I have just found this on the internet........................

    The Smoker’s Vow

To be said just before taking your first puff after
having quit for any appreciable period of time

    <B>
With this puff I enslave myself
    to a lifetime of addiction.
While I can’t promise to always love you,
I do promise to obey every craving and
    support my addiction to you
no matter how expensive you become.

I will let no husband or wife,
    no family member or friend,
no doctor or any other health professional,
    no employer or government policy,
    no burns or no stench,
    no cough or raspy voice,
    no cancer or emphysema,
    no heart attack or stroke,
no threat of loss of life or limbs,
    come between us.

    I will smoke you forever
    from this day forth,
    for better or worse,
    whether richer or poorer,
    in sickness and in health,
    till death do us part!

“You may now light the cigarette.”

    “I now pronounce you a full-fledged smoker.”

Postscript: While 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce, the addiction to smoking will last a lifetime—albeit a shorter lifetime. Once a smoker, annulment of the addiction is impossible. One puff can result in a permanent relapse. Don’t take the chance of relapsing to this marriage of inconvenience.
    NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

Larmy I hope it stays this way, I am not going to say I am a reformed smoker/non smoker/ex smoker just yet as I personally do not feel it is long enough, maybe in a few weeks :rotfl:seriously though on all my other quits it was so difficult and so hard to get through a day, this time just seems so easy.

Ross Very well done to you :T
I too come on here and trawl the thread...............I went right back to Jo starting it and read quite a lot of posts from then.
I came across a link to a site called http://whyquit.com/ ...........the 'smoking vow' came from there.
It's got lots of different links to click on - very interesting!

This one's very enlightning about the addiction/food side of smoking.

  • Not been on this thread before but just wanted to share as the sig says 5 failed attempts and finally got there! The 5 attempts were within a year, each time managing up to several weeks and then giving up.

Things I found helpful in the end were the fruit flavoured nicorette (not quite as foul) still has nasty after taste though and the inhalator for at home.

I have quit before when I found out I was pregnant I quit until my dd was 6 months old then fell back to the old ways.

What really did it this time???? Taking up cycling

There's no way I could do the 6 mile commute each way and still be smoking my 20-30 a day lol

I will always be a smoker at heart, I love smoking BUT I can breathe for the first time in years. I am actually starting to feel that I can inflate my lungs with a good deep breath now 6 months on, I don't smell like an ashtray, my skin's looking great. Oh yeah and it's very MSE :D

Keep going no matter how many slips or wobbles and hopefully everyone can find their 'bike'

Again I completely agree, when I smoked I would always find money for fags, and would worry about having enough cash to see me with ciggies until payday, but now im not spending an obscene amount everyday I find I can go out shopping and not have to worry if i have enough money to allow me to smoke the rest of the month lol

Hi there everyone and congratulations on the huge successes so far, the frames of mind too! :T:T:T:T:T

An amazing piece you found with that Vow, DD! You do your utmost to get everyone to stay finished with fags for good, thanks so very much!

Ross, you're extremely wise on not viewing yourself as any particular status too soon - though when you get to a year - you'll be sure to be an ex-smoker at the least!!! ;)Congratulations on 4 WEEKS free!!! :T:T:T

Great news, slishsplash and many congratulations on how far you've already!! :T:T:T If coffee (or the lack of it) is really playing on your mind and you feel strong in willpower, then why not give the decaffeinated a try. See how you go - BUT - be aware from the first sip ....any thoughts of bad ideas - chuck the coffee, drink some water, clean your teeth and ........eat an apple while going for a walk!!! Then read DDs "Vow" above and count your lucky stars for your determination and willpower! :j You've come so far on your journey and while you don't want to deprive yourself of too much, always test the water with things and have an escape route planned for an "IF" event. Just never, ever, ever let yourself go back to where you were as you'll really hate yourself from then on! Be careful, please. :)

Many congratulations, tinkertaylor05!!! :T:T:T Now I see why you're on the SPC 4 thread, so much money to save! :D Seriously, you've done marvelously and even got yourself as healthy as possible as quick as possible too, excellent news! If you save like you've quit you'll have loads by next year!. :j

Keep strong everyone and free yourself from this evil - you CAN do it and most of you are well on your way!

Yes I am trying to keep everyone motivated, but if I'm totally honest I have had 'the wobbles' for the last 3 weeks and I'm doing my utmost to keep myself on the straight and narrow!
