I AM STOPPING TOMORROW! I've tried many times to stop siince December when i attended an Alan Carr clinic. I completley agree with everything they say except "It's easy to stop." I hate everything about smoking and feel that I need to stop to become the person I want to be. I'm 29 and I've been smoking for 17 years.

    God help me please!
    My Personal challenges for 2012:
    Have disposable income
    Pay off about £17k debts
    - Stop smoking!!!
Leave my past behind and become a new me

Congratulations - AGAIN Graeme!!! You've don'e marvellously, another great success story coming along nicely here!

Very well done Tom! That 'orrible taste in th drag was obviously necessary to prove to you that you didn't want to have any more I guess - but - I wouldn't advise anyone else to try it as it may be totally different for others, you too Tom after the champix drug's left your system. Keep up the great work Tom your're doing SO well!!!

Hi BlueIsTheColour, it's only your brain that's nagging away at you, you know that don't you?! Go back to doing all the tips, such as the water, orange juices, ice pops, sour sweets and tearing up and down the stairs. Try anything that will distract you and allow you to go on through this stage, which is all that it is. Whatever you do DON'T give inand if you need to then please PM me. You're being tested, but you'll get there BITC, you know you will, you've come to far NOT to.

Wonderful news maccabe!!! :TNot so good about the row, though it didprove you CAN do it without the evils!!! Keep up that strength! Re the tiredness, are you sure itwasn't there before, but you didn't notice it due to lighting up every so often? That's the way it was with me.

You're so welcome Vi, though I've had computer problems and unable to access MSE! Fine with any other web sites, but the one I NEED to get on to.....! Maddening! Am using DH's at present, but want mine ok again! Youre nearly on about the 8 week mark surely, right? You've done so well Vi, I hope you're feeling so very, very proud, keep it up!!! I'll be here supporting folk whenever I can - I can't stop!!! My sister-in-law passed away last week, that's why I want people to get off this horrible drug and all the harm it does!

Exellent news LizzyDripping!!! :Tyou've given yourself so much more than the cash benefits! It's good to hear success stories as it encourages all those who can really do with it. Thank you!

Hi Purpledaisy and great for you being free fromthe weed since last Sunday. Hopefully others will help you re the affects from champix, though what affects one doesn't always affect others! The very best of luck in quitting for life - YOURS!!!!

Excellent news DUKE!!!! :T:TOh I do hope you can free yourself of the inhilator and be nicotine free!!! All the very best with ther other chemo sessions.

Go on Different_Corner, you KNOW you CAN do it!!! Keep up a steely determination and keep reminding yourself of all the things you NEED to give up for. Keep talking to us, whilst you're typing you're focused. All the very best for THIS TIME!!!

Hi whathavewedone. Don't kid yourself about the willpower I thought I had none for ages, now 10 years later - I must have done! Don't worry so much about your OH, he'll possibly follow your lead in time after you've quit - and yes, several others on here have OH's who still smoke, but they're doing wonderfully. Change your lifestyle and that will help, alter things in the morning when you have the 2, any alteration will have great consequesnces, same with the wine in the evening, change it for pure Orange Juice as the Vit C is great for helping with cravings. Look into the eyes of your little ones and tell yourself that you have them to live for, it's their lives as much as yours that you need to kick it for and you knowit very well, that much shines out from all you've written! No need to apologise for the long post, the info helps a lot. You have chance to get your health back and to live a long life - IF you quit now! As I've said above to someone - The very best of luck in quitting for life - YOURS!!!!

All the verybest to you too TismE! You sound so excited about quitting which is a great start!!! Don't worry about having to reschedule as it may just be meant to be! Keep talking to us and getting support!

You also can do it Mama! I'll send all of you PMs to help you later on, but must get to bed right now!!

Go on Stroppy, join your OH and be guided along by him. Join Mama too, it really does help to do itwith others and chat together as you go through it. You're all starting on a fantastic journey!!!

Congratulations hippy-chic!!! You really are doing brilliantly!!! The cravings are only your head messing with you as the nicotine's long gone from your system. Use the water to fill yourself up and go up and down the stairs to burn the carving off, it'll work!!!

Will send out PMs tomorrow folks, have had a big problem with accessing MSE,but now using DH's computer so will see you later. Keep strong!!!!! :j

  • So glad I found this thread! I really appreciate the support.

As I suspected, it was yesterday evening that I found difficult. Neither of us cracked but we did go to bed very early! I couldn't keep my eyes open past 8.45pm and slept right through until 6.30am. I feel great today.

Usually when I wake up I feel congested and have a cough - this morning I felt much clearer even though I've still got the remnants of a heavy cold.

I read yesterday that when you smoke abnormal cells form on your lungs which may or may not become cancerous over time - depending on luck really. When you quit these cells are replaced with healthy tissue and after ten years of not smoking all of the cells have been replaced making your risk of lung cancer negligible. Just one cigarette will cause abnormal cells to form again, putting you back to square one. I found this hugely motivating as it means that I cant kid myself it's okay to smoke 5 a day in the evenings or just a few at the weekends etc etc. When I was pregnant I knew that I couldn't just have one and it made it so much easier to quit. It was really silly to start again afterwards as I didn't really want to, I just enjoyed having my body back to myself IFYSWIM and it felt like a sort of celebration albeit a very stupid one.

Nicotine inhaler seems quite effective and definitley helps having something to hold/put in mouth.....I think this could be my new best friend!
Strange woke up at 5 0 clock this morning wanting a cigarette....never usually do that, must have been in anticipation of giving up today!
Feel a bit shaky and unsure about things my brain keeps screaming at me why are you doing this?!Its like its trying to talk me out of it!

Once you have broken the nicotine addiction (3 days), its the habits that go with smoking that try to tempt you back I think. For me personally, I am still falling asleep like a 'log' but waking up very early. It will get better, and need to accept that this is part of the process...

(Hope this is OK, feel free to remove if not).

    Hello!

I quit as of today, so it's early stages, but feel surprisingly good on it, so whoopee!

Anyway, I was prescribed nicotine gum by my GP, and it was only after I got it home I realised she had prescribed 4mg, for people who smoke 20-30 a day! I used to smoke 8, and just the thought of it made me feel woozy so went and got some weaker ones.

Anyway, to cut a rambly story short, I have a 96pc box of 4mg Fruit Nicotinell that I'm not going to need/want.

If anyone on here would like them, I'm happy to send them, just PM me as I don't always remember where I've been!

Hi everyone! Still having problems with my computer, thought the Techie folk had done it for me as I got straight on here earlier - then it all fell apart again! Ah well, on we go again and on hubby's PC now.

A good start for your and your OH, WHWD! You've started the very best journey ever for you both and your kiddies, keep going until you reach that fantastic destination. You'll know when you arrive as the happiness you'll feel will be amazing!!! :j

You're about right with what you've read, bear that in mind and don't ever risk it again as you don't ever want to have to go through it all again now do you! ;) There's no reason why you can't quit and keep off the weight at the same time. Read the PM and you'll see what I mean with the exercise and tips that will help keep away from too much sweet food. You say you've still got the remnants of a heavy cold, a perfect time to begin quitting, though don't be too surprised if you get another or a cough now you've quit. It's quite common, though not for all, but if you do get one it'll help in not wanting to smoke anyway - and it'll help in getting rid of all the muck and rubbish within! Don't blame yourself too much about past mistakes, look ahead instead to a very healthy life with those little darlings of yours. :A

Hi again skr80! How far ahead are you now? It must be a fair time surely.

I suspect that waking up at 5 stroppy was all part of your subconscious knowing you were about to quit the awful habit. Don't let it worry you, just push on. Try not to rely too heavily on the inhaler as you're still putting nicotine into your system, but at least it'll start you off. Also drink plenty of water as well as pure Orange Juice and have plenty of fruit. Anything that fills you up helps so very much.

All the very best with quitting porlock, I hope you succeed in achieving the greatest goal you ever could go for! If you need to talk we're here to support and help wherever we can.

Keep strong everyone, especially you BlueIsTheColour, you'll make it andf soon get passed this unusual stage, look ahead and feel so proud about how far you've already gone with your quest!! :T Thinking of you ALL.
