    Hi KingLarsson,

Welcome from myself to the thread, this thread has been a great souce of help not only to myself but to everyone on here, its great when people who have quit can give their experience to those going through the process.
hello everyone, would like to join and contribute to this thread please...

i smoked for 32 years and quit on 26/09/10 at around 6pm;)

i was hypnotised and although the first three days were the worst, i have stuck by it and am heading for 12 weeks on sunday.

i smoked rolling tobacco so reckon i am saving about £15 per week in total.

look forward to "meeting" you all.

Well done on quitting after 32 years  and congratulations on making it to the 12 week mark, i bet you are so pleased and so proud of yourself, i certainly would be estatic lol :rotfl:

    Hi KingLarsson (bows) :)

Welcome to the thread and well done on your success. I was a rolling tobacco smoker too. I can't say I have saved money like you have but to be free of the addiction is a reward in itself.

Hope you stick with us and can offer your support to others - it is what has helped us all quit and stay quit and we are just one big happy family.

A very warm welcome to the thread, KingLarsson! Congratulations on having been an ex-smoker for almost 12 weeks! That is a huge accomplishment, something to be extremely proud of. :)

    I changed to rollies in 1976 in an effort to quit as I detested Dad-in-laws rollies. Needless to say - it didn't work, but hooked me even more so! When I finally did give it up almost 12 years ago, I saved about £3 - £4 a week, but then mine were only very slim ones;

A because I was ashamed of them, believing only men used them

    and

B because it was 'less' of a risk to my health. Not sure whether to laugh at that approach or whether it's true. :undecided

Still, the price has risen dramatically since then which accounts for my lesser saving too.

How are you managing now? Also, would you like to contribute to help yourself by getting support or would you like to help us by helping others? Either way it would be wonderful to have your help and by doing so it helps others as well as the individual.

Welcome either way, and never succomb to the "just one puff/cigarrette" thoughts as you'd hate yourself. Good to have you!

  • Thankyou everybody,

rollies - i reckon i smoked a big pouch £12 every week plus used tips and a couple of packets of papers thats how i got to £15.

happy to contribute both ways sue.

i think this next couple of weeks are going to be worse, lots of socialising and dramming - bad combination ! i am lucky as most of my friends dont smoke. i also think its a big bonus that folk cant smoke inside anymore.

    cheers  everyone.....

  • Hi
This is now my second ever post on MSE so am a little nervous.
Can I join your board please?
I've smoked on and off for 16 years. I gave up when I was pregnant with each of my children (didn't smoke for about 2 years with each). The last time I went back to smoking was early this Summer and have been trying to give up since late Summer. I gave up for 3 weeks a few weeks ago after getting the flu but have been back smoking for the past couple of weeks. I seem to be able to give up for a little while and then go back to it. Which is why something like this forum will hopefully help to keep me on the straight and narrow. Believe it or not a lot of the reason for my debt is from smoking...I just can't afford to do it!!
    Thank you

    well done !!!:T:T:T

keep it going, did you see an earlier post, someone does a bank transfer every day they are smoke free and clears a small part of their debt - i think this is an excellent idea.

  • Well done to you too!! I have so much respect for people giving up after smoking for a long time. I'm finding it tough and I've technically only been smoking again for a few months (after a long break etc)!!
I did see the post about the daily bank transfers and I really love the idea. The feeling of chipping away at it must be great.

    Hi Scarey78,

First off welcome to the board, second well done on your most recent quit, and getting through your first day smoke free.:T

I can honestly say this forum is a complete godsend and will help you through your quit, i am just over a month into my quit and this board has helped, as you can come here and sound off, get advice and reassurance from people who are going through the same thing as you are :)
    well done !!!:T:T:T

KingLarsson, i completely agree and think that this is a fabulous idea, and once i have filled up my non openable unless you have a tin opener money jar :rotfl:may give this idea a go.

Well today I have had to do a boring infection control course at work, and found that sitting through an hour of lunch was sooooo boring, so decided to do what i used to do and went and joined the smokers outside, i am happy to report i was happy getting the latest gossip and did not smoke, did not want to as it DID NOT cross my mind at all :j:j

I hope everyone is ok and prepared for the apparently upcoming snow? deepest of deep joy.

I apologice for my rambling and poor grammar tonight but i cant be bothered to go check it lol

A very warm welcome to the thread, scarey78. You must really wish to quit or you wouldn't keep on and on trying! ;) What method are you using, patches or simply cold turkey? Have you tried any NRT help before, such as patches, Champix, gum etc? If you can answer it helps us know a little more about you and the attempts you've had so far and, if possible, what goes wrong to make you turn back to smoking again?

I've sent you a PM, have a look through that and try some of the things suggested, they really do help. Keep coming on to the thread and pour out your feelings - whether they're good or bad as either way it helps you to get things off your chest - or to shout to the world about your success! If you have kiddies and really can't afford to keep smoking, then why not try this time with a real determination to QUIT for good! It CAN be done, you know that, so let's get you to where you want to be, a healthy non-smoking Mum who wishes to remain that way for her kiddies! Talk to us, scarey78...we'll listen, help and support you all we can! :)

Thanks for the answers, KingLarsson. :) You will need to be careful, as you note, until the New Year is over, beware of the alcohol which can throw so many people straight away! You're right about people not being allowed to smoke inside anymore, it's a huge bonus; so when you see people going outside you can feel pity for them at being addicted and freezing while they're fagging!!! :D

Let us know if you have any weak moments, it really helps to do so. Meanwhile, all best wishes in going all the way through it this time - and saving a fortune as well as your health! :)

Hi Ross and well done with all the time you've come through - so far! You're doing marvellously! :T Of course, we both share a love of the snow, it'll be interesting to see how much you get over there - and me over here....barely any here I'll bet!!! You see? I'm preparing myself. :( I'd best be off before I get depression! :rotfl:

Keep up the amazing work everyone, you're all doing brilliantly and deserve to feel the pride that has to be within you. Stay strong...get healthy!
