Well done so far mudgekin, brilliant work!!We've had several people on before complaining about the patches so I think you're wise to quit them. They may also account for the tingling in your right arm and hand. Though being generally fidgety and lacking in concentration could simply be quitting cigs anyway. Try more exercise as that helps a lot with both problems, so do as much as you can, indoors or outdoors and get a really good work-out however you do it. Keep on focusing on the fact that you're enjoying being a non smoker though and follow all the tips to help you along. Have you got a PM with tips etc on?

Re the "Each time I go to post the thread disappears again" bit; have you got your javascript turned off? If you're not sure what it is then please let me know whether you're using IE or Fire Fox

You don't need to ask to join us louserendipity, you're very welcome to! I can't advise you about Champix though, some people here report having no side effects whilst others do say they've felt a bit queasy for a few days, though none have reported actually being sick. See what you think then decide whether it's that or cold turkey. Whatever you decide, you'll always get plenty of support and advice from us all here, so come to the thread whenever you wish and let us know exactly what you're thinking. The very best of luck to you both! Give each other as much love and support throughout it all as possible.

Very well done indeed for keeping so strong and almost getting to the two weeks x.sophie.x!!! You did remarkably well in getting through that urge in the pub, how about taking something with you to distract you in future?

Well done on getting to day 5 skintandscared!!! I sincerely hope you're able to stick to this "I seriously can't envisage a situation where I could think that a ciggie would make things better." part of your last paragraph! Keep so very strong!

Excellent news about your two week anniversary daleigha!!! Re the idea about pressing your finger and thumb together and thinking about yucky smells and tastes a few pages back, that was either stevdavis or graeme, but I'm sure it was the latter. Do try hard to change your routine at the times of still having cravings, or try a different drink or clean your teeth then. All the best when you go out, keep focused on you going up the aisle and starting married life smoke-free!!!

You're more than welcome jeaniej, it's a real pleasure. I'm pleased you've been to the NHS and got their help. The hand to mouth action can be replaced with things such as nibbling on raw carrots or a pen, things along that line. All the best for you and and your DH and setting a goal for February to start evening walks and going swimming, especially in, what sounds like, a fantastic pool!!!

Many congratulations on reaching that terrific goal of a year suki1964!!! :T You've done marvellously and I'm sure your as proud as proud can be of yourself and so you deserve to me too! I can't bear the stench of 'real' cigs, but can just about tolerate roll-ups, but just like you, can smell either ages before hubby can and he's never smoked. It must be because we smoked before!

Thanks so much for the amazing news, it really helps drive new folk on.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, rain or not and enjoy your great new lifestyle - smoke-free!

hi can i join you all please?
i had planned to give up xmas day , then new yr's day , failed both of those so went to the doc for zyban but she refused and sent me to quitters
went to quitters and was prescribed champix but am terribly scared of being sick so me and my oh are going cold turkey as of today
    wish us luck !!

I used the champix and I was never actually sick

For a few days i felt nauseas for a while in the mornings, just like morning sickness really but it wore off by mid morning. Yes its a bit of a pain but it did only last a few days and in the grand scheme of things whats a few days discomfort when kicking such a horrible habit?

I know a lot of people never get past the nausea and use it as an excuse to stop the champix and for some stop trying to quit, but everyone I know who pushed them selves on past that stage are now non smokers:j:j
  • I have noticed that the 'permanent' staining on my smoking fingers has now disappeared!!!
Went to the denstist too, and he said if you start smoking again, see me in 6 months, and if stay stopped, you only need to see me in a year.
He said smoking destroys teeth and the bones in your jaw, and that gets mighty expensive.
  • hi again
thanks sue for the pm , lots of great tips in there
well i have managed 1 day 11 hours 43 minutes so far :j
i decided on going cold turkey as my sickness phobia is so bad that it would've given me an excuse to fail
my better half is joining me so that should make it easier
to be honest i haven't felt too bad , chewing lots of minty gum is helping , but i am eating more and i need to sort that out before it becomes a problem
thanks all for the support ,
lots of love and luck to all of you

Sorry to hear that. I have the book written by allen carr (that tells you to smoke if you want whilst you read it!!) - a lot of people swear by it. If you pm your email addy I can send to you (its a small pdf file - 280k I think)

Dont beat yourself up about it!! Have you tried the nicotine patches? I am also stopping, and trying to separate the habit stuff (fag with drink, fag after food, fag at work break etc) from the nicotine addiction. So I am currently addicted to the nicotine via the patch, but have quit the habits of a smoker. I have read that its a 3 day period for nicotine to be expelled, so am 'delaying' that moment until I have broken the habits fully..... make sense???
    :j
  • hi i have tried the patches and they burn my skin so no go there !
i have done it cold turkey before but my life is in a bit of a mess at the moment and i have always relied on my fags at times of stress
maybe it's a bad time for me to try but then again what's the point in putting it off???
i need to give up but don't know how best to do it
i have the champix tablets but am very sick phobic so don't fancy feeling sick for weeks on end , maybe i should just take them and be done with it but i am very scared !
    smoke free since 01/02/09 :T

If you are determined to give up, throw your cigarettes away right now, and write down on paper "I am not going to smoke for the next 2 hours" then read it back to yourself.

After that 2 hours is up, you can decide to have a cigarette if you wish, or do another 2 hour stint. Just take it an hour or 2 at one time
