oooh, I dunno Thrifty, it sounds quite appealing to me and after all, as a result he might come quicker - for the next task I mean - of course!
A very warm welcome maggiesmummy, I know we ALL wish you the very best with success this time round, but PLEASE, please don't ever succumb to thinking one won't hurt again as there's far too much to lose as you well know! I do hope you OH will now follow your lead. I'm sure you're right about feeling a bit odd being due to the nicotine withdrawal, dry throat as well, though a little nerves may well be creeping in at the thought of quitting..excitement also perhaps. I go along with Thrifty's recommendation of the Ice Pops, a lot of people have really found them so useful.
So folks, with another day over it's even more time now passed by for so many of you. Amazing how fast each day does go by, so long as you do take it day by day, then the weeks so swiftly turn into weeks..etc, etc. You're all doing brilliantly and should be patting yourselves on the back for all you've done. It takes determination, but we all now know that it's so very possible to WIN the battle! You CAN do it folks, believe me!

old Hattie Jaques always springs to mind, now she'd never have allowed her staff having fags..or Nurses being obese! Bless her.
Hi choillie - it is always good to see you popping in. You are doing so well - much better that I amNo, I have not fallen off the wagon but it is a struggle with a smoker in the house .... well, he is going outside .... but I know what he is up to. What worries me is that I love the smell of cigarette smoke - hated it during the cold months. How is the house? Will you be in before the winter?
Thank you for the kind words Larmy. Do you dream about chocolate?
Well done Mz_grim, Thrifty Pixie , Daz and welcome to maggiesmummy and savetospend. You have come to the right place - how are you doing?I am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -
Oldreekie you are a wonder you know. I really think you are brilliant stopping when your OH is still smoking. You are a lot stronger than you think you and are not are giving yourself credit for.
I don't know if I could have done it if OH smoked.
All you can do is to remember that you've done this far & saved a load of money - I haven't been able to put the money aside as things have been so tight - although I have got it on the calculator thing & if one rotter who hasn't paid us for work done coughs up then I will bank that as my saved ciggie money.
The hosue build has ground to a standstill as we have run out of materials & as soon as money comes in we'll get some ordered up.
It has been a right roller coaster - but that's my life all of the time I suppose.
I think we may be able to get the structure wind & weather tight for the Winter we should be able to work on the interior then which will help progression. Fingers crossed.
I am still on the ordinary chewing gum & also mints - fisherman's friends seem to hit the spot sometimes.
I haven't stabbed anyone yet but I have had 'my moments' - only kidding but I am getting wound up but there again there is a lot to wind me up I suppose.
Keep it up Oldreekie & all out there - it is one of the best things, best gifts that you can give yourself - clean lungs.0 -
Hiya
please can I join you
I had my last ciggie at 11:55pm so today will be my first day as a none smoker.
I am determined that I will do it this time. Am going to do it cold turkey, have tried Champix a couple of months ago but they didnt agree with me at all. Patches make me feel so nauseousness esp if I can smell ciggie smoke, I hope this would put me off but I work with 3 puffers and the smell from them made me turn green at the gills:eek: and we do have to sit so close to one another Theres no way to avoid the smell.
I will save in a virtual pot each day and treat myself at the end of the week.
Just done the maths
£6.20 aday =£43.40 AWEEK:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Perhaps treat myself with half the money and save the other half
Bloomin heck
I remenber saying the I will give up if a pack of 20 goes up to 50p:o
Need to get a push on
Heres to my first day
Hope the day will be good to you all

Hello peedie, congratulations on becoming a non-smoker and welcome;you have come to the right place :j
You will find masses of sympathy and support. May I suggest that you start reading through the thread as it is sure to reinforce your determination. Some of us find that we need this support, constantly, at the beginning so never feel too needy.Keep it up Oldreekie & all out there - it is one of the best things, best gifts that you can give yourself - clean lungs.
Many thanks for your kind words choillie and for the update on the house - or soon-to-be house! I think you are "a wonder" considering the lack of support you had at the beginning, the winter you experienced and the stresses of house building. Any one of those would have been a good excuse to start again. I do believe that a project, no matter how big or how small, is the key to success and of course ..... Still going strong over here.
Mr Nicotine is now just lying helpless on the floor and I walk over occasionally and kick him out of boredom.
I believe he is very beat.
I don't want a cigarette, other smokers do not bother me, when I kiss my smoker GF it does not bother me.
If someone offered me a secret cigarette that had no effect on me or a secret pie, I would seriously choose the pie :rotfl:
As a note to others giver uperers, I knew that I was going to give up and started going to weightwatchers just before the Champix program began, just so that I did not put any weight on when I gave up. I am pleased to report that I have lost nearly a stone in that time so there is no need to feel that weight gain is an absolute given if you quit the weed.
Well done all the new quitters:T:T:T:T:T:T:T
Come and join the non drug addict party :beer::beer:S!!!!horpe0 -

Hello Daz - your posts always make me smile. My GP told me that Champix would make me depressed: it would appear to have be having the opposite effect on you. You scatter "happy dust" over this thread.
Could you scatter some of the weight loss "dust over us?
Mine is a glass of water, thanksI am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -

Thanks for the nice words, reekie.
But what chance have people got to quit if they are mourning the weed?
It is no good moping round going "woe is me, I want a fag but cannot have one, another of lifes pleasures taken away, woe is me"
Better to jump up and shout ":j:jwohooo I no longer stink, I am no longer aging prematurely, I am no longer clogging up my lungs with tar, I am no longer wasting money and getting fleeced by the government, I stand a much less chance of developing cancer and I am no longer a drug addict:j:j:j:j"

Hi and welcome to the healthy thread peedie, I really hope you'll realise your dream this time around.
What some savings you're going to make:eek:...treats galore for you, as well as great savings to be made. A lot to look ahead to! Back to working with smokers, that must be so horrible, I've quite for a good long while now, but can well remember fag smoke and stale tobacco are awful if you're not feeling too great. Course, you could always it there with an aerosol giving them both a little squirt now and then. If they've any sense they may well join you in stopping to. All the best P.
However, Matrons were allowed to be "well built" - a bit like battleships! When I had my first baby, we had to be on our beds when Matron "sailed" in 2x a day - "uncross those legs, ladies" she always bellowed.
Ah, we must be around the same age oldreekie, ours used to do precisely the same thing when I had my eldest. Our Matron wasn't big though....but by heck the staff Nurse was HUGE!!!!
Things aren't going so good for you at present choillie, but throughout it all you obviously remain totally steadfast in quitting, you've got so very much to be proud of, one very strong lady for certain! I hope that person soon pays up so you can move on. Very well done and you're so right with your final sentence!
Oh Daz, you really do say things in such funny ways, I could almost visualise you keeping old nicotine and treading all over him. Keep right on as you are and you'll one day totally succeed in doing so!Keep us laughing Daz.
It's a filthy night here and is blowing a gale. Whatever the weather with you tomorrow have a good one folks, and if it's a smoke-free one, another you can chalk up as a non-smoker, then it's bound to be! Life without fags is terrific!
