I am starting tomorrow. Got the inhalator today and I was thinking of trying the cutting down method. Anyone any suggestions.

I think cutting down, provided it is for a very brief amount of time can catapult you into your quit. On the other hand it can go on indefinitely and then you just keep putting off stopping.

It is of course entirely up to you how you best achieve your goal. Just when you look back in hindsight, it always seems that cutting down, ekeing them out etc. just seems to prolong the agony.

All the best to you whatever you decide.

Probably best to have a definite quit date so you know you do have to stop at some point. :)

Hi folks, I came on last week to say I was stopping too and I have to say, I have been logging on and reading posts every time I have felt myself weaken. Not had a ciggie in a week so quite pleased with myself. Tina12345, got my fingers crossed for you. These guys on here have been a Godsend for me. Good luck to you. WE CAN DO IT!!!:j

So Day Two has arrived bright and breezy!

We even went to the pub for a couple of drinks last night and managed to survive on puffs of our e-cigs. I thought we might as well get it over and done with, as we can't avoid smokers - or our trigger points - forever. We ended up surrounded by people wanting to know how the e-cigs worked and felt like a bit of a freak show!

I didn't use the e-cigs as much as my fiance, but today my chest feels tight - is this usual within your first 48 hour period? Is it possibly my lungs cleaning themselves out?

Anyway, I hope everyone else is still going strong. I'm looking forward to potentially telling my mum that I've stopped smoking when she comes to stay on Friday. She used to be a 60+ chain smoker many years ago, but has now been smoke-free for about 20 years. She is my inspiration and I know she'll be pleased if I finally manage it too.

Keep on keeping on guys! :)

I've lost track of what day I'm on now. Let me think.....Day Eight:T

I hardly have any cravings any more. My throat is sore when I wake up in the mornings, I'm not sure if that's connected or not.

Hi to everyone. My first post on this thread was post number 105 on 4th Jan 2009. My first day of quitting. I havent really been back to this site in the last year or so, but have returned. Just to let you know that I still havent had a cigarette since the 3rd of Jan last year. It was very hard at first, but I did it! So to everyone who is struggling, keep trying, it really is worth it, to be free! Best wishes! :-)

Just popped in to say good luck to all you new non smokers. I was on 30 a day for 40 years and I packed up nearly 4 years back. Cor, the things you can spend the money on is wonderful :) Hope you are all using the silkquit program to see how much you are saving and how many fags you havent smoked? That helped me a lot.

Plan what you will treat yourself with after a month of no fags - in my case that was £160 and went on a Radley bag back then. Since then Ive had cosmetic dentistry, I have standing orders to my favourite charities (very good move, if you start smoking again you are letting down not just yourself but the charities!) Ive had weekends away and afternoon tea at The Dorchester and Im toying with some non surgical cosmetic treatments now :) all courtesy of the fags I no longer waste money on. (Oh, and its so nice not to have smelly breath and smelly hair)

I like the look of that. I will definitely use it when I eventually get down to zero tabs a day
