  • Just popping in to say 2/31 alcohol free days. Back to work tomorrow and like others will have to resist the temptation of 'rewarding' myself with a bottle of plonk for getting through the day!

    Greetings all :hello:

Just got up as I have been on nights so not had a beer :D. Been shopping and did not even go down the aisle of desire( The alcohol one not the chemist ;)) and am reliving my youth with a large cold Vimto. Have not had the stuff since I were a kid and that will take the place of beer this month.

Will update total in morning and to those who have succumbed pick yourself dust yourself off and start again. At least you only had the one or a couple. When I had my wobble earlier this week I had 10 cans . Today is a new day.

Good luck to my local team today Gillingham as they are playing Aston Villa in the FA Cup :T

    Hi everyone,

Just been catching up on some posts, I think everyone is doing so well :j

To Lurky please put me down for 3/3 another cross on the calender. Oh and btw I don't usually eat inocent elves. (Honestly),,,

To Shoppy so well done and congrats on your pregnancy as well. :T That is my aim to go out and only drink non alchoholic drinks???

To Miamoo it is alot harder I agree and can honestly say if I hadn't joined this thread I would have been drinking this weekend. We are only on day four it seems alot, lot longer I must say.

I would like to say well done to: MollyPolly on your brilliant achievement of being a/f since April:T Can I please ask: is it any easier now or is it just as hard? I am only on day four, I am just trying to get through this week as best I can.

Oh and Polaroid you did so well to only have 2 drinks, so well done you.:rotfl:

Love and Hugs to everyone, keep up the good work.
    xxxxxx
Cherish the ones you love and travel back on the road that brings you home :)

  • 3/3 for me so far and haven't been too tempted despite somebody waggling a beer at me and saying "what harm is one going to do?", tho' as for some others the challenge will be when I go back to work this week. As I have also resolved not to cycle after drinking anymore, am hoping that will help as I bike into central London to work and have had a few near incidents recently including toppling sideways off bike in front of some cars at traffic lights and near misses with bendy buses (that's a fight I'm never going to win). I know, incredibly stupid. Anyway, not any more! Have also had first full night's sleep for weeks, so feeling rather chipper. Keep going everybody.....

    Hi all!
What a lot of posts in under 24 hrs!! Lots of them funny, too. Well done those who did, start over those who didn't. No self-beatings allowed.

As I was with OH yest (& today) wasn't AF but had far less than usual - not only in quantity but also looked out some wine less strong than usual. So am moderately pleased with how it went. Ususally I have to tape Casualty as well as watch it :o to watch it again at home (& it's like I never saw it before....) but watched it last night & can remember every painful moment!

Nearly made a mistake today tho! The whole point of my WOMO clause is to stop drinking at home alone, & the Sunday tradition here at OH's is that he goes to pub for a pint or three leaving me with my (first) bottle of wine & the crossword...had my hand on the fridge door & realised it's still OMO drinking even tho I'm not at home  . So am here instead. Phew! So hopefully another day of "normal" ie not binge drinking, & AF again tomorrow.

It's 4 years today since I stopped smoking!! I think that's when my wine drinking really took off - as long as I had an alternative drug to fall back on alch was less important (still there in fairly large measures, but not a daily obsession). The drinking pattern used to be sip / puff / puff / sip / puff / sip / sip / puff / puff / puff (you get the gist) but than became sip / sip / sip / gulp / sip / sip / swig etc etc. All because I was determined not to turn to snacking.......

Off to have my 5th mug of tea now. OH will be surprised when he gets back!

Hope you all have the day you would wish on yourselves

P.S. I love Mary Poppins! where's the shame in that? :rotfl:

oops - by well done those who did I meant abstained not drank!
  • I would like to play please! However, i will have to start tomorrow as have almost finished one bottle at lunchtime. Children visiting their dad today so wine helps me sleep to block out the pain.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Will try for 20/31 days for January. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, already sunk.

Yup WB that sounds very familiar. In fact that is where my shameful morning drinking started I reckon. When you give up smoking there is a void and filling that void with alcohol which is what I did means that there are a lot of spaces to fill during the day:o :o My packing in also resulted in over 2 stone weight gain:eek: Need to make sure I dont fill the alcohol void with something else destructive. (Can you become addicted to sad musicals and Dandelion and Burdock:rotfl: ) Seriously I need to make sure it doesn't get filled with food and I end up another 2 stone on.

Happyshopper. well done you. Your friends doing the same eh this is really telling

Anyway welcome to lillibet dripping (fab name:D ) and hope all is well with everyone else.

  • Can you become addicted to sad musicals and Dandelion and Burdock:rotfl:

There are worse things to become addicted to. The 2 litre bottle I got cost 58p and has 4 calories per large wine glass equivalent. So thats like 90% cheaper than wine and goodness only knows how many fewer calories.

At the very least thats a win, win, win situation...

As for sad musicals, I like nothing better than belting out a few old Mary Poppins songs. A particular favourite in the shower is "oh the sun will come out tomorrow..."

    [Ahum] I fear I've said too much...

As far as my sleeping goes...not too good. Feeling tired. Back to work tomorrow and I hope that eventually I will tired enough to drop straight off.

p.s. first trip to a pub for me tomorrow, but gonna hit the diet coke...:p

Reading some of the latest posts, it seems that some people have found day 3 or 4 to be hard. I hope it gets easier, and am sure it will.

What disturbs me is the lack of personal responsibility - 'I had a bad day so had a bottle of wine' or 'The other guy had a case so I had just one can'.

This is dishonest - these circumstances did not pour the alcohol down your throats. You did. Everyone who fell off the wagon took the decision to drink. And you cannot blame anyone but yourselves.

You drank because you wanted a drink, because your mind tells you it makes you feel better. You drank because you are alcoholic, and have a propensity to drink.

Do not beat yourselves up - you have an illness (alcoholism). Accept the illness, and then your recovery becomes much easier.

    Good luck, and god bless
