What helped me alone was putting the money I would have spent on cigarettes in to a jar then once I reached 3 months I treated myself to a nice present.

its important to "reward " yourself though like many others i wondered how on earth i could afford to smoke , and if you are able to see the pounds mounting up its a further incenative to STAY STOPPED . i have the silkquit meter which having entered the amount and cost of smoking it calculates by time how long you have been stopped and how much you would of spent on the dreaded weed

    it may help someone

have a GREAT day everyone those coming up to day 3 ...you'll be begining to smell the awful smell cigarettes have left behind especially if you smoked in the car like i did ...boy what a pong ..

heres the link if anyone wants a look http://www.silkquit.org/stop-smoking/quit-meter

We are also saving the money, but aiming to pay off some debts first, with it, and then hopefully save for a holiday :D

    Hi JD

Chickens..You have chickens?? I love chickens.

I'm on day 3 and today my 'keep busy' job is to clean out my car and open all the windows at home to let in the fresh air.

I still have a shovel, blankets..in my car from the snow and empty cigarette boxes in the 'door bin'..oh the shame.. I'm just going to live in pjs as from now (even to work) so I don't have an ironing pile (wonder if DS will do the same?) I always had a ciggie before doing the ironing and mid-way..not looking forward to facing that task. Am a little concerned about getting ready for going back to work (Wednesday) as I always DID have at least 2/3 before getting to work 1 before washing, 1 after with a cuppa and 1 before leaving or on the way to work. I also come home at lunchtime so that will be a challenge in itself. But I am looking forward to NOT spraying myself with perfume (you can still smell stale smoke with perfume) and eating mints to disguise the smell.
There's so much I am looking forward to:
not having to go overdrawn for cigarettes and paying bank charges for doing so..
having my wages and not giving extra to the government (is that spelt right?) they already take plenty..
not coming down the stairs at home and smelling that horrible ciggie smell coming from the kitchen..
being fatter, putting on weight (if you knew me you would understand)
    being debt free
to have a little bit of 'spare' money and say 'yep, we can get/have that'
to be able to buy DS something (I don't really want anything I'm happy with my DS, my dog, my job and appreciating what nature brings us i.e. watching the little birds eating my bird cake that I make them..)

    DD

Thank you so much for those links, I really like the one titled 'Just one puff' could they be put on here as I found them really useful and wondered if someone else might?

Hope everyone is coping well with their quitting and a BIG thank you to all those who have quit and are giving up their time to help us with our journey to a better life. :T xx

Hello all! Well here's day 3 and back to work tomorrow. I'm thinking it will be easier when I get back as my colleagues all know I'm packing up and there are only 2 or 3 smokers at work anyway. Then again if it's stressful I am very weak!!! However I do remember that I definitely get less stressed when I have stopped smoking for a while so fingers crossed. I've also got my exercise class tomorrow night and it will be nice to feel less breathless (although it could be a while!!). I've got an app which shows cigs not smoked and cash saved like you JD. It's a great idea and quite motivating!
I've also cleaned out my car today Azkaban and it was full of empty fag packets (although I never actually smoked in it cos its a company car and I was too scared!!) and extra strong mints!!!
Good for you going out running determined. I love running too although I have been very idle since my last smoking relapse!!
Penelopedee-I hate ironing so I feel your pain! Maybe you could do something nice afterwards to reward yourself for not smoking (unless you are one of those people who gets pleasure from such things!!!).
Many thanks to Sue and Ross for their lovely supportive posts.
God we are a busy bunch aren't we? I've done more house cleaning, drawer emptying and davina exercise dvd's in the last 3 days than in the last 3 months!!!!

Oh yes Forgot to say I have been reading Paul Mckenna and doing some of the visualisation on negative associations with smoking. Having to imagine drinking the contents of a spitoon makes me gag even when I'm not thinking about having a cig!!!!! It's stomach churning but effective!!!
