    Hi All

    Quote for today :-

    Priming the Pump for Inspiration

"The well of Providence is deep. It's the buckets we bring to it that are small" Mary Webb

Taken from 'Simple Abundance' by Sarah Ban Breathnach

The chapter goes on to talk about how our small rituals in life can contribute to our creativity and ultimately help make us better people. For e.g. taking a relaxing bubble bath, learning the words to a poem, researching a piece of history, reading a chapter of a book. All these small chunks of activities can contribute to our wholeness as human beings and inspires us to be more and do more.

    Hi All

Been having a think about the whole AF days thing. I'm not sure how other people are approaching it, but I'm wondering if there is a possiblity that because we are allowing ourselves the AF days, are we then drinking more on the days that we are allowing alcohol and therefore cancelling out the AF days :confused: . I've had this thought before regarding the NSD (No Spend Days) on another thread, and wondered if people are subconciously spending twice as much on the days they have 'allowed' themselves to spend.

I guess I'm thinking that the end result could mean that in terms of units, we are ending up drinking the same amount of units by the end of the month.

Does that make sense - I don't think I'm explaining myself very well.
Do others set a limit of units on their alcohol days or a limit on how many bottles of wine they allow themselves on alcohol days ? or over the month etc ?
I'm just thinking that an 'allowed' drinking day could mean drinking from morning to night, with the feeling that one has stuck to one's target if they have still managed 'x' amount of alcohol free days.

Sorry if this is too rambly a question to answer - guess I'm just sort of thinking out loud and wondering what 'limits' I would be happy with if I choose to cut down rather than give up.

NTC - Day 4 in the bag for me. However, I was VERY close to opening one of those two glass bottles of wine with my spag bol ! I really fancied one as that is what I have always had with spag bol. I have two of these small bottles in the house and one normal size left over from my birthday. I'm unsure what to do with them as yet because I am re-evaluating the whole giving up vs cutting down thing (as you will know from my rambly question above) :rotfl:

  • Sorry about the big sister thing NTC :o

I've been out to a meeting which was held in a pub so I have had one pint today.

In one way I am disappointed that I haven't notched up an AF day as a result, but then on the other hand I am glad I have only had one, I could have had a couple more in the pub, and I could now be drinking here. And that is where I want to be. Moderation, moderation, moderation.

Jo keep up the good work. You seem to be on a roll :A

Ophelia - I am trying to cut down as opposed to giving up. I am doing this in 2 ways - first I reduced the amount of wine I drank in a night in terms of glasses/units for 5 days last week and the last 2 days have been AF.

Until a couple of years ago I was drinking a large V&T followed by a bottle of wine EVERY night followng a very stresful time. I then cut out the V&T and had the bottle of wine for quite some time. Last year I cut down from a whole bottle to 3/4 of a bottle - in 3 x 175 ml glasses [approx 6 units] every night with a few AF days here and there.

The last few days I have cut this again by 1 x 175 ml glass and the last 2 evenings have been my first AF evenings this year.

I am very aware of units these days so I guess it is up to the individual whether or not they end up bingeing on the days they drink to 'compensate' for their AF days  but personally I know I won't because I know I have to cut back for the good of my health [and wealth ........... and calories  :rotfl: ]

I am gong to try to get down to the 'recommended' 14 units week for a woman and stick to it :j

I hear what you are saying
If you don't drink at all, then you won't have this dilemma.
If you find it difficult not to drink, then you are in the right place.
