  • Hi all,

Just checking in to let you know that - today has been better than yesterday!!!

    Not great - but bearable...

I have still spent much of the day obsessing about cigarettes but I THINK I may have got things a little more into perspective. I have read on some other websites that wobbling at around three or four weeks is actually quite common. Nothing to do with nicotine cravings, everything to do with 'brainwashing' or 'the big monster' (if you read Allan Carr!) or 'triggers' (if you don't!)

The one saving grace is that, without exception, EVERY SINGLE ex-smoker on EVERY SINGLE website that I have visited says that if you stick with it, the cravings will eventually go.

So, still not a puff for me and determination still high even if I am suffering A BALLY LOT at the moment.

Many, many thanks to you all for helping me through the toughest couple of days of my quit so far - especially Sue-UU who is one in a million with her wise words and warming PMs.

I leave you with a thought from a very touchy-feely American quit site - an estimated 440,000 adults die each year in the US from smoking related disease. There has NEVER been a reported case of a death caused by cravings. Cravings may hurt BUT AT LEAST THEY DON'T KILL YOU.

    Onwards and upwards...;)

Hi stevedavis, I hope your method is working for anyone who needs more help, it sounds a little like Paul McKenna to my mind!! Whatever - if it works then why not do it!!! :D

Very well done with such a great attitude skintandscared! You have a great way of viewing it all, keep it up. Do try orange juice as a general drink though as the Vit C does wonders for your body in stopping the nicotine affecting you. Also peel clementines at the times of the pangs/urges though it really helps. My Father-in-law always <<"Smoked roll-ups and they didn't smell nearly as bad as the ciggies I smoked">> and I thought the same as you so tried those to get me off of cigs. I soon became addicted to those even more!!! :confused:I do hope that in time you'll help your "smoking partner" quit too!

Hi fabulous_girl and welcome to the thread. Do try and be patient until you can see the Nurse. Have a look through the PM I've sent and see if any of that might just help. You never know. The main thing is that you want to give up, very much too by the sound of it. Ask yourself what the real reasons were that you weren't able to stay quit when you went back to work? Once you've answered that and found a different way around the problem you may well be able to help yourself! Good luck and keep quitting, but remember that which ever way you do it, you still need willpower!!! Try to take real notice of nikzGfx post no 261, it makes a great deal of sense and really makes you think! Excellent posting nikzGfx!:T

Very well done Tigerlilly1980!! You really sound determined and are doing all the right things, keep them up, your great willpower too!:j

Hi there little lilly and congratulations on getting through that hard day - but you made it and you should be so very, very proud of yourself!!!:T The Web sites were so right with that they said about the wobbling at around three or four weeks and that's actually quite common. That's why we so often tell people not to become too complacent after they believe they've almost quit. Please take great notice of the last paragraph in your post, hang onto facts like that and it may well help you through this difficult patch. I wish you well as I know we all do, so stay strong and keep looking at the first tips PM too please! :D

Hi queen vi. I think it was you feeling sorry for them as they're still slaves to them and the awful habit whereas you're almost through freeing yourself from the horrible, evil things and all they bring with them!!! Keep strong Vi and keep viewing that mental image of a very healthy you further down the track!!:T :j

Keep strong everyone!:T You've come this far of such a wonderful journey - keep going til you reach your destination! Watch out for the sign called "a VERY healthy life"! :D

  • I am now five hours shy of 2 whole weeks.

That is a staggering 20,000 minutes!! I used to smoke every 60-90 minutes, so going 20,000 minutes is amazing.

Keep going folks, it does get easier with time. Admittedly, I still crave, not it is not obsessive like it used to be.
  • Day 14 for me now, yippee!!!! Although I am still flu-ed up and feeling rubbish, annoying germs but in a way they've helped cos I've been too ill to even think aobut smoking and hopefully now, those cravings are gone???

Well done everyone for getting this far, and for thise who are struggling, just think of how much healthier and wealthier you will be if you persevere, keep putting the coins in the money box and thinking about something nice you can spend it on, instead if burning it!!
  • :TWell done graeme and blue:T

Now been 4 weeks for me and nearly had a wobble yesterday but managed to reign it in and not succumb - especially when I saw how much I'd saved by not smoking and there is no way I am going to undo all the work I've done so far.

    Keep it up guys :j

Lordy!I'm on the champix and still getting the cravings/urges

I know it's not a miracle cure and you have to put some effort in... I wonder how bad it would be without the tablets:confused: Actually I know, I would have caved by now.

Things can only get better  My DH is still smoking but we have never smoked in the house but I am going to have to get him to keep them away from me for a while I think, although when he came in from the garden last night, I did notice the pong! :rotfl:

Whilst we're all sharing.. I'll tell you all my guilt about smoking. DH was 21 and I was 24 when we met. I'd been smoking 10 years and he wasn't a smoker. By the time he was 25 he was on 20 a day. DH says it wasn't me that made him start and he'd always been a social smoker when he had a drink (never did this with me) but I can't help but feel that if I didn't smoke and smell, he would never have started. I'm hoping he will see that I can quit and take the plunge.

Well done everyone else for keeping going :T

  • Hi all. I am starting to crave something rotten today mostly at times when I would have normally smoked, it's ridicuous really though. I just keep trying to tell myself that I don't need them and it is working so far. xx

  • Oh gosh - have I started something???

Everyone was going so well until I mentioned the dreaded 'c' word...now we all seem to be suffering!

I'm feeling better today, but still not brilliant. I just keep telling myself that cravings won't kill me but that ciggies might.

I'm 1 month 1 week and 3 days in. I'd hoped to be over the worst by now but my stupid subconscious mind has other ideas.

Tell you what, Tigerlilley, Naomim and MoonRose - I WON'T CRACK IF YOU DON'T!!!!!;)
