  • Keep going people. We can do this. Early days, but it is getting slightly easier in terms of I obsess about smoking less than I used to 10 days ago.
  • Hi to everyone I am in need of help this week its week 8 and I am wanting to eat all the time. I really dont want to put on loads of weight but its really not easy to stop munching. I am not overweight at all and my job is quite energetic so thats helping to keep the weight down. I would love to know when it gets easier and you dont have any thoughts about cigerettes. The nhs said after a few months, unfortunately the last time I quit and stayed off a year I still had really bad days.Anyone with any good advice is much appreciated. Thanks and good luck to eveyone keep it up . I am going for a walk now so I dont eat anything else.

    Hi everyone :hello:

Thought I'd say hello at last, I've reading this (and the other one) for a few months now and finally after 25 years of smoking have stopped since 1st Jan :j I'm soooo pleased with this, I've never had the guts to even try giving up before!

For me the Allen carr way seems to have worked for me but I've tried to push myself too as I believe too that my cravings will only go once I've experienced everything I did as a smoker as a non smoker, so I have had a few drinks and basically not changed my routine at all and (fingers crossed) so far so good.

One thing though my OH still smokes and since yesterday especially I HATE the smell of the smoke and when I woke this morning I felt like I'd smoked 40 in an hour my throat was so sore but could only have been the passive smoking!!

Anyway best of luck to everyone and keep at it
  • I know how you feel Jesdan. My OH still smokes too and I don't honestly think he'll EVER quit!! He has mental health problems and by all accounts I'm quite lucky that he's contented with just ordinary roll-ups, if you know what I mean!!

I'm on day 4 and can honestly say my cravings have pretty much gone. I'm doing everything as usual. Just off up the pub so we'll see how that goes!

Best of luck with the pub!!
I am now also on day 4 - and plan to have a few beers (at home) tomorrow evening. I am expecting this to be one of the difficult parts - but one I have to face as I 'want' to be able to drink beer and enjoy that without the what was obligatory associated cigarette....

cheers! Y'know what - it was absolutely fine. I had a couple of drinks and just stayed in the pub while my mates went outside for a ciggie. It was lovely to stay indoors in the warm, and now that the nicotine is out of my system I honestly had no "pangs". It's just a pain that every single one of my mates smokes, and they all go out at the same time, but I'll just have to tell them that in future can they stagger their trips so I'm not stuck on my own!!! I'll be the one laughing when it's pouring with rain outside ;)

Oh well done Vi! I'm so pleased for you - but not as pleased as you are I bet :T
  • Hi everyone!

I joined this thread back last year, and managed to give up for just over 3 weeks. Then I started smoking again and was too ashamed to come back :o

But here I am again, hoping that this time I can actually give up for good.... I have just found out I am pregnant again, so for health reasons and for financial reasons, I desperately need to give up again! Going to have my last ciggie now, then going cold turkey.... well done to all you guys for doing so well in giving up, and keeping fingers x my willpower alone will help me along!

Wonderful news Steve and a great goal achieved already!!! :T Weeks always sounds so good to me, but then - all being well - they turn into months and that is fantastic! Still, a day at a time will get everyone there. A great idea with painting the kitchen as anything similar makes us feel even cleaner and uses up thought time which is always good.:A

Hi HHH, so good to see you again! :jYou're welcome to the PM, least I can do. Very well done on cutting down and beginning to ask yourself " do I want this fag", it's a really good start before the ultimate one so keep on asking yourself that vital question - but replace the word "want" with "need"!!! We'll be thinking of you on Monday and hoping you can start stopping ASAP.

Another successful day Naomi, good for you! :TYou're really fortunate in having all of us here and a close friend that you work with who stopped smoking at the beginning of Jan. Encourage each other on as best you can, share tips too as she may have ones you haven't and vice versa. Good luck to you BOTH!!! :j

Hi Graeme, it's always a good sign when folk obsess about smoking less and less as they go along their journey. Very well done, you're doing so well!! :T

Hi again jeaniej. Is your DH still quitting with you? as, if he isn't that will have made it more difficult. To help with the eating, which is a natural response for a while when the dreaded nicotine is taken away, drink as much water as possible. A full glass when hunger pangs strike will so quickly make you feel full, I promise you! Also keep peeled carrots ready in the fridge to eat at will. Orange Juice will help and so will clementines as the time it takes to peel them all adds to the time taken up to get you further from the pangs. Have you tried Ice Pops? You'll be amazed just how much they can help 'fill' you up. Even if you normally exercise well, you still need far more during the quitting time so get as much in as you possibly can, you'll soon feel the benefits. When you go for your walk (anywhere) make it as brisk as possible.

The NHS have told you it gets easier and you don't have any thoughts about cigs after a few months, but that all depends on each individual. Personally, I'd say it gets less and less the further you get away from those first few days. Later on you may get pangs of "I'm missing something" that come flying into your mind and confuse you as they aren't cravings, just a normal happening for most of us and flashes by in seconds, honestly! You are doing so well to get through that 8 weeks jeaniej keep on going and strengthen your resolve daily as to why you're giving it up. Your health and the money are so important to you, for most of us too, bear those in mind and get your good health back!!!! Keep all the above in mind when you reach that horrible 6 month mark, it's your mind that's let you go back each time, nothing else, keep hold of it from now on!!!

Hello and welcome jesdan and congratulations on quitting for 15 days already!!!:T It's wonderful to read as 25 years is a long time, but as I've said above to jeaniej you want to get as healthy as possible. Wealthy too no doubt! Please tell me your OH doesn't still smoke indoors????:( PLEASE ask him to consider and support you and kindly go outside or in a shed rather than force you to STILL smoke the cigs you thought you'd given up!!! As you've been reading the threads all that time you know what is best for you to help yourself through as well as the Allen Carr way. All the very best in quitting for good AND for your life!!!:D

Well done to you on those great 4 days skintandscared, you too skr80!!! Keep it up both and I was so thrilled to see your visit to the pub went so very well SandS!!!! :TI hope your beers will be the same for you too skr80!!

Excellent news to read Vi!!!! :TYou're doing marvellously and I can imagine how very proud you are at your success!!

Hi again happymumof3! Congratulations on that 3 weeks!! However, please don't ever be too ashamed to come back and tell us how things have gone - we're not Saints on here you know!!!:A Many congratulations on your forthcoming 4th precious one, when are you due? Now let's see if we can help you quit fully for then AND for life, your own, your OJ and the little ones! I'm delighted to see you're focusing on the health and financial reasons, remind yourself of both reasons whenever you may feel a bit weak. Also, look into the eyes of the 3 precious darlings you already have and remind yourself why you're quitting. All the very best of luck in getting your life back!!!:D

All best wishes to EVERYONE! Keep strong whatever stage you're at and remember that a day to you is as important as a month may be to another quitter as you're all unique and your lives are precious, keep them that way!:D
