The Giving Up Smoking Thread!! Part 2

I have just been through all the posts since I was last on here a month ago and I omitted oldreekie from my list of legends, sorry.
Last time I was on here I was about to go on holiday to Majorca.
The hardest bit was sat in the sun with a cool pint trying to relax without a cig.
The best part was getting off the plane and not rushing to find a place to smoke before getting in the taxi.

Hi Andrew,
How fabulous to hear from you. Second time I have been called a legend (the first was by my son) and it made me feel very happy so thank you.
I don't find nicotine really disgusting either after all this time. I will never be complacent, though I feel more free than during any of my previous quits. The psychological attachment has been more or less eradicated and for that I am so grateful.
If anything I feel much more empathy and sympathy for smokers as I know how they feel and the fear they feel about being without the crutch.
It really is a marvellous achievement to stop, whether you have to take it day by day for however long it takes, or if you are free after a few dodgy days or months. It is the staying stopped that counts after all. Well done Andrew.:)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

great to hear from you too waccoe i think often of those in the process of quitting after i made my lunge to freedom and wonder how you are all fairing ,
never stop wanting to stop Dc YOUR time will come i wish you well
thankyou for your possitive comments , i know how much this thread helped me and continues to do so , so if i can support someone else with the best discission they can ever make then all the better .
It truly is a life changing dicision you begin to realise once stopped how CONTROLING smoking is and how it encompases every aspect of our lives without us knowing it .
a few of the controls it had on my life which others may experience
what time i got up ...(it was because i needed nicotine )...no longer rushing outside in sometimes blizzard conditions for a smoke ... can lie in if i choose
what i did after meals , missing out on social interaction with my family as i was outside puffing away . now we chat and do the dishes etc together
it restricted financially what we did as a family as money went on smoking
we,ve been on many outings and overnight stays with money saved :T
so what are you all waiting for DO IT .....DO IT NOW it may be hard but it does get easier and its a win win win result
ps hope you are feeling fitter soon Su u x x0 -

I have 19 posts in this thread, each one declaring my hatred of nicotine and how I want to stop. Yet each time I succumb.
However, got to keep on keeping on.

Good to see you safely back home Andrew, still free from the monsters too! You're doing sooooo very well indeed and it's good to hear how positive you are, keep up that GREAT work!!! :T I know you think it'll be a long while before you stop thinking about cigs, but I promise you that you'll be surprisedf when you suddenly realise one day that you haven't given the darn things any thought at all. It'll come, honestly!
I was so chuffed to see how relevant you feel that the amount of time passed and means of stopping is on the title bar of each others posts, I'm sure you're right about it helping others as well as ourselves.Well done in putting oldreekie's name on the quitters hall of fame list, she too is such a great help! Many more of us..including you and we'll be getting a name for ourselves like Robin Hood and his bunch of..........! Just a thought, I have daft ones at times!
Well done Shel!!:T You're doing yourself so very proud. Keep right on. Toilet issues happen to so many of us, eat as much veg, fruit and fiber in general, also drink plenty of water and go for some long, brisk walks.
You and your fiance are doing just great Thrifty Pixie ! :T Coughing up is doing your fiance good, his lungs too, far better out than staying down there. You're both working on a great achievement and I wish you every success in getting there, what a marvellous way to begin married life - AND you'll have that great bond born out of sheer hard work and determination.:j
Well done manny, keep up the great work as it's all so very, very worth it, you'll find that out!! :T
Hi Dazco, were you here in early 2008? I seem to remember that name which was a young man who was here at the same time as ageing biker, am I right? If so, all the best in having another go. If not, all the very best anyway!
Hiya Caz!No need for the flag as so many of us have done the same BUT gone on to achieve it next time round. How long did you smoke for? Whatever it was that broke the fantastic chain you'd linked, always be aware of it and never let it come between you and your aim again. Fags don't deserve to mess with our lives so let them know it by telling them to keep a wide berth of you and your goa from here onl!!
All best wishes Caz, you deserve it.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone and go for a good walk, breathing in plenty of that beautiful fresh air. Give your lungs and your bodies a treat, as you're doing already in having stopped!Every hour is worth counting...it's success so always keep in mind how that feels and that YOU'VE done it, you made it through! So soon the hours turn into days, the days into weeks etc, but for now, take it each hour/day at a time and - BE SO VERY, VERY PROUD!! :j

Hi all!
Well, the fiance and I have managed two days and three nights so far of my folks staying over and we haven't run to the shop for tobacco yetI love them, but they are hard work sometimes!
I must admit that whilst I do get sudden sharp cravings, they pass pretty quickly and I was actually watching a friend in the beer garden smoking a tailor and thought 'actually it's a really FOUL habit...what was i thinking?' I will not rest on my laurels though, as every day has new challenges for the newly reformed smoker.
I hope everyone else is doing OK and those Smoking Pots are starting to bulge!

Hey Thrifty. Well done.
Keep that picture in your mind, the one of the person smoking and bring it out when you next get a craving. Remind yourself that in the not so distant future you will no longer be plagued by nicotine and it will barely register with you.
The only time I think about it now, is when I see some pour soul standing outside the shops. A friend of mine calls them "Fagfaces"!
She said she saw one woman sucking on a cig so desperately that her cheeks practically met in the centre. It is sad that we have all been under nicotines rule - yet so wonderful that we are kicking it to the kerb and getting free!
Keep it up. You will be coming on here soon saying you hardly think of it, like Oldreekie, Choille, St Clair and the rest of our posse!!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
