Hi Everyone, just popping in to try to keep up. I'm not AF at the moment so I've just been out for a lovely long walk in the sunshine to keep at least one of my targets going.

Oh jo, poor you, life sounds so tough at the moment. Keep up the one day at a time and congratulate yourself on each and every AF day.

Miss P, I am married to one of the 'one glass with dinner' variety or a couple of beers at the most. I've said before that sometimes I'll come to use the PC on my way to bed and find a half drunk glass of wine on the side and OH tucked up and fast asleep! That would be totally unthinkable for me. This is why I find the AF days idea suits me well. If I'm having a drink I don't want it spoiled by worrying that it's limited.

Beachbeth, TV drinking is a trigger I have to fight hard. Fortunately I'm out to supper on Tuesday so I'll be able to share a drink with Jac as I'm going to catch Holby later!!

Enjoy the rest of today all, hope you're having fun!

  • Greetings, fellow AFFsters. One of the quiet ones checking in. I'm not a big namechecker, but I do read every post and am impressed by the way that so many of you talk about what life is chucking at you or has chucked at you in the past with such humour and candour. I genuinely am finding myself rooting for people on here, which is not something I would have thought very likely before this year. (I'm not really a 'social networker' - MSN, facebook, myspace not my kind of thing. The thought of Twitter makes me cringe). I've barely posted in the 5 years I've been registered on MSE, and most of them have been on this thread since the start of January. You've inspired me!

Anyway, enough about you ;). I'm doing alright on the old poison front really, things are conspiring a bit against me at the moment but will have managed to clock up 15 AFDs by tomorrow assuming I don't succumb today. I really wanted to absolutely smash my target (16), but I guess I should be pleased that I'm likely to achieve it (shouldn't count chickens, I know). I met a friend for a drink last week and was planning to be AF (esp as was on my bike) but when I arrived they'd already bought me a pint and I just couldn't bring myself to be rude and refuse. And then another day, somebody handed me a glass of something and I just drank it without thinking, and I hadn't planned to drink that day at all. Constant vigilance seems to be required. But I suppose I should be happy that consumption has at least been moderate apart from one rather large blip last weekend. I've been thinking about abstaining totally, but as somebody else said about 'the buzz', that's what I miss when not drinking. I don't really like the taste of most drinks v. much but I love that feeling after 2-3 glasses of wine or a couple of large G&Ts or 3 pints so I guess I'm not likely to give up, or at least not yet. Moderation, moderation, moderation, moderation.

Back to lurkdom. Look after yourselves everybody.

Just eaten a huge chicken roast, covered in chilli chutney that a S.African colleague gave me which is big over there made by Mrs Balls, don't know if any of you have tried it but bloomin eck it's good!

Just about to put the kids to bed and get a mint feast out, drank over half my bottle of squash. Feeling a bit irritable but expected I s'pose

Happyshopper, nice of you to drop by again :) stay out of lurkdom and post more often :D

Thanks BB. Can't help you tho', the first rule of Lurkdom is - you do not talk about Lurkdom. (With apologies to Tyler Durden).

Jo1972, you sound like an amazing cook! I can't cook at all when I've been drinking, it always ends up all over the floor, hob, sofa, me. For some reason I laughed heartily at "Mrs Balls", I'm so juvenile.

Right I really am going now. Cheerio!

Thanks Hp but I am not giving up, now if this doesn't work then I will admit defeat and throw in the towel.
Apologies in advance but it was done in a hurry. :rotfl:

    ITS FOR: DEAR LURKY!

THERE IS A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE GO TO BE
IT IS KNOW AS THE LAND OF LURKDOM TO YOU AND ME
ITS CAREFULLY HIDDEN AWAY FROM PRYING EYES
I AM TOLD BY A FRIEND THAT, THAT IS WHERE OUR DEAR LURKY LIES

AND THOUGH WE MAY TRY TO SET HIM FREE
IT SEEMS FOR NOW IT IS WHERE HE WANTS TO BE
SO WE ASK HIM TO COME BACK AND JUST SEE
HOW MUCH WE MISS HIM WHEN WE ARE ALL TRYING TO: STAY ALCOHOL FREE

Thought we could all do with cheering up, HP have you really gone? (Are you sure :-)

    Lots love everyone. Budgie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Hello everyone.....I'm back.
Not been anywhere really just had a mad busy weekend moving DD2 into her own place after her break up with partner and also Nieces 18th birthday party....
Friday DD1 got totally !!!!!! and had to be taken home from town by DD2...good job they look after each other:rolleyes:
When I saw how ill and hungover she was on Saturday it just reinforced my resolve never to feel like that again,LOL.

Last night at the party I sat and watched as my sister (who lives away so I dont see her very much) turned into a silly loudmouthed woman who looked about ten years older than me ....although she is eight years younger:eek: .
Everyone was talking C##p and I couldnt wait to leave...
I watched lots of eighteen year olds drinking and dancing and having a really good time but I was worried for them....the amounts that they drink and the speed they drink it......there are problems ahead for alot of them.
Why oh Why cant somebody do something about this alcohol problem that most of the country seems to have!!!
Anyway sorry for the ramble ...hope you are all ok.
Especially you Jo....Please let this be YOUR time....your little ones need you sober ALL of the time.
    Take care everyone.

    LURKY....where are you????

    Love Mollypollyxxxx

Until we change ourselves, the compulsion to drink will remain with us. We are the problem, and we drink to escape the problem.
Cut out the drink, and you still have the problem which is yourself. That's why we need to change, and when you do, desire to drink will disappear.

(This is what I have experienced)

    How do we change????
I hope I experience this soon.Even though its nearly a year now ,that WANT is still there, always Lurking.I was even thinking of celebrating my year of being alcohol free by having a glass of bubbly. How Mad is that:eek:
