Not entirely sure how much I have saved but I do love that feeling of having NOT to find £3 for a packet of fags which I never had any problem doing. Wish the same could be said for all the other expenses in my life. One thing I am finding is how tired I am in the evening, much more so than when I was smoking. Anyone else had this symptom whilst not smoking?
Have been doing some jiggery pokery with the finances today and if there was ever a time I would need a fag this would be it, but my resolve remains strong as I hope it does everyone else. Enjoy your weekends.

thoughts of cigs weigh heavily today. have been trying to keep myself busy but am finding it very difficult to keep my mind off them. never mind, got to day 17 and im not going to give in that easily.
hope you are all enjoying your weekends. Not massively in debt, but possibly heading there!0 -

Week 6
Had my chemo on Friday & althogh I don't feel sick when eating & drinking at the moment, I do feel sick when sucking my inhalator - exactly what I wanted to happen :j
Come on you lot, you CAN do it!0 -
Feel like a yoyo ! Been on and off this thread and the original one more times than I care to remember, and still not stopped. Reading the positive effects, and recalling them from my last 4 month smoke free period I want that more than I want a cigarette, that's what I have to keep in mind.
I've stopped drinking and as a result don't smoke as many, but it's still £2.96 a day I'm burning. I really don't enjoy it. Punctuating the day with the fag breaks.
I have one left, and that will be it.
Will be back in 24 hours to report my success.:DDC.

I'm 38 and desperate to quit smoking.
My husband smokes too and we have two small children.
I had no problem quitting while pregnant and have had numerous other attempts but always ended up going back to it.
Since meeting my husband it's always been him who cracks first and he never managed to quit when I was pregnant.
We have both given up today but I know there is a 70% chance that when he gets home he will have bought a pack of ten. I'm used to smoking very little during the day because of the children - it's in the evenings when we sit down with a glass of wine after the kids are in bed that gets me.
I'm starting to look my age, my teeth are yellow, I cough in the mornings and when I run up to the loft room to hang out washing I get out of breath. I'm sick of it and so worried that one or both of us will get ill before our children grow up.
Has anyone managed to quit successfully when their partner still smokes? I just know he's going to cave in at some point, even if it's 3 months from now. I need to re-programme my brain somehow so that instead of thinking "oh well that's me back on the fags too" I can feel smug that I haven't caved and then try to encourage him back on the wagon.
On the patches so no cravings so far. I usually smoke 2 in quick succession first thing and then manage to go without until they're eating their tea when I slip outside for a crafty one. Lately my daughter has been shouting "mummy come back in" which makes me feel awful. I tell her I'm going to take the rubbish out...she's nearly three and I suspect I won't get away with that one for much longer.
I hate the smell, am absolutely paranoid about people knowing that I smoke because it just feels like such a scummy thing to do when you're a mother of young children. I don't know one mum that smokes (unless they're doing it in secret like me).
From a money saving point of view if oh gives up too we could use the 4k a year that we jointly blow up in smoke and use it to overpay our mortgage.
Sorry for the long post but I just have so many reasons to quit but zero willpower.
Any encouragement would be really welcome!0 -

OH stopped smoking 11pm saturday night and, as far as I know hasn't had one yet (though he did go out last night), he is taking Champix. He stopped 22 years ago and then re-started 4 years ago (idiot)so he knows how hard/easy it is and what to expect. I am not quite ready but trying to support him and have cut down by 50% so far and actually haven't found that as hard as I thought so there is hope.
I don't like telling people when I try to stop because it gets on my nerves when they ask how it's going, especially if I fail, so it's nice to be able to post here and just get things off your chest - as it were!We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
Wow! So many people and so many answers I want to give! lol
Hi Ameliarate, I can really empathise with you about not being quite ready. I spent quite a fair bit of last year trying and failing to quit. I don't think I was ever in the right frame of mind. Someone told me about Champix at the beginning of September and it took me until January to get myself to the Docs and even then another week to take the plunge as it were. You will eventually get there but make sure you are happy to do it at your own pace.
PurpleDaisy - I took champix as is Tommy99. Personally I didn't have many side effects. When I first started them I felt a bit "woowoo" and light headed so I had to make sure I was already at work but that was it, nothing else.
Hi Duke and well done on getting through the first round of chemo. If not liking the inhalator is your only side effect so far then that's fab!
Whathavewedone, I too am a Mum to a 3 year old so I know what it's like to carry the guilt around that your kids are near smoke and yes, I'm sure there are thousands of "secret" smoking Mums out there. Taking out the rubbish must be a universal excuse as it's the one we use when DH (now alone) goes out for a ciggie in the garden. So in response to your question, yes, I have stopped and DH is still smoking. I have done it through champix but it might be a good idea to go and speak to your practice nurse at the Docs. Mine were really supportive and I had to take DS with me so they knew I had a small child. I am not pushing DH into it, he has to find the strength to want to do it himself but I think now he has seen the success I am having and is considering it himself.
Keep going Maccababe, you are doing great and 21 days (now) is a brilliant achievement.
Good lcuk Tisme and Differentcorner (I am a rebound thread poster on here too! lol)
