hey everybody!!
wow, loads of new joiners - well done!! is there anyone left smoking lol?!?
im been smoke free for 10 days and two hours now.... i cant belive it!! im very pleased, and certain i'll be able to make this a permanent change in my life - i just dont want to be a smoker anymore.
feeling lots better, thanks for the well wishes, and back to work today. ive been busy today catching up with all my work from when i was off last week, so im hoping for my last two weeks there i'll remain busy and i'll not notice when its 'smoke break' time!!
my good thing about not smoking for today is just getting stuck into my work and not constantly clock watching, waiting on smoke break time to come along!!
keep up the good work everyone - one day we will not even think about cigs any more!!
xx0 -
:hello: Hi all - welcome to the new people that I have missed and congrats to both you and the regulars Sorry I have been MIA - have been following the thread but haven't been able to sit long enough to post a half decent coherent message so thought I'd best leave it be.
So anyway am back again now and will keep you all up-to-date on how things are going.
Congrats once again to all - this will be our year :T0 -
joop - thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply to my rant! I haven't cracked yet and as I live in the back of beyond will not be able to tonight either! I just feel so low - I thought I'd done the hard work and that things could only get easier. Apparently not
I took your advice and decided to get up off my backside and stop moping. So at least the house is remarkably clean and the dogs enjoyed a second walk today. And thanks to phillipsdj too - I tried the toothbrushing straight way and it really works!
So I think my problem is not the short-term fending off cravings, it's the long-term black cloud og gloom that seems to have settled above my head this week. I have read and re-read my Allan Carr which is my usual inspiration when things get tough but it just isn't doing it for me today. I know this isn't a result of physical nicotine addicton, it's all in my mind but I miss smoking SO SO SO much at the moment.
If I am this miserable in, say, two or three weeks I think I'll have to call it a day. And part of my brain is saying that if I am going to crack then, why not put myself out of my misery and do it now????
Sorry to be on such a downer, especially when every other quitter seems to be on a well-deserved high today. Strangely, I feel slightly better just writing it down. :undecided
Off for an evening's sulking now. Speak to you all tomorrow.

Hi everyone! I'm on Day 11 now, and have managed to stick with it without TOO much hassle. All the messages and comments on here really do help, thank you to all of you - it's so good to know we're not on our own doing this and great to see more and more people joining in.
I do need some help/advice/whatever. Am off to Portugal for a week with OH (who is still smoking), and whereas here I can do my own thing, and if need be avoid him, :rotfl:over there I won't be able to. Have got patches, will pack the clementines, and the inhalator (don't care if I look silly, just so long as I don't give in and have "just the one"!) Sun (I hope) nice food, and wine could be a recipe for disaster..any coping strategies welcomed.
little lily, I do feel for you. Been there, done that, but if you've got this far, you CAN do it. I gave in 18 months ago, having been smoke-free for a year, now having to fight all over again, and that's depressing. Please, keep with it, keep reading, and shout at us if you need to!:D0 -
Well I feel like I have climbed the first very small hill, (there are mountains to come), as I went to the shop for milk and didn't buy tobacco hoorah! The hard part starts tomorrow though but I really do no want to smoke anymore and hopefully it will happen this time. Good luck everyone xxMarried the most amazing man 05/12/09 and it was the best day ever, I'm a Mrs, he he!!:jWins 2009: Peroni Alessi bowl woohoo, 1 in 10 wins DVD from Maltesers, Avon lippy!!!Freebies-Bold Gel, CoffeePinecone Research - £9Mystery Shopping - £150

I have got a stinking cold, fuzzy head, nose, throat etc. eyes feel like I have rubbed them with sandpaper - but its still not gone to my chest - normally I would be fighting for breath, but still lighting up a fag - how mad  well welcome to everyone - keep up the good work (fight) and tomorrows another day

Hi there to all the newbies!:D
Big hugs to those who are struggling at the moment! Try to keep focused on why you want to quit, or keep busy.
I am still on the wagon!:j
Well done to everyone making this hard change, and very well done to those who have slipped and are trying yet again!:T0 -
Thanks for all the support today and sorry to have been a complete misery. If it's any consolation to all of those starting out on the journey, the first four weeks were a doddle!
Not sure why I have hit this brick wall but tomorrow is another day and I don't think it's possible to be as grumpy/furious/self-pitying/downright unpleasant company as I have been today. So off to bed for some more sulking, ready to do battle again in the morning.
If any other Allan Carr readers are out there - has anyone else encountered this 'mid-term' blip? I SO got what he was saying and it all COMPLETELY clicked but, like a mirage, the logic has disappeared for now...Easy way - schmeasy way!!!!
Anyway, I thank my lucky stars that I live in the country. If there had been an off-licence within ten miles of me tonight...;)
Night all and thanks a million x:T SMOKE FREE SINCE 3rd DECEMBER 2008 :T0 -

A very warm welcome to the thread stevedavis, welcome to MSE also! At day 12 you're already doing remarkably well, just keep strong and keep it up and don't let anyone sway you as you're doing this for YOU to get a fresh and healthy life!!!! How about putting the money saved into a pot and watching it grow, it can often act as a great incentive.
Welcome to the thread skr80! Well done on your great decision to quit! Where the coffee's concerned, how about changing the routine and opting for tea, drinking choc or something similar. Cigs are often linked together with other things such as coffee, tea, first in morning or after a meal etc. Break that routine, even a tiny bit, and you'll make things far easier for yourself. Keep strong skr80, all the very best and an exceptionally great decision for NOT smoking what you have first! A person with great resolve obviously, keep it up and you'll do so well!!
Well done getting to day 12 already graeme!!! HALT is a good one as you're right, it usually does affect us at such times. Keep it up, you're doing so very well.
Brilliant on deciding to quit on day 9 of the champix Naomi!!! I agree with your thinking, it would almost be daft to have done it any differently. You have the PM now so read through it and use the tips regularly. Every best wish for you to make this time THE time to quit for life - yours!!! How about putting your money saved aside too?!
Welcome to the thread Tigerlilley1980, of course no-one minds if you join in, the more the better as far as I'm concerned as it usually makes us all far stronger and able to succeed when there's more support here. You have one of the greatest reasons to wish to give up, to succeed too, so I sincerely hope you make it and can look forward to that darling little one soon.:A He/she will love it when it learns later on you gave up for her/him! You won't be risking passing on any bad habits either! Each day (or mountain!) at a time!!!! Keep that in mind and strive for the one you're on now! All the very best for all reasons!!:D
Welcome to MSE and the thread phillipsdj and many congratulations on almost 3 months being smoke free!!! :TA very good strategy about the first post, very motivational indeed and I'm pleased to know you've followed us throughout the time. All the very best hereon!!!
Hi again sillyme! I really do hope the inhalator idea will succeed for you and, from then on, that you're able to quit. However, for someone in your predicament all days count!!! How about trying out phillipsdj idea as all thoughts are well worth the try. I do hope that this might just be the start of you quitting for good!!! Keep in touch with us as it'll be good to know how you get on.
9 days smoke free is excellent news bozzy120 and with the pub challenge thrown in as well shows you're doing excellently!!! I really do hope this time though that you'll get over that 18 month hurdle to get yourself a smoke-free life for keeps!!! Keep the health and bank balance at the top of your "reasons to quit" sheet and get yourself free from debt and STAY quit!!!:j
Hi again skintandscared, you're welcome and very well done on becoming a non-smoker again!Deep breaths of fresh air always help at the times of urges, but do try glasses of water too. You'll also benefit greatly from clementines or satsumas as well as pure OJ as the Vit C from orange helps fight the nicotine so very much. Try changing your routines as well, all of those will make it far easier for you.
Many congratulations on reaching that marvellous 6 WEEKS joop!!!! :TThat really is such a great achievement and I know you're so very proud of yourself and so am I for you!!!!£35.00 a week is so much to save now, though you're right it does make you wonder how on earth you afforded it before!!! Keep strong joop, you're doing brilliantly!!!
Welcome to the thread ljs2000! I can't help you at all regarding the Champix, but I see joop is helping you out, Naomi and Waspeze also take it so you'll have plenty of support here. I wish you all the very best in quitting and staying that way!!! All the very best!
Hi little lily, don't worry about spoiling the atmosphere on the thread, that's what it's here for so you can let go of all your feelings and rant as much as you wish. If you need something to really spur you own why not think about your health and how it would be affected IF you were to go back to smoking again. You're right about it all being in your head though as it's been out of your body for ages now. Fight back lily and go swimming/a really brisk walk again tomorrow. The more exercise you get the more endorphins will be released into your body and you'll get over that low feeling, so exercise as much and as hard as possible! You CAN do this lily and YOU WILL!!!! Keep very, very strong!!
Just a thought, but are you sure it wouldn't help you if you spoke to your dear hubby about (what he probably already knows anyway) it all so you get more home support and the cuddles and love you're in need of right now. Quit quitting now and you'll be livid with yourself so very, very soon and need to go all through this again. It will all end and it'll be sooner than you're thinking right now, one day it'll just hit you out of the blue that "I haven't even thought of a ciggie today!!!!" That's how it works so don't question it too much now, just look forward to that time and look forward to the great health you'll have for your hubby and little ones!!! Now there's something to think about as you're doing it as much for them as you are for you!!! - phillipsdj's''s''s teeth cleaning idea is an excellent one and really does work, do it whenever you feel the urge.
<<<"If I am this miserable in, say, two or three weeks I think I'll have to call it a day. And part of my brain is saying that if I am going to crack then, why not put myself out of my misery and do it now????">>>
Why not turn that paragraph around in a positive thinking way: "If I could feel so happy in, say, two or three weeks I WON'T wish to call it a day! So all the parts of my brain thinking the opposite would feel so low and miserable - even more so if I were to pull out now!!! I really do wish you a far better day tomorrow (today) lily, plenty of exercise mind!!
Hi daleigha and well done on being smoke-free for 10 days!!! I'm so pleased to hear you're feeling much better now. I don't think you should worry too much about thoughts of going for "a ciggie break" it's you who's benefiting by getting your health so much better and saving all that money. Keep strong daleigha and look forward to walking down the aisle and smelling so beautiful and fresh! This is a really wonderful event in your life, for BOTH of you, not you alone!!! Well done and keep looking ahead!!!
So good to see you again MoonRose77, glad to hear you're feeling a lot better now. All the best in battling on!!!
Well done on reaching Day 11 Jayess, another one doing so very well indeed!!! Re going to Portugal for a week with your OH, I think you need to keep on telling yourself that it IS only for one week and if you've come this far already you'd hate yourself IF you quit!!! Explain your feelings to your OH and ask for his support to help you through it. If I think of any more tomorrow I'll let you know, though Lula was having the same problem last summer and was thrilled at her attitude of coping with it by feeling so very sorry for all those who were smoking when she had QUIT!!!
All the best Liberty, you too Jay_Jay, so pleased you're feeling much better now and that it didn't go to your chest, what a relief!
Very well put indeed Vi!!! Take note little lily and rant and rave here to get it off your chest as often as you wish!
Every best wish in quitting and staying free from that awful and evil drug everyone. Strengthen that resolve every new day!
