    - jeaniej, many congratulations on both of you having achieved 7 weeks as non-smokers!!! :T :TYou've done marvellously and should be so very, very proud of yourselves as it takes a great deal of determination and willpower to be able to do so. However, it takes just that last push to be able to STAY that way. Do you have friends that smoke? Are you working with friends who go for the regular trips outside for another fix of those evil sticks? Are your cigs related to drinking, if so can you get round it or alter where you drink - anything to help? Think back to the previous times you've started smoking again and think hard about what the triggers might be. In order to finally get past that 6 month block you need to find what stops you going 'the extra mile'

Count up all the money you've both saved during that time, better still - keep it all, put it aside then put it to good use after about a year when you can honestly (hand on heart) declare yourselves as having quit for life!!! You CAN both do this and for one (..I'd say) certain way to keep away from the negative thoughts after that wonderful first 6 months - every time you're tempted tell your DSs, ask for their help and see what their reactions are, it may just be the bit of help you need. You're fortunate they've both stayed sensible enough not to take up the addiction, see if they can help you at the time you most need it. You have each other to lean on and each other to be able to urge yourselves to keep that willpower strong! Mostly, at present, you have health on your side - keep it in mind at all times - so hopefully, you both stay that way!!! Think of future Grandchildren that might well help!:A

Well done little lily!!! I'm so pleased you've come onto the board again as there are some really great people here at present as you've already seen with joop answering you. She must be at a similar time as you and no doubt she'll let us know. Joop and all the others will help you along and you still know where I am! You've come so far, and now through that sheer willpower you've got over your 'wobble' and moved on further ahead. I'm thrilled you're now swimming, keep it up as you'll need all the puff you have for it! Keep with us lily, we're all here to help you through it all, though you're doing a grand job now! :T

Hi BlueIsTheColour, well another day and in the morning (Monday) I hope you're feeling even better again! However many days it is doesn't really matter exactly, the main thing is that you're well on your way to quitting for good!!!

    - joop You're quite right in that the routine cigs are hard to give up, but as you and so many others have proved, alter your day/things around and you can soon lose routines, dogs too if you're not carful!!! Good luck with wherever it is that you're at!

Welcome to the thread skintandscared and all the very best to you in quitting. YES you can do it and what better reason could you possibly have than dear young Tom's awful illness, bless him! I think you have all the motivation you need to start a fresh, healthy life again, but no matter what, we're all here for you as we still appreciate that you can still perhaps have slightly difficult times. So rant and rave to us IF there's a need, we'll support you all we can. Tom has a long fight ahead of him, his parents too,and what a wonderful support you'll be to your sister, especially smelling sweet and not needing to worry about where to smoke or when. Give it all you've got sands, just as dear Tom is doing!!! :j Hugs and kisses for that brave nephew of yours please! :D

All the very best of luck with your new, precious life!!!

Welcome to the thread debtmonster! All the very best for tomorrow! You have the PM now so read it all through and do your best to stick to all the hints, they'll help so very much if you let them. Alter routines around to fit in with vulnerable times, it gives you a great advantage! Come and tell us all your feelings, no matter what they are, it can be so helpful and there's usually someone here ready to offer help and advice, plenty of support too!

All the very best of luck with your new life!!!:D

Hi Vi! Feeling a bit better today thanks, though plenty of antibiotics left to get through. Still not as bad as my chest used to be when puffing! I wonder it your coffee thing could be to do with changing the routine from tea? So long as it's not harming you cig wise, then nothing to worry about for now, though try not to have too much as time goes on as it won't help your sleep.

All best wishes for a wonderful week everyone, and so long as it's smoke free it'll be wonderful for sure!!! :j:D

Me too - day 12 and I am not obsessing about cigarettes ALL the time (like days 3 and 4)

It gets easier, though constant vigilance. And remember HALT - I am more likely to smoke when :
    Hungry
    Angry
    Lonely
    Tired

    Hi Everyone,

Glad to see more new faces plus the "old" (meant in the nicest sense) :rotfl: Well done to you all!

I have decided that today is the day.. day 9 of the champix. The reason being, if I buy a pack I am just putting off the inevitable until a couple of days time anyway so I may as well start now.;)

I've downloaded the silkquit meter to my work pc to help keep me motivated.

Sue-uu can you please send me another of your PM's with all the tips on? I deleted all my old stuff a while ago. :o

Best of luck. I am stopping today - and have dozens of packets of tobacco I bought in Belgium would be Xmas 09 if I waited for it to run out :)

  • Hi all,

I am a very time lurker (around 2.5 years!!) and finally got round to signing up on Friday! I wanted my 1st post to be on this thread as it was such a big help to me when I first started quitting.

I have now been smoke free for almost 3 months and I just wanted to let all the New Year quitters on here that it does get easier - all the advice given on here is invaluable but in my opinion the most important piece ever given is to tackle the quit 1 cigarette at a time.

    Thanks again everyone!

Hi again sillyme. I wondered last night whether hypnotherapy might just be the answer to your problem, isn't there a means whereby if you're unable to succeed you can get all/part of your money refunded? Some people swear by hypnotherapy, while for others it doesn't work, I guess only you can decide whether the chance is worth taking, though personally, I think I would! Meanwhile how about changing your ways of doing things and if white spirits affect you the least then can you stick to them alone for a while? Whatever you think you have the most chances with - try it/them and rif yourself of those blasted things!!!

Thanks. Am actually thinking seriously about getting an (mortifyingly embarassing) inhalator. It's the suck and the feeling of smoke in my lungs that I crave (SHAME) so maybe a pull on one of these and feeling like I'm inhaling would help?

For now I haven't had a cig since early hours of 01/01/09 - mind you I haven't yet had a drink either so have not really been tested  So these few days probably don't count really.
  • Hi Sillyme,

Have you tried the classic lollypop method? I always missed the sucking/lung filling feeling that you describe but I found that sucking on a sugar free lollypop soon stopped the craving.

Plus (I stress this only my opinion) as silly as I looked I don't think I looked as bad as I would with an inhalator!

    Cheers,
