Oooh, I really didn't think you wore glasses....
I have no idea why I thought that, or would think that even :undecided
Oh! Thats bizarre. I hadn't imagined any of you wearing glasses.....and yet I do wear glasses myself. Would imagine that our ideas of what we all look like are a long way from the truth!
GC...am finding your posts quite helpful lately. You're right, we don't post on these threads because we have fantastic lives and we are happy with the way things are going. We post because there are things we want to change, and its good to have support to do that.

Its funny the mental picture we have of people we haven't seen. I imagine Jo to be slim with shoulder length brown hair for some reason and I do imagine barshamhillbilly to have glasses because of his avatar. I just hope no one thinks I look like my avatar!:p0 -

Hi all- I intended to post much earlier but its taken me ages to catch up on all the posts!
Just on the 'one day at a time' debate, I couldn't do it like that, I had to think ahead because I needed to change my whole outlook from 'I am an alcoholic' to 'no thanks, I don't drink'. Whilst I described myself as an alcoholic I felt pathetic and weak and just succumbed to every temptation- after all, everyone expects alcoholics to drink themselves stupid everyday so I wasn't doing anything unexpected or different. When I began to really think of myself as someone who doesn't drink, I seemed to have more willpower somehow, and more pride in myself. You have to completely change your mindset- I now realise what a small part alcohol should play in our lives, but for so long alcohol, all day, every day it was all I knew. Filling time and doing different things at danger times has been a challenge- but because I've got my physical and cognitive energy back I am doing so much more I couldn't be bothered to before- particularly with the children. I can concentrate on reading now, have interesting conversations, go out and get some exercise, do the garden...boring stuff I know, but I have to keep telling myself theres nothing more boring than an old loudmouthed drunk or a hangover.
GC- I think you point you make about habits is spot on, its a fine line between a habit which is hard to break and an addiction.
Hope everyone is OK- theres too many of you to name on here at the moment, but good luck to all. Catch you later0 -
Eselt, that's an interesting point you put forward and it's odd but gave me a sense of excitment thinking that I no longer drink because it's my choice rather than I'm not allowed. Gonna ponder on my drive home tonight and will check back in later.

Lurky I don't get the bashing comment it must be my age. Also thanx for the response (:rotfl: x loads) to Jo's post re the walk in centre - I had smiled wryly at it but when I saw your post I saw just how funny it was.
a couple of qu's from confused.com...
1. how do you look at an avvie? 2. we've got 2 BBs now beachbeth & budget babe
I've just been doing an online shop....coupon for free delivery....& typed into search "alcohol free wine" (that's a first!!!) & it came back with....incontinence pads. So i tried "ame" (remember that name from when pg) & got....abbotts extra strong ale.
I was toying with the idea of buying alch free wine, which I recall tastes like kak, & taking it to OH's at weekend so he doesn't know I'm not drinking. I suggested I might think about being AF for Lent & he was less then complimentary about my potential behaviour...odd, considering that all our "flaming rows" are when I'm p!ssed, don't think we've had a sober argument. But I can see how he might feel awkward if I'm not drinking when he is so thought I might try & do it with an AF bottle & not make a thing about it. As it goes, I can get protection against wetting myself but otherwise no joy.
As it's 10 yrs since I went near AF wine, is there a palatable brand out there?0
