Many congratulations oldblueeyes!!!!:T You've achieved the best thing you'll ever do for yourself!!:T I do so hope you're so very proud of being a non-smoker for nigh on 10 years!!! I've been free for 10 & 1/2 years now and am chuffed to bits at what I achieved....and so should you be!!! :D I've been able to comfortably be outside with friends who smoke for a good few years now, mostly it doesn't affect me at all, but at times I find it quite disgusting and can smell it until the next day!

All the very best and WELL done!

A great decision BonandDom and the best you'll ever make!:T Those are some great reasons, print them off and display them somewhere where you can see them. The main ones you want to quit for are your health and your DD and we wish you ALL the very best in doing so and achieving your goal. Go for doing as much exercise as possible, it helps so much more than most folk realise. SandC has put forward a great idea for the money, why not go for it so that you do save it and can see it all, it's a great incentive!

All the very best and keep talking to us and letting your feelings out here on the thread.

A great decision for you too Morgan_Ree!:T If it's the 3 week stage when the problems set in then keep a diary to see what it is that upsets things at that stage. You're still so young, you have almost a life-time in front of you and Uni to look forward to, please be determined and go for your goal, as I've said to BonandDom, it's the very best thing you'll ever do!!!

Every best wish to EVERYONE, you CAN do this and if you stay strong and exercise hard you'll get to where you want to be! :j Go for it!!!

Yesterday - first no smoking day :D

Helped enormously by the fact that I seem to have caught flu from DD

But hey I will take help from whichever direction it comes:rotfl:

Woke up this morning feeling better, and surprisingly did not reach for that packet DH had conveniently left on the table. (Don't worry I know it's not going to be this easy!!)

Quick cup of tea and spreadhseet set up to show my savings(also incorporated my health benefits). Wondering whether I should get some nicotine gum should the cravings hit too hard later, and if so do I put this cost against my savings - mmmm

Thanks for the messages of support everyone

  • Hi BonandDom

I'm on week 6 of being smoke free. Unfortunately I'm in the same position as you my OH is still puffing.

Let's both hope that they give up soon. It's not really making it harder for me to stop it's just that the house still stinks, there's dirty ashtrays. I never spent much money smoking as I smoked roll ups, my OH spends a fortune on cigs.

On the up side he has been smoking less, although we go on hol in 2 weeks time and he is determined to bring back his usual stash of cigs.

    Good luck x

Congratulations BonandDom!!! :T You've started off marvellously, now stay strong and don't let your OH smoking get to you. I'd hope he smokes outside..! It always helps us more if we feel a bit poorly, so if it's helping then let's hope it doesn't leave you too quickly! ;) IF you do get some nicotine gum then remember one thing...you'll still be putting nicotine into your body, even if it's only a little! If you can manage without, then in just 3 days all nicotine will have left your system! I know what I'd do, but I'm not you. As ever, I wish you the very best of luck...and good health!! :j Good for you on putting which day you're on in the title bar, it really does help. Also, could you put the means you're doing it by; cold turkey etc. Thanks. :D

Hi there Karma and congratulations on getting to 6 weeks of being a non-smoker!!! :T You've been doing amazing and I hope you're really, really proud of yourself! :D A shame about your OH looking forward to bringing fags back off holiday, we can only hope that with time...and YOU as a great role model he'll be wanting to be free of it all too!! I do hope he soon sees that he should be smoking outside!:o I can't stand that stench either. All the very best Karma, keep up that brilliant work. Could you also put which week you're on in the title bar, it so helps everyone. Also, could you put the means you're doing it by. Thanks a lot.

All best wishes everyone, stay strong, keep yourselves exercising well and get fit as well as healthy! Inhale deeply to get that fresh air in and give your lungs a treat!

  • Nearly over day two, but this seems to be the hardest time with OH sat next to me smoking:mad:

But, he has cut down (probably due to me huffing and puffing every time he reaches for his lighter:D)

    So thats £9.20 saved already - I feel rich:rotfl:

Well, you BonandDom are doing so very well - BUT - please have a word with your OH because that is so cruel for him to continue smoking in the house, even more so it's such a stupid thing to do with a child in the house! Second-hand smoke can kill, PLEASE make him aware of this and ask that he always smokes OUTSIDE!

    Hello all,

Just thought I'd pop on and say how great everyone is doing :T

I am so pleased this thread is still going strong, I remember a couple of years ago when I sat down and started typing the first post of the first giving up smoking thread, I was so down and fed up with being controlled by cigarettes, having to get up and go out to smoke, particularly when it's windy and cold and stood there under an umbrella that kept being blown inside out, just desperate to smoke a fag and thinking that people watching me must've thought I was nuts! I don't have that anymore. I do miss the gossip when the work people go out for a fag but now that being around smokers doesn't bother me anymore I go out just for the gossip and don't feel tempted to smoke (couldn't do this at first obviously!). So, yes, life does get back to normal. It took a while for the addiction to take hold and it takes a while to get back to normal.

Try not to be impatient or complacent.

Good luck and congrats to everyone that wants or is cutting out the smoking :)

    xx

I had an emotional drama this week and for the first time in ages I thought about going out and buying some cigs. I was shaking with anger and just did not know what to do with myself!

From the back of my mind came this tiny whisper "Smoking is not going to help - don't even fall for that one" - I also thought of Puzzledbubbles who had a horrible situation to get through and did not fall. It is kind of ironic that the subsequent barbecue should present another challenge for her - but there is no logic to cravings, nor to the whole business of smoking.

Well I calmed down, without smoking but I have to say I was surprised by the strength of feeling I had to turn to it!!! After all this time!

As Jo says, never give up and never be complacent. Have a good weekend all.

Hiya Jo!! Lovely to see you here! I'm sure this thread will always be going along with your name cropping up as it's founder, and what a great job you did for yourself and so many more who have quit because of you!! :T There's nothing quite like having a thread such as this 'on tap' for anyone on MSE and desperately seeking to quit and start life afresh, both for health and financial reasons. Thanks for giving them all that chance to let the thought flourish into action Jo, you're a star! :staradmin or 2!:starmod::A

All that goes to show how far you've come larmy, a little while ago and it would have been a different story! You've so much to be truly proud of and really do deserve a pat on the back for having got there by your own thoughts. If the emotional drama was as powerful as it sounds then it's little wonder that you were tempted to reach out, but the fact is - you didn't, instead you reasoned with yourself. From now on they'll get less and less as you're learning to 'cope' without a crutch! You always did before puffing!!! Congratulations! You did yourself proud!

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

Oh Larmy, i hope that things are sorted for you now! I have to say that your post has really helped me, i never thought that people would see my posts as useful and now i know at least one post was :)

Im still going strong with the non smoking, even went outside with some of the girls while the puffed away on Saturday night, ive gone well past the 3 month mark now, on my way to the 4 months and ive not had one puff.

I know that for somepeople that sounds obvious, but i have given up before and gone on the principle that just one cigarette wont matter, that i can have one puff on a night out and not smoke the next day and it works for a little while, then i feel guilty for borrowing smokes from friends and buy some - but not this time :T

Thanks for all of the support guys, chin up, keep trying to quit even if you dont succeed and think of every cigarette not smoked as a triumph :)

    Puzzled xx
