I have just been sent some photos that a friend of mine took from last year when we were at a beer festival in Germany, can you believe in one of the photos I have a cig in one hand and a inhaler in the other!!!

I was just thinking about all the excuses I have made in the past for having a asthma attack other than the truth:-

    1) The central heating is on, that always starts me off. MUST be that.

    2) I have been to so and so's house and they have a dog/cat MUST be the hairs.

    3) I have not dusted for a few day, MUST be that:cool:

    4) I have been around a person wearing too much perfume. MUST be that:cool:

    5) Kids have been using too much deodorant.MUST be that:cool:

6)Been to the bus station all those fumes from the diesel engines. MUST be that

    8) Been frying without using the overhead fan. MUST be that.

    9) Very high humidity today. MUST be that

    10) I forgot to open the window and there is no air in here. MUST be that.

I have used ALL these excuses and as many more as I could think of, with a CIG IN MY HAND:mad:

You are not the only one Sanfran. I had a neighbour with asthma and she told me her doctor had said it was good for her to smoke as it helped the condition!

Sorry i havent given an update but my attempt FAILED TERRIBLY :( I lasted 3 days of the fags and cracked.

I wont make excuses I just didnt have the will power and caved without a second thought.

It isnt the end of my journey though, My new quit date is tommorrow as I am collecting my new car :j and I will not tarnish its cleanliness with dirty cigarette smoke.

Plus if I continue to smoke I cant afford to put petrol in the car. Well I can, but i'd be able to do more and go further with the kids if I dont smoke.

I have a little less stress over the next 3 weeks as DS1 has gone on holiday with his dad.

I really enjoyed not smoking it was easy until about 10pm at night, thats when it really hit me. But on a positive side, my failed attempt has given me an insight into how my bosy will react and i am more prepared as to when my cravings will kick in. So i will be more prepared.

Im making a lot of changes in my life at the minute, good changes, to make a better future for us all.

I have a pretty emotional date coming up in 6 1/2 weeks, my sons 9 year anniversary and every year it still hits me as hard as the previous year, but this year, i have just found out that i have my college orientation day that day, so my mind should be occupied.

Better go and update my signature.

ATTEMPT NUMBER 2 HERE I COME!

I will continue to keep quitting, even if it takes me 100's of attempts, I will not less this beat me however long it takes, so every less fag is a gift given to my kids.

Princesswoo just keep trying. You know now how much you really want to stop. It is just the addiction fighting you. In the end you will gain the upper hand.

I just hope you don't take as many attempts as I did! Not saying how many......Soon it will click and you will want to give up fighting and that's just when you can succeed. Relax and let go of the need.

You may have lost a battle but you can still win the war!:j

Funny, but on my several attempts at giving up day three always got to me, I wonder if there is a medical reason for that?
Or is it that your body is getting scared.....if that makes sense.
The ice pops are really helping me at the moment, hard to think of putting anything in your mouth when your lips are frozen solid.
Silly thought, but could you not get in the shower when the craving are REALLY bad, can't smoke then even if you wanted to. I think I had 3 yesterday!

Sorry SanFran, but not sure I know what you mean there, could you enlighten us a bit please? Very well done with all you've got through so far, especially a house move! We moved just a couple of months after I quit, but as like you, I got through it and that was well over 11 years ago! :)

Princesswoo, don't worry too much about the fact that it hasn't gone to plan. You've realised that you CAN get through it, but the time wasn't quite right, BUT who knows what tomorrow or any other day might bring. Good luck with the better life PW!!

Sorry I've not been here much this week folks, but my DH has been poorly and was in hospital on Monday as he lost his vision! Turned out after so many tests that it was an aura before a migraine and blood vessels went into a spasm causing the 'fog' then double vision. I hope we don't get too many times like that, though far better than the suspected stroke that was first thought! Could have been soooo much worse for sure.

You're all doing well with quitting everyone, please keep it up and you'll be thrilled once you know you truly have succeeded. Have a great day tomorrow...smoke-free! :j

    Hi everyone :)

Well, it is 5 months today :j:j:j

    £835.67 saved :D

    2985 cigarettes not smoked :o

Sue-UU - you have had a rough time recently. Hope all is well now and bw to your DH - I used to get those bad migraines: blurred vision but never complete loss of sight. All disappeared when I was diagnosed with CD.

We were at A&E at 3.00am one night/morning last week - DH not me - and I was shocked to see the number of nursing staff and porters smoking outside. Big signs everywhere saying that all the hospital grounds were a non-smoking area and yet, there they were, chairs pulled outside, cups of tea or whatever and piles of fag ends everywhere. Mind you, I was so stressed that I was tempted but there was nowhere to buy any and I (a secret smoker) would never ask anyone for one!!:D

It is so good to see ceebeeby and Fee100 coming back to say that they are non-smokers - they were among the group who inspired me to take the first step. I read the posts on this thread night after night before stopping.

And Emilyka - so brave to go on holiday - not sure I could do it, even now.

Whathavewedone - you sound so happy and I can understand that. I feel much "lighter" - hard to explain - and someone told me last week that I look younger everytime she sees me; she does not know about the not smoking bit.

    Or the smoking bit.

Unless she smelt it on my clothes in the past. :o

    Anyway ..... :j:j:j:j .... what more can I say?

Except - hope everyone is enjoying a smoke free, sunny weekend.

It has rained all day, up here :(

Hi oldreekie and many congratulations on reaching 5 months with NO darn fags!!! You've done so well to get there, especially as your DH smokes, not easy like that but YOU made it!! :T:j:T
Thanks so much for the wishes, I've passed them on and he's grateful to you for your thoughts. Sorry OR, but what's CD? I typed it into google, but all it came up with was CD's as in music. I do hope your DH is ok now.

It is so true about the number of nurses and porters that smoke, doctors too - yet they have the nerve to criticise us! At least so many od us are taking steps to stop the filthy habit...them?? Whilst we're on the subject, how many large(ish) nurses do you see in hospitals?? Bally loads of em here!!! A good example some of our medical staff!!

Have a lovely Sunday OR, everyone else too, even if it's a soggy one, at least you don't have to worry about getting fags wet. Stay strong and focused on your new lives everyone, they're worth the world!

Many thanks, Sue for the congratulations :) I want to shout it from the roof tops!

Sorry, CD is Coeliac Disease - intolerance to gluten. Migraines are one of the symptoms of coeliac disease though few GPs seem to know that. But then my GP told me I was too tall to have CD  Lots of info if you google coeliac disease and migraines.

Yes!!! I have noticed that about the nursing staff and wondered if it was because they have had to stop smoking....well, some of them. Matron would not have allowed this!! Lots on this topic on google, as well.

Yes, thank you - DH is on the mend. A simple op as a day patient turned badly wrong and involved an hour's dash to the NHS24 doctor and then another hour to the only open A & E. In Matron's day he would have been kept in for at least one night after an op - guess there is lots on google about this too :rotfl:

Still raining and the delphiniums are flattened :(
