oh Azkaban, I do love your chicken blessings, brightens up my day no end :rotfl:
(((( Ross ))) Doesn't sound a great day but you're doing great things for your patients and I bet a lot will remember you in years to come when they're getting on better with their mental health. Any time you need to rant, just do so too :)

To all who've got through the first few days, that's the hardest bit and it just gets easier from here. As Ross put, everyone is here to support you. Anyone is welcome to PM me anytime, I well remember how tough it can be. Be proud. You're doing an amazing thing :):)

Hi Nym, I hope so, I have been doing the job 10 years now (started as soon as i was legally allowed (17)) and when we re admit some patients they remember the nice ones (ME lol), so I hope and think i am doing something right

Your right the hardest part is the first few days, and I just saw in your signature that you gave up on my birthday ... small world lol

    Hi all

Well, day 2, had a really bad night and kept getting up for tea/ water then up again for the loo!!! Feel very cold today and have a headache, so hoping that i've not got the lurgy :o May be the patch :(

Thought a few times about the 'gremlin' but got up and did some cleaning, stripped and made the bed, bunged a load in the wm then went for a walk to town and got the ice pops in 99p shop, so they are freezing as i type!

Also changed my patches from nicot..ell to n.quitin as these were the ones i had last time. The former were given me by a new practice nurse however, i suspect they may not suit me.....so went back to the ones i know i'm ok with.

    Caz

Hi Grandmasam, when i first quit i got the 'cold' feeling, but according to my practice nurse it was my body trying to make me have a ciggy and at the same time getting rid of all the bad stuff .... so fingers crossed its your body doing good

I found the patches did strange things to me too. Mind, they kept the nicotine monster away most of the time so that helped!

Plenty of Vitamin C, and I found lollipops helped me. No idea why, I wonder if it's a return to childhood or something? They're great to wander around with as folks do give you funny looks...

<~~ Sending hugs to ward off the possible cold :)

Nym ..... im gonna haveto pop out and get some lollipops tomorrow just to see the funny looks lol

Oh Hattie, you know exactly what i am on about then, especially when i say it was a god awful day, but it is what keeps me in the job lol

I have recently toyed with the idea of going out into the big wide world of community, but at the same time I have a band 7 interview next week, not sure though which job i want now, hopefully you will not have too many messages waiting for you at work :D

  • Ross, very small world, oddly that would've been my da's birthday too, he always complained that as a good Irishman he had to have been born on an English patron saint's birthday - seeing as my son asked me to stop it felt fitting to do it on my da's birthday.

As to the lollipops, I *think* if you chew on them in a, 'You talkin to me?' kinda expression it creates the most confusion. Specially when you talk round them. Amazing fun. Actually I may go get some tomorrow... no I can't as it's a no spend day. However, my housemate is a Burlesque dancer and I'm sure she's got some from a routine she did a while ago... anyone else fancy being a kid for the day?

Also in seriousness, I used to work with kids who had mental health problems, yes they will remember the kind ones, and I bet you've changed people's lives.

On the other note, to all going back to work tomorrow - don't worry about it, and seriously, if you're worried about not having your regular 'smoke' break - I quit as you can see in April. I still go for a doorstep. I just go with a cup of coffee. If I need to get out of the office I tell the staff I'm going for a doorstep - and off I toddle. And yes it's doable from day one. You're not giving up anything here! You're not dieting, you're not staying away from something nice. Smoking is vile. It's pointless, it stinks and it tastes terrible. If you found getting a wee break destresses you, do it without the cancer stick. Or, just switch your computer off for five minutes and tell your boss/colleagues it's therapy. They'll let you... and have the break anyway ;) And best of luck with tomorrow folks

  • Wow I thought I would try to check in a bit more regularly but I didnt think after being away for a few days there would be 5 pages to read! I must check in every day now!

Ha ha Ross, nope im still going good lol! Thats funny that nym quit on your birthday, because you quit on my birthday - 13thnov lol!

Hello to all the newbies, you are all doing really well. Stick it out, the first few days are the worst but soon you will realise you have went a few hrs without even thinking about smoking, then a day etc and before you know it youll hardly even think about it. When I quit before and i started to think about smoking I used to think,"oh i wsh i could have a cig" but now I think to myself "im so glad i dont have to do that anymore".

Caz - I didnt sleep very well when I wore the patches. I had the 24hr ones, is that what you have? After a few days of very little sleep i started to take them off at night and put a new one on in the morning which helped a lot. But I didnt really sleep properly until I came off the patches. Lack of sleep was the main reason I stopped taking them after 2weeks. I had the nicotelle ones, maybe the ones you have mightnt be as bad xx

ha ha smellyoldsock, I was the same, i got nothing done all day cos i used to say right il have a cuppa and a cig then do the dishes. then after id say oh il just have one more cig and so on, most of the day was spent smoking and drinking tea! my house is much cleaner now iv stopped smoking :)

well thats another day smoke free everyone, well done :T:T:T
