While there are similarities between the 2, I think that one has to approach the giving up/cutting down with alcohol differently to nicotine
Just my theory. I could do nicotine by going cold turkey, alcohol is one very differnt beast altogether.
Alcohol helped me change the way I was feeling, but ciggies have never done that.
Good luck anyway, but you should maybe use Carr as one of the methods you employ to help you quit, not put all your eggs in that one basket
Couldn't agree more, great post. Nicotine doesn't change your mood, make you aggressive, make you argumentative, give you hangovers, get you into fights, make you miss work, make you so selfish you ignore the ones you love- yeah its certainly a different beast- if only the same sort of money was spent on alchohol services as for quitting cigarettes eh?
Hope everyone is OK tonight- especially the people on here with little ones who are a bit stressed- its not for long guys, hang in there.
12/12/ for me please winebox- best of luck everyone.0 -

Still wake up in the night to pay a visit though but thats not so bad...:o
TRC
That's no surprise for me as instead of alcohol I end up drinking copious amounts of water or tea on AF days.
Not AF tonight, been out for meeting with friends and decided to drink after. Goodnight all and thanks for support earlier.0 -
Morning all
Just a quickie as have to shoot out the door soon!
Winebox 11 for me please!
Thanks everyone re the support about toddlers. He's been a little bit better the last couple of days....very much all for his mummy which is rather nice:D
Just re-reading Allen Carr book....I mentioned to someone else that if you extract the pertinent points from it and focus on them, and then ignore the other rambling :rotfl: , there are some valid points which make you think. GC you may be right in saying use it as one of several methods.
Also doing my Paul McKenna book / cd. A real glutton for punishment me. Nice to have an excuse to lay down with my eyes closed for half hour though.....what, I'm meant to LISTEN to the cd????? Damn! :rotfl:
Anyway, will catch up later. Have good Fridays all!!

Good morning everyone.Hope you are all ok.
Its lovely and sunny here this morning...think I need to get out there and get rid of some SAD.
Re the Allen Carr books...I have found my book'No more Hangovers' to be my lifesaver...I know he rambles quite a bit but there is alot of sense written there and I still read mine regularly. As has been said it is more geared to giving up than cutting down but I think even for 'cutting downers' it would make you think before you drink ....and so help you to cut down.
Well done to everyone on here...even those who are not doing too well.At least we are TRYING to make some small difference .....
As Allen Carr says 'What could possibly be more important than the length and quality of your future life?
Keep up the good work and Take Care of YOU.

8 for me please winebox:j
Quite pleased with my 8th night. I had a friend staying over for dinner and a goss. and despite my mate deciding to see off a bottle of white I stayed on Becks Af and dandelion and burdock :rotfl: I am going away for a few days next week and really wanted to "bank" some days but didn't expect last night to be one.
I love Paul McKenna stuff and I reckon miss piggy you did it right by not "listening" I think its supposed to hit your unconscious so sleep away:D
GP , love Tolberone too along with mini daim bars they remind me of holiday airports:drool:
Have a good friday all and remember to get those valentines in the post:D29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

Exactly right - he was hugely instrumental in me stopping smoking 4 yrs ago but I was very disappointed that he tries to employ the same arguments for alcohol, it doesn't work (for me; hope he's helping others though!).
Then again MP swears by him - so to speak - so there you go. Not sure what my point is now!!
BTW TRC thank you for the colourful AFD note!0 -
Hi everyone,
Hope you are all well and in good spirits?
Winebox Thankyou for updating the scores I am on 12 af days, but I didn't get a chance to post yesterday with one thing and another. Glad to hear your little dog has had its operation, hope you are keeping well? Hugs xxx
Patchy and Fedup hope you are both feeling better? Take Care and sending you both hugs. xxx
Gc well done on the smoking front, you are doing really well. Take care xxx
I'll check in later to see how everyone is doing?
I feel so tired today and I have got to say that I am not the picture of health that I was hoping for when I decided to cut out alcohol. But I keep telling myself that if I were still drinking I would look even worse.
Take Care everyone and good luck for the weekend.
