for me I've gone cold turkey and it is both very easy & also difficult if that makes sense. I have had no urge to actually smoke, although have had a weird restless, empty/needy feeling, but day 2 has been better than day 1 - have been able to have thoughts (albeit limited :o) that haven't been about smoking today :D.

Best thing has been to keep busy and when I've had cravings remember they pass, that's one less I have to deal with & sip some water.

    Good luck x

I just saw you post this..................Look at my post from 13.08.2010 below

Not with desperately wanting an actual cigarette - I kind of have an 'emptyness' in me (can't really describe it)
Have been eating (and drinking herbal tea/water) like mad............not like me at all. Just can't seem to fill that void.

Sorry.........just needed to get that off my chest - it does help to post on here (thread seems a bit quiet tho'!)

A better day, jinty?? It sounds as though it could be. Good work with the gum, though if your tongue's getting sore try a few sweets today for a change. Keep day-dreaming about paying off that money and the pleasure you'll have on the holidays you're looking forward to taking when you can afford it. The mind's an amazing tool, jinty, use it - especially now - and - be so very proud all what you've achieved so far, you deserve it! :D

A much better day thankyou ! Yesterday was a struggle, but, we got through it, and although it is still very early days, I do know my own character, and with the more time that passes since my last cig, the better chance of my stubbornness not to undo the good work will kick in.

I do feel positive that I will get there this time - a feeling that has been lacking, in previous attempts I think my mind had me beaten before I even started.

Thanks again to all who are posting, and PM ing with support. I hope at some point in the future to offer the same to others. I am currently cocooned in " all about me" at the moment, but that is how I need to be, to conquer this.

    Best Regards

This afternoon I put the kettle on to make a cuppa then turned round and thought 'Hello, where's my ciggie?' The thought lasted a second if that. How strange that I have not really had any cravings, but my mind thought I had a cigarette on the side. I've replaced my 'cravings' with happiness and feeling proud, if that makes sense. I'm always a happy person (with the odd worry) with a good sense of humour so that helps.

Sue~~I will definitely try to start eating breakfast, even if it's just a few spoonfuls and I'm going to start the day with water or orange juice instead of tea/coffee.
I'm just going to go on a longer dog walk.

Hello! Can I join you? Well done everyone, I've enjoyed reading your posts.

I had my last cigarette at 11.30pm on 1 Jan and I haven't had one since, so it's nearly 2 days now. I gave up once before for about a year then fell into that 'just one' trap...

I want to be healthier, stop stinking, and of course save money.

I'm finding it quite hard at the moment, but just got to stick with it. I've dug out some gum from last time but it's not the same, is it. I think cold turkey works best for me. Now I've just got to think about what I'm going to do instead of a fagbreak at work - I run a business and it's my excuse to disappear for five minutes peace and quiet when it all gets too stressful, will have to go and hide in the loo or something instead!

    Hi All,

I cant ebeleive how many posts ive just had to read through to get to the end lol, one day at work and the thread goes wild.

To all of you that quit smoking on jan 1st, well done, your 3rd day is coming to an end :j, the nicotine is so very nearly out of your system, well done to you all, the hardest part is over, now its time to break the psychological habit, just remember to say no!!

I read a couple of people cleaned their cars out, i done exactly the same, the day after i gave up, i removed over 50 yes 50 empty ciggie boxes , and god knows how many dog ends from unde the seats (how do they always get there?)

for those of you who gave up on the 2nd, well done on 2 days smoke free :T just one more day to go till the nicotine is all but gone from your system.

I hope we are all well?

Ive had an awful day at work, for those of you who don't know what I do I am a psychiatric nurse, and we have had a bad day on the ward, patients fighting, smoking in the ward, ive even had a couple of doors kicked off their hinges today, today would have been one of them days where i would have run out for a ciggy at every opportunity, so am now seeing why the non smoker staff used to get annoyed with the smokers lol, as bad as the ward has been today, it makes my job worth while as ive been able to speak to patients in a manner they can relate to, i love it, makes my day exciting :)

Hi Heretolearn, welcome aboard..... ah yes that old just one more trap, its a nightmare isnt it.

But at least you are attempting again, well done on 2 days smoke free, i would advise you to have a read through the previous posts, as you can pick up some good hints and tips, and would also advise, if you have any dark moment during your quit, or just want to vent, come here and do it, as there is always someone around.

why not during your break do a crossword, or read a chapter of a book?

    Best of luck

ok, have decided to quit smoking! eeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

main reasons are, its time consuming, whilst smoking i don't do anything else only drink tea or coffee!

    also the cost, scary!

    and my health!

only 1 cig in the house, so when thats gone its gone!

any advice would be appreciated! last time i gave up woz when i woz pregnant with my first child, started again last year! so i know i can do it!

good on ya to all who've done it too!

Welcome smellyoldsock (love it lol), and very well done on beginning a quit, have you smoked that final one?

I agree smoking is a very time consuming thing to do, you do nothing else whilst having that fag, what a waste of time!

You will notice that once you quit you will have money when you didnt have it before ... its a nice feeling

My bit of advice would be to have a trawl through the old posts, there are lots of hints and tips and websites of the same.

I wish you the best of luck
