And so...Day One of our new life!
I smoked my last cigarette at about 11:30pm last night, and this morning I loaded up my bag with orange juice, gum and lozenges and cleared all the grotty ashtrays away. My fiance is quite scared at the prospect and has already emailed me to say he’s feeling ‘weird’ and isn’t sure if it’s the patch or the fact that he’s also using an e-cigarette at the same time. He says he feels over-anxious, like he’s had a handful of strong coffees, so I’ve suggested that he uses one or the other, as it sounds to me like he’s getting too much nicotine into his system. For a 20-a-day B&H smoker of 30 years he did bravely flush his remaining cigs down the loo this morning though, so I'm very proud of him thus far.
I’ve had a few cravings myself, and feel a tad taut, but otherwise seem to be doing OK. I'm reading Allen Carr’s book too, to help me with my mindset. Hopefully my fiance will pick his up too, and we’ll be able to put around £8 into our Smoking Pots at the end of the day.Mortgage-Free WannabeMortgage at start [20/6/12]: £151,800/MFD Jun 2035 (age 65)Mortgage now [5/11/14]: £139,212.14/MFD Oct 2029 (age 59)Personal Library 2014:starmod: Read in 2014: 57/60 :starmod: In Progress: 2 :starmod: Books In: 94 :starmod: Books Out: 12 :starmod: TBR: 847 :starmod:0 -
Way to go.
You're bound to feel taught having smoked for that length of time & then stopping - t'is natural & a withdrawal symptom. They will ease as time goes on.

dazco - dreams are vivid on the Champix. After I doubled the dose I couldn't sleep after a few days - so watch any unusual symptoms & tell your Doc/smoking cessation person.
I took the Champix fopr a fortnight & then stopped smoking as planned, but I had to stop the tablets after a few weeks coz of side effects yet I'm still smoke free since the 14th Feb - so you can do it too & it gets better & easier all the time.
All the best.
Day 5 now and I am on my second day of double dose. It no longer makes me feel spacey but the dreams are incredible. I am beginning to look forward to them
I have definitely cut down. About 30 a day from 50 :T
Two more days and the dose doubles again.
I don't know if anyone has said this, but well done whichever government it was that recognised smoking was a big problem and made all this help, support and aid available to us :TS!!!!horpe0 -
Hello again choillie, yes ! the teeth ! a lasting legacy. So many of mine are loose and, to prevent further "rot", I have weeks of peridontal deep cleaning to look forward to . Were I still smoking, I am not too sure that this procedure would be offered. So, another incentive not to start again.
I do wish that my GP had given me Champix as by now I would be nicotine free. I rely on the lozenges much to much and have been trying for the last month to find some support but the Stop Smoking councellors do not return my calls.
Have to say that I have not needed a councellor to make me realise that smoking helped me accept certain aspects of my life that I now find unacceptable!! Now, I have empathy for drug addicts and alcoholics - thank goodness I cannot drink alcohol! And too conservative (small "c") - to have ever tried the other option:)
dazco - how did South Africa look in your dream? Has it changed much since I was thereYou are doing sooooooooo well.
Thanks for the support :TS!!!!horpe0 -
Hi to everyone. My first post on this thread was post number 105 on 4th Jan 2009. My first day of quitting. I havent really been back to this site in the last year or so, but have returned. Just to let you know that I still havent had a cigarette since the 3rd of Jan last year. It was very hard at first, but I did it! So to everyone who is struggling, keep trying, it really is worth it, to be free! Best wishes! :-)0

Hey Dazco. Well done to you. I was wondering if you would get on ok over the weekend. Friday night was always my iffy time.
Wel done to you too Shel.
I can identify with both Choille and Old Reekie having just spent £4,000 on getting my teeth sorted. I suppose I was lucky to catch it in time and sometimes I do feel fed up as I was a light smoker most of the time during my smoking career. That's when I was not in one of my quits!
Still it's done now and just have to make the best of it. Blooming expensive though seeing the peridontist. Mine is about £140 a visit!!!!!!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
