    Hi all :D

Long time, no post lol :o

Well i'm still smoke free, lost count but think its 4 months+ now :j

Although there are still times when i could kill for a smoke :(
Recently had a very stressful time, one of my cats was seriously ill and unfortunately didnt make it :( I didnt give in tho ;)

Also i went out with a friend a few weeks ago in my car and he had run out of cigs (he's a smoker but i'm working on it lol) and i said 'there's some in the glove box if you want one'. There was only a few in a packet but they have been there since i gave up, so altho i have been tempted a few times and they were easily acsessible i didnt give in :p

Also several people have mentioned they cant stand the smell of cigs now when the walk past people smoking, but to be honest i still like it, but it doesnt make me want to smoke  I dont like the smell of stale smoke on peoples clothes tho.

Good luck to all those who have recently quit, its easier than you think :T
    Errrr...come back later ;)

Hi Claire, good to see you've now stopped smoking, though you surprise me with you still having a struggle as most people on Champix say they can't bear the taste and are glad to be free from the cigs. Still, you always get one that reacts differently, though tomorrow (today) might be totally different with you finding quitting easier than. Time will tell, but now's the time to do as much as you can to keep your mind active; get on out for some long walks, clean the house, wash the car, take up a hobby you've left - or take up a new one, anything to keep you free from thinking! Be careful of eating too much, concentrate on fruit, nuts (not too many), sipping water etc. Clean your teeth as the fresh flavour in your mouth makes you feel so different. Pound up and down the stairs at any difficult times, get out family snaps - anything that gets you focused on other things. Pay heed to larmy's words too, she's right!

I hope you had a lovely weekend larmy, free from the problems your visits used to bring you.

Hi Wesker, and thanks for that wonderful news you brought us as it's always so good to know what happens to folk once they quit. Congratulations on around 4 & 1/2 months( by my reckoning)!!! :T You're doing so well in getting through difficult situations that would normally have had us reaching for the ciggies, you're well on your way so keep staying strong and being an ex-smoker!!:j Good luck with trying to get your friend to a new and healthy lifestyle, I really hope you succeed! I'm strange with the smell of others smoking, sometimes I detest it...others I just love it and could quite easily follow them for a while...... On clothing or in someone's house though....ugh disgusting!!! :lipsrseal Keep up that great work!

Hopefully all our recent quitters are out there and getting on with their new found lives without the cigs in it. I just hope lack of posting's not as a result of us being in the darned diaries rather than on the main DFW. ....and after we'd been doing so very well too.:(

    Sue ...very sad.

  • Help I need some support to get me through my quitting!

I have just thrown a half full packet of ciggies in the bin. I want my smoking to end there. I am dreading the next 3 days but am hoping that by Monday I will be free of most of the withdrawal symptoms and free of the terrible gulit and worry associated with smoking. I am expecting to feel dreadful tomorrow and Saturday tbh.

All the success stories on this thread are an inspiration.

    Fingers Crossed for me.

hope you don't mind me posting but I am on champix day 4 and having previously quit and stupidly re-started smoking I am already cutting right down, I am hoping to be smoke free on Monday. I just have to remember to take my tabs!

    Hi IWRS

You may find that it is not so dreadful as you fear. I tell you something to encourage you, is that any cravings are a small price to pay for the guilt and worry you are experiencing. For me that was the jewel in the crown for giving up. Never mind the health dangers, smells, etc, and the beauty is that the guilt and worry left the minute I stopped doing it.

It will be worth it. Go for it. Soon you will wonder where the time went.

I was taking some washing out of the machine yesterday when I had a thought of how lovely it was to just get on with things and not have that blasted nagging of nicotine.

    Good luck.:)

Hey a lot of us have done the dumb re-starting thing! :o

Hope you have a great weekend and are looking forward to Monday.

Post on the thread and let us know how you are getting on, or to let off steam. I still have the odd moment! It is posting on here however that keeps me focussed as nicotine can sometimes be quite an adversary!

Most of the time it is easy, but very occasionally nicotine can put in an appearance and try to convince you that it is the thing you need even though you know best that it is not!!!

    Good luck. :)

Thank you for your kind words. It's the nag of nicotine that I dread tbh. When I try to concentrate on work is when it seems to get worse..It's sooooo bad then. Jeese what is that? And does it go?

    Thanks Again

    Hi

I heard some radio prog. the other day about stopping smoking. Someone was saying that if you did deep breathing for a minute or so, the craving would subside.

Remember it is the fear of the feeling that is worse than the actual feeling if that makes sense. You can do it. Why don't you do like I did, keep a journal for the first few weeks or however long you need. I did the 12 steps thing too, like Alcoholics Anonymous - One day at a time.

Or even one minute or one hour at first so you dont torture yourself thinking "I can never do this again" - which is a very scary thought when you are just stopping.

I am sure Sue will be in touch soon and give you all her wisdom and hints and tips.

All the best. :) Just focus on being free of the guilt and anxiety.

Edited to add. You may find all sorts of emotions coming up, particularly grief, loss and anger which is why I found it helpful to write it all down to have to look back on.

Some brilliant advice you've given larmy and I couldn't have done better!!!

A very warm welcome to the thread IWRS and jpmummy! You're at the beginning of a sometimes scarey but very wonderful journey, the one that will make you Ex-Smokers if you take heed of all that's said on the thread - and all the terrific advice larmy's already given you both. You also have the PM that I've sent you both. Unfortunately, I'm off on holiday today (Fri) but I won't be gone for long, about a week and a couple of days. So here's the challenge, I'm leaving you in wonderful hands as larmy is a great adviser - so for me and most certainly for you BOTH, it would be really great news for me to see you both here and having made good progress!!! :j I'll be thinking of you both and willing you to do your absolute best so you can take control of your lives once again. Please take note of the PM and all you read here, it'll be your saving grace. All the very best to you both, I truly wish you well!!!

larmy, over to you! You are amazing with the way you've been, time to pass even more of it on. All the best with the weight, if you can quit smoking then you CAN lose weight!

    All best wishes EVERYONE!!!

    Love, Sue x

  • Morning,

Well I'm still hanging in there. Actually, I've woken up feeling pretty good tbh. I've had worse withdrawal symptoms on a long plane flight or in the theatre. Maybe the worst past me by when I was asleep!?

So the physical withdrawals have left me, more or less. Now I'm just left with the nagging doubt that I'm suddenly gonna change my mind and rush out and buy myself a packet of fags......

....wish me luck. If I get the chance I will check in later.
