Morning everyone! The sun's shining here and it's a lovely morning. Funny how awake I feel in the morning these days! It used to take until lunchtime to wake up properly in the bad old days!
Happy Birthday GP, hope you have a great day!
Welcome GlasgowGirl!
Mr L, can you add another AF day on to my tally please.0 -

Just thought I'd look in on this thread as I've decided to give up alcohol for life.
I'm 21 and only drink socially/ with a meal/ on a night out. But have decided it costs me too much both moneywise and also in pain the next day. So I'm giving myself a trail without alcohol to see if I can have a good time without it. I figure by making this change now it will help me throughout the rest of my life
I've been alcohol free since the 10th and since then have had a movie night with friends and gone to the pub for 6 hours both where I would have usually drunk, so I figure I've saved myself £15 or so just on those two days. I think my real test will be the last sat of this month which is a big night out for me.
On the upside a friend has been alcohol free since NY and since she drank a lot more then me she has saved so much money and is looking a lot healthier, so proud of her, and so glad we can support each other on nights out!!
Very glad of this thread, well done to everyone so far!!:ASaving for my future...0 -
Hi all- happy birthday GP and welcome glasgowgirl and misskeepcounting.
Winebox- hope you are feeling a bit better today. I remember having to clear my mums house when she died- she was a real hoarder and had kept every photo and every card she'd ever had, loads of nik-naks and clutter, and it took ages to go through everything. When I finished I went home and vowed I would never want my kids to have to sort my junk out for me so I completely decluttered and put all my papers in order, even threw away loads of clothes- I reckon apart from furniture and big stuff you can get everything I own in a suitcase now, so noone will have to clear up my mess when I'm gone. Sounds a bit morbid but sorting stuff out is heartbreaking enough without having to wade through days of carp clearing out someone elses clutter. I think you are being amazingly strong winebox- its such a difficult time for you, keep your chin up- hugs.
Lurky, can you put me down for 19/20 please? I know you're busy though, what with Mrs Lurky being on the run- you must be very afraid!!!!
Best of luck today everyone, lets all celebrate GP's birthday with a group D &B? (mind you I drink the sugar free version- does that count or should I be drinking the full fat version?)0 -
Hi all
RugbyCoach: regarding your dilemma about whether to drink on Saturday. I, personally, would drink, and just enjoy myself, because in your shoes I would be so chuffed that I'd managed 30 out of 31 days. HOWEVER - the acid test is the following night isn't it? And only you know yourself well enough to know whether you could switch back to being alco free after Saturday. That's the problem, I think; not the drinking on the Saturday, but the climbing back on the wagon and superglueing yourself there after that night out.
I'm managing right now to have a good run of alco free days, and then controlled drinking on a night or two. These are planned, and I only have the planned amount of drink in the house, and its never more than 5 units. It is difficult though. Luckily, I've managed to go back to my next stretch of no drinking without a problem. SO FAR. But I have to take into account that I'm in an ok place right now emotionally, and if that changes, I may well find that not drinking anything at all - and just getting used to being alco free is easier.
Sorry, I'm waffling - at the end of the day, you have to decide whether you have the resolve to resume with the no drinking plan after Saturday.
Good luck whatever you do and enjoy yourself.

Hi all, feeling carp today serves me right! Ever so ever so tired. Just got back from blood doning so there goes a pint of WB finest. Not sure of the %......
many happies to GP, welcome to gg & to mkc
Cross that I spoiled womo record yesterday!
Forgot to say last Friday about the recycling....for a long time there were usually 20 wine bottles give or take, erm, one, in my recycling box as in the normal run of things I am home 10 days in a fortnight, but last week there was only one which was the one I'd shared with OH!! That felt good - for the first time EVER I could fit the newspapers into the recycling box. The blokes who collect it probably think the old soak who used to live here has moved. Won't be so good the next time cos had friends round last Fri & then there was last night but there won't be 20!! Hopefully never again.
Anyways, hope you're all well today & feeling strong. I went through about 3000 photos last night & had forgotten how very slim I once was...have kept a couple of pix out to inspire me -one on the wine rack one on the fridge!0 -
WB, I've been trying to workout what womo and your signature mean - I must have missed the relevant post - what is it?0
