    Hi all

RugbyCoach: regarding your dilemma about whether to drink on Saturday. I, personally, would drink, and just enjoy myself, because in your shoes I would be so chuffed that I'd managed 30 out of 31 days.

Thank you for this advice, I think this is what I will do.

HOWEVER - the acid test is the following night isn't it? And only you know yourself well enough to know whether you could switch back to being alco free after Saturday. That's the problem, I think; not the drinking on the Saturday, but the climbing back on the wagon and superglueing yourself there after that night out.

Absolutely but I will aim for 30/31 and I'm sure there will be a willing band with Superglue, sticky plaster, etc at the ready, if necessary.:D

I'm managing right now to have a good run of alco free days, and then controlled drinking on a night or two. These are planned, and I only have the planned amount of drink in the house, and its never more than 5 units. It is difficult though. Luckily, I've managed to go back to my next stretch of no drinking without a problem. SO FAR. But I have to take into account that I'm in an ok place right now emotionally, and if that changes, I may well find that not drinking anything at all - and just getting used to being alco free is easier.

:T Thats what I want to do in Feb. Resume control. It can be done

Sorry, I'm waffling - at the end of the day, you have to decide whether you have the resolve to resume with the no drinking plan after Saturday.

Good luck whatever you do and enjoy yourself.

Thanks again. You can waffle away as far as I am concerned:rotfl:

    Nite nite BB, sleep tight

bis - know exactly what you mean...why do i BOTHER??!!!! i am laughing now but i wasnt at 5pm when i had just spent 1 hour cooking tea only for my daughter to spill her whole (untouched) plate all over the carpet...phone ringing, doorbell going, ex ranting and raving, fire broken.....ah....seems trivial now..but at the time...
at least i am drinking a cup of herbal tea now and not the litre of wine i did fancy!

GP you are doing great. to break one cycle is hard enough, but to do both, thats brilliant.

speaking of books, i mentioned this on the other thread but i read "A million little pieces" by james frey and "what did i do last night?". The first is really heavy but good and the second is heavy but also funny. both are true stories so not really self help.
i ve not read rachaels holiday, i am going to look for that. i am reading "eat, pray, Love" at the moment which i am really into, it isnt about drinking but life itself.

hope you all sleep well xxxx
    :D

I don't know if anyone else is doing this on here but I haven't told anyone else I'm doing this challenge (except all of you, of course!!).

OH knows I'm cutting down and is very supportive and proud of me but even he doesn't know I have an actual target to hit. Today I'm really pleased with myself. I went out to lunch with OH and old friends I hadn't seen for a while. They are old partners in crime, we've sunk many a crate of red together. Today when they asked what I was drinking I said WATER! They looked shocked but I said I planned to drive OH home. He looked shocked too because he normally drives when we're out. However I stuck to my guns, had still water, then a fizzy water and then a coffee. Amazing! This was an extra lunch date that I hadn't planned for in my AF target so I had to do it. So that's 9/13 AF days done.

I'm not finding it easy but I'm determined. Next month I think I'm going to give myself some leeway in case any unexpected invitations come my way. My aim is not to drink on 'ordinary' evenings at home, just when I'm out and at weekends.

Read the posts about good books. Has anyone read Tony Adam's book. I think it's called 'Addicted'. I wasn't such a heavy drinker when I read it but I remember being horrified at his lack of control when he'd been drinking.

Well done all of you, good to see more new faces.

Oh and I know it's a bit late in the day but Happy Birthday GP, hope it's been a good one!
  • This is a fast moving thread.............................................

    Congratulations all.:T

    Just some thoughts:

As this is a money saving site should the February AFF list include money saved?

I also get through lots of 2 litre fizzy drinks from Tesco. Favourites are cloudy lemonade and fiery ginger beer.

For those wanting to give up/cut down I highly recommend Living Sober that can be found on Amazon.

One minute, one hour, one day at a time and..............................

    Good Luck.

good morning everyone - lovely reading everyone's posts, everyone seems so up beat at the moment about being AF, even when life is being a bit carp.

I had another AF day yesterday evening - watched an episode of Life on Mars with a cup of tea and a handful of M&Ms (and DH). I didn't see it on the TV but got given the DVDS - I'm now developing a bit of a thing for John Simm!
So mr Lurky, an extra day for me please.

    Have a good day

"Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life."

I saw that Mrs Lurky was on the score chart, (BB aka Hetty Wainthrop) Mysteriously she has now changed her name to: Esther Mcvittie? Draw your own conclusions?

Now that she's out of the cage BB, its only fair to use her proper username :D

On that note Mrs Lurky perhaps you could pm Mrs Bhb she does a wicked frying pan around the head, as poor Mr Bhb can tell you, that is when the ringing in his ears stops.

:naughty::naughty::naughty: don't go giving her ideas, BB :o:o

:DNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh :D

The WOMO clause was introduced for the AFJ challenge. It stands for When On My Own....... ;)

I said that without moving my lips!!

Biscotte the idea behind the womo clause is to only drink socially, ie in company, cos I don't want to give up wine but the ritualistic every single night solo drinking was not even enjoyable any more as well as costly to my health & my purse!!
