mazza, this is what prevented me from trying Champix. My doctor wouldn't prescribe it without one-to-one counselling at my local pharmacy, which would take time to arrange, then report sent back to my doctor, another appointment to see him, blah, blah, blah
My impatience got the better of me in the end and I turned to reading instead
Read excellent reports about Champix though and wish you loads of luck if you pursue this route
Keep us posted.

Hi All,
I gave up on Champix. At my surgery I had to see the practice nurse then she got a prescription from the Dr. which I collected a couple of days later.
I didn't have the sickness but I did feel very light headed so I had to make sure I took my first of the day when I got to work instead of before hand. I decided to stop on day 9 but when it came, I didn't quite feel ready although the desire to smoke had almost disappeared I still thought I needed about 5 during the day. In the end I stopped on day 14 and even then I fel aprehensive even though I may as well have been trying to smoke a carrot as the champix worked that well.
I'm not the best at taking tablets and I kept forgetting, especially the afternoon one so by week three I decided not to take them at all. I've now been smoke free for 2months 1 week and can honestly say I'm not missing it. The champix tapped into my will power where other things I tried had failed
Good luck to you all, no matter how you are doing it.

Oh Shelley, you really do seem to be suffering with the nausea, though you're doing all the right things to help yourself, keep it all up and hopefully soon you'll be able to say goodbye to the blessed things! Still, if it achieves purpose then so be it. Keep strong Shelley - and sleep well!!!
You're welcome Dreamingalound. You did the very best thing possible when you realised you were being irritable with your OH. Running is marvellous and releases the endorphins in the brain, thus making you feel so much better. You're also looking at all the positives, good for you! The sneezing will gradually lessen, do you ever 'feel' them coming from your chest?? That happened to me a lot and I could feel a slight soreness in the chest. Try to find something to help you through the evenings, how about starting/renewing a hobby, something that needs your attention. All things pass though!
Hi again SandC!!! Oh, do you sound so very, very determined this time round! You sound hell bent on quitting so all the very best in doing so!:j
Hi Mintoze and many congratulations on achieving so much!!!! :TYou've done amazingly well and I bet you're so very proud, I'm thrilled for you, thrilled to see you back too! It's always so motivating for 'non smokers in progress' to see posts such as your so do pop back again Mintoze, how about your 6 monther!!!
Well done with the clementines and drinking lots of water Mimi!! I'm glad someone takes notice! Great news that you've now achieved a full week smoke-free!!! :TYou're doing wonderfully Mimi, do keep if up this time - please! A good idea to make your quitting public by putting it on your sig! It's good to see you here helping others so much, a great sign believe me!!!
Hi again Mazza, if you really do feel able to quit now then why not give it a try??! You've absolutely nothing to lose and may just find that this time the urge is strong enough for you to go cold turkey AND succeed!!! If you're kept hanging about waiting it concerns me you may 'go off the boil'. I'd go for it and stop now if it was me, think about it and IF you don't succeed without taking anything you can always go back and smoke less til the time comes for the clinic. Viewing it in that light might help you so much!
I've never heard anyone saying anything about Champix such as you're saying, just mostly about the nausea, but that certainly isn't with everyone. How are you going??
Great to see you Naomi! I'm delighted that you're doing so very well this time around!!
Keep very, very strong everyone, it pays such great dividends!

I've been sneezing and coughing and generally being very 'throaty' as well.
I feel I've turned the major corner now though, I really would recommend Allen Carr clinics. Don't ask me how exactly it gets through to you but it does. I thought it was a bit loopy to be told you would actually enjoy the withdrawal from nicotine but I have to say it has been. Instead of feeling deprived you are just counting down the days to freedom.0 -

I'm completely new to the site, but I've also given up smoking (12/03/09 and counting :j) and am looking for any extra support I can get. It's really tough, but I'm managing with my inhalator and the odd gum.
From 20 a day to 0 and I have £78.40 in my jar. I'm going to treat myself to something after one month, but after that the spare money is going towards my debts!
Great thread though, thanks for all the tips

Thanks DreamingAloud. They've started a cessation group at my office where a few of us who wanted to quit got together, and someone from Occupational Health contacted the Health Authority to "get a man in"
.
I go along every Wednesday and he provided me with a prescription for the inhalator (wouldn't give me patches because I suffer with ezcema) and to be honest I've got on really well with it.
I've also signed up to the NHS Together Programme and to Nicorette's Active Stop online support programme. I need all the support I can get though, and the weekly meeting's really helping....Actually get to see my CO levels dropping (8 the first week, 0 last and we'll see at 12 what it is for this week :j)

Carbon Monoxide level at this week's meeting........ ZERO!
