The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 2

i've gotta say that i gave up smoking moreorless overnight when i found out i was pregnant and i'd smoked for approx 8 years - roughly about 20per day. Its been nearly 15yrs now and i do occassionally still crave a ciggie but only if i smell one - i tend to try and have a sneaky whiff thru my nose.
alcohol i gave up again quite suddenly as i was always drinking in the house and just didn't want the kids seeing me drinking.
the one thing i can't for the life of me give up is eating - i'm 5ft 3 and 12 stone and it's all on my stomach & legs. i can't even diet very well as i don't have the willpower despite quitting booze & cigs.
for those who've drunk a bottle of wine a night for yrs and want to stop, i'd maybe try and substitute it for something else - maybe grape spritzer or something along those lines and also its in a wine looking bottle so psychologically that may help. try and change your routine of a night - don't sit in the room you'd normally have your wine (if poss). even if you can'tface not having wine at all whatabout being strict about the time of the 1st glass - if you have your first glass at 8 instead of when you first come home you probably won't get through the full bottle.
the thing is, to some of us its a real pleasure having a few glasses of whatever of a night and we work so hard so it seems unfair denying ourselves a glass but a bottle every night can't be good for us.0 -
Just passing thro....can't be long, got the pressure cooker on, pressure cooking (if you hear a "wooomph" in the background that'll be my kitchen on its way to a different postcode) just seeing how y'all doing (good on ya YM!).
Hi Fifi & Miamoo...as a 2 bottle a day person (see? break the habit now! I used to think a bottle in a night was shocking......now it's nowhere near enough)...all I can say is, stick with it & with us....I'm afraid I have been a notoriously bad example (but that was LAST year) but others on here will offer you guidance & inspiration.
And if at first you don't succeed...

Evening all
Fifi, welcome to the new spangly thread  I have found through my 16yr relationship with alcohol, I've only ever seriously broken the circle when I hit rock bottom, I hit that again over the past few weeks. If I were you, I'd read through the old thread (link is in the first post) and read back a way where most of us have been at a low point at some time or other, then you will see that we all have been a 1 glass, then 2 glass, then 1 bottle etc etc kinda drinkers, it gets you see....you don't realise it till it's too late then you've been sucked in. Try and break the circle now before you are sucked in further. There was some good (and sobering!!!) reading in the Sun today about the damage xmas drinking can do, can't find a link to it unfortunately but did stumble across a drink units calculator which frightened the life outta me!!!
YM, glad to hear that can's still safely in the fridge, the bottles of Becks are still in the kitchen and I told OH to get rid of it otherwise I'll drink um!!
Feeling good, well actually physically feel like carp, but mentally feel fine. I have no intention of drinking tonight. Am looking forward to my pork belly that's cooking, just about to put the mash on, then xmas yule log for afters, then a big bag of toffee butterkist popcorn, then a toffee crisp, then some other carp....you can see where this is going can't you? And looking forward to feeling un-hung-over'ed tomorrow, although probably tired as I doubt I'll sleep too well and be terrified after the vivid dreams I'm likely to have!!
