Hi winebox, I got a load of AF mulled wine from this shop for christmas, it was superb, made a punch and noone noticed the lack of alcohol- http://www.alcoholfree.co.uk/
Haven't tried any of the wines yet but theres a huge selection and the best thing is they look the part- you can just say you bought the wine/beer at Lidls if people don't recognise the brand?
Cheers Eselt0 -

Lurky I don't get the bashing comment it must be my age. Also thanx for the response (:rotfl: x loads) to Jo's post re the walk in centre - I had smiled wryly at it but when I saw your post I saw just how funny it was.
The original comment was from fluffybishop ("You have permission to slap me....")....... the well known euphemism? No?
As my namesake might say... please yourselvesa couple of qu's from confused.com...
1. how do you look at an avvie?
Either look in their profile (click on the username on the left and click view profile), or go in to your own profile, then 'edit options', then in the thread display options section, tick the 'show avatars' box. Then their avatar will appear under their username in each postNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

BB1 & BB2: maybe beachbeth should be BB & budgie should be......budgie
Eselt thanks for link will be on there later. I know there's been debate on here re announcing the non drinking thing; it's such a part of relationship for me & OH I can see why he might be twitchy, like I'm keeping an eye on his drinking, so just for one weekend, if I can, thought I might go "undercover" & not say anything so that afterwards I can say "didn't we have a great time & you never realised I was AF!" Always assuming I haven't cut his *****s off by Sunday night :rotfl:
Anyways, as a reflection on my sadly lacking life (...) I've had a text that Hobbly City (sic) is on early tonight so an emergency situation prevails while I check it out....have a good evening all! (so wot happens to Eastenders? )0 -
You have to completely change your mindset- I now realise what a small part alcohol should play in our lives, but for so long alcohol, all day, every day it was all I knew. Filling time and doing different things at danger times has been a challenge- but because I've got my physical and cognitive energy back I am doing so much more I couldn't be bothered to before- particularly with the children. I can concentrate on reading now, have interesting conversations, go out and get some exercise , do the garden...boring stuff I know, but I have to keep telling myself theres nothing more boring than an old loudmouthed drunk or a hangover.
Hi Eselt
That isnt boring, that's living isnt it? Rather than escaping to a fantasy world. Just speaking about myself, and not generalising, but drinking was definately a 'hobby', so now I intend to be a non drinker also, I need to find other ones. I used to allow a day for a hangover if I knew I was having a big night the night before, what a waste!!
I am sure your children love every second of it and enjoy the time you spend together, so dont be too hard on yourself. How do 'we' get past the stigma that non drinkers are seen as 'boring'?

Re: stationary, I have a real problem with staples. I work in an office but I JUST REFUSE TO DEAL WITH STAPLES. We just don't get on and that is as much as I will say!
Also just thought I'd let you know my little story, I went in to Home Bargains today whilst on my lunch, they had single glasses of wine, red, white and rose the wine was contained in a glass with a sealed lid???? I actually picked up a glass to investigate, put it straight down again though. Reiterated my mantra: alcohol is poison. Price was 4 glasses for three pounds.
Ok off to read the posts now, take care and stay lucky.
Love n hugs Budgie B xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxCherish the ones you love and travel back on the road that brings you home

I found I was getting into the habit of having a few drinks most nights of the week, then 1 or 2 nights a week where I would get hammered. If I told myself in advance I won’t drink on certain days, I would usually get a craving or two as I knew I wasn’t supposed to drink anything.
So I’ve made a simple rule. I’m only allowed to drink on nights when I’ve been to the gym. I can go to the gym as often as I want, but I’m really strict in that if I don’t motivate myself to go I can’t drink a drop that night. I also can’t carry across days if I go to the gym and decide not to drink that night.
It’s worked really well so far and I’ve been doing it since just before New Years, I’m going to the gym about 4 times a week now where as before I would go maybe once or twice.
If I think, right I really fancy a drink tonight I just head down to the gym, the funny thing is almost half the times I visit I don’t want to drink when I get in anymore. My body feels great after a good work-out so I get home and think to myself I’ll give tonight’s drink a miss or maybe have one a bit later, and then more than often don’t bother.0 -
hi all
Well, something snapped this weekend - after yet another almighty bender, a lot of which I don't remember, but plenty of others do, something clicked into place in my head. I am now on 3rd night in a row with no alcohol - don't remember doing that yet this year, so that's whatever I was on plus another 3. Not going to make my target, but I had no idea just how much of a habit the drinking had become! At the moment I just feel terrible - not really feeling any benefits yet!!
Hope all are doing well.

I didn't realise we had 2 BB's!! I don't realise much so it seems
so BB and budgie it will be, I hope I remember but if either of you read something I say to BB and you don't get it then it's probably for the other one :rotfl: least I won't have drink to blame anymore!!
I've decided to go with eselt's idea and say that I am no longer a drinker (with respect to Bis and GC that have their 'just for today' ways of doing it and that's right for them which is great). I was thinking about it on the drive home, I've decided to liken it to either me eating a dodgy prawn or my mum eating pork, both cause horrible things to happen, just like too much beer, either in one night which causes untold grief the next day or just enough beer to do the trick every night which causes untold grief in the long run. My dear old mum constantly tells me that (cue the old girl voice..) 'I like pork, but it just doesn't like me' and that's the way I'm working it. Also if I had a dodgy prawn and was sick as a dog the next day, there is no way I would say 'wow, that was indeed a dodgy prawn, let's have another and see if I can make me feel better!'. Why do I get hammered, then have a hair of the dog the following day?
I don't feel all that deprived tonight cos no one can stop me drinking, it's just I don't like the way it makes me and is controlling me so I shan't bother thanks
