The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 2

Hi,
Met a friend tonight and went for a meal. Shared a bottle of wine. We both had pretty full glasses when we asked for the bill. I of course started knocking mine back so as not to leave any, but my friend left almost a full glass untouched. Do you know, I almost said 'oh, do you not want that?' so I could have it, but somehow - for dignity's sake! - managed to stop myself leaning over and grabbing her glass.
How great would it be to be a normal drinker and be able to walk away from it? With me it's like a compulsion. And although some of the AA ideas I'm not sure about, I really do believe that with me this compulsion has been there since the very first drop of alcohol passed my lips. Dad and grandfather both had drink problems, so it does lend weight to the genetic argument.
Anyway, being aware of it is one thing - managing it is the challenge, which is why I'm here. Ups and downs along the way still, but so grateful for this place to be honest and share experiences and not feel alone with it.
Have a good weekend all.

Hi everyone :hello:
This is going to be a very quick post, (yes I know for me thats good)
Only got in from gym at 10pm just in time to watch Eastenders, and poor Danielle/Amy is no more. I AM GUTTED AND THEN GUTTED SOME MORE. Why oh why couldn't Archie have been the one to be knocked down. I could happily slap his face and I am not a violent person. But he is vile. YUCK.
Anyways another af day for me please HP so 2 so far, hope all is well with you my dear? Hugs xxxxx

1AF please Happy.
Good feeling to get off the mark. It's definitely getting easier once I'm past that miserable feeling when I'm getting dinner:(
Unlikely to do more than one more day before my holiday next Tuesday then off for best part of a week.
Good to see a good crowd going forward to an AF April (it's certainly a step into the unknown for me) and welcome to all our new virtual friends:hello:0 -
Morning peeps!
Yay! Friday - last day in a job I've hated for so long (yes, I know I'm lucky to have a job at all) Two weeks school holidays then I start at my new school on April 20th.
Not AF last night BUT definately cutting down. I got home, lovely weather, new food magazine = sit in garden with glass of white. Had a takeaway last night + one glass. Then ........ FINISHED! I've decided to go for the cutting down bit first although I will still keep my AF target in mind.
Feeling much happier this morning.

Another AFD for me - 2 so far .:j Mind you I did go to bed at 9pm. Eastenders put me in a funny mood ( isn't that mad). Glasgow girl well done on not necking back your friends glass of wine. You reaaly had me giggling as I can imagine that I would have been exactly the same in that situation.
Anyway better go and get my shower before I go and get the 3 little monsters up for school . Last school run for 2 weeks :T
I will try and catch up with you all later before the site goes down tonight. Whatever will I do without you.?
Anyway have a good day everyone.

Enjoy your last day . And well done on only having one glass of wine. In my books only having one is harder than having none atall.

Hi BB. Actually, I've got a puncture (well not me, the bike) and a fuzzy head  so not so good today. Got to sort that before set off, busy day no internet so no time to update until I get home, 6-ish. Sorry chaps, poor show here. Am not planning to drink today, but we'll see. Perhaps my horse needs blinkers! Anybody else up for the Grand National tomorrow? I fear they won't let me ride.
Oh, and while I remember, the forums will be down betwen 10pm tonight and some time on Sunday, so we'll be on our own, so to speak. Good luck!!...nothing to see here...0 -
