place thats been any comfort, i cant even think how many thousands of others that stay quite that must find this place a God send in this minefield that is debt!
I will post how the meeting goes at their office, just incase theres someone else reading this board thats thinking of using solicitors to get a DRO...

I just noticed the post about phone calls from banks.
I had the problem too but i phoned them and told them i was in the process of getting a DRO and they all said "ok" and just wanted the " reference number".I told them i wouldnt be seeing the solicitor until next week and dont at the moment have a referrence number to give them ,and they were ok with that, they just said i should phone them back with the referrence number once i had it.And so far the automated calls have stopped, though i was told the postal reminders couldnt be stopped because they were automatic.Just thought i would say because i am with Natwest,Asda,Tesco,CapitalOne and so far all annoying calls have stopped.
  • You're very lucky then, I have a lot of clients who are persistently badgered even after we've sent them a copy of the DRO...

My advice would be is if it sounds to good to be true then it is.

Please get in touch with someone like National Debtline and go through your options with them.
