  • Just got back from the shop with a restock of my soft drinks and wanted to let Lurkio know that as well as the usual suspects there is also Tizer, Irn Bru, Non alcoholic bitter shandy, cherryade, Dr Pepper, red bull, and of course lucozade. I was like a kid in a sweet shop:D :D Got a large selection but only 2 bottles of D&B as the shelf was nearly empty:eek:  do you all live near me:D Anyway I am giving the little Dandelion pickers and the wee Burdock makers (what the heck is Burdock anyway) a few days to restock the shelves by choosing some Lilt (thanks for that idea Jo:rolleyes: ),Tizer and some non alcoholic Becks. Cant believe how much cheaper my shopping is without the usual quota of wine vodka and baileys:j :j

Anyway sorry for the waffle best get back to some work

edited to add - Burdock is any of a group of biennial thistles in the genus Arctium, family Asteraceae. Native to the Old World, several species have been widely introduced worldwide. Google is my friend

it's funny...when you shift to the non-alcho fizzy stuff, it's so much cheaper.

didn't meant to cause concern earlier...it was just something that Mrs Bis said a while ago about everything seeming fine when I post on here and it may make people think my life's sorted. She and I both know what we have to do to fix the hole and are doing our best to do that. It is manageable as long as I stay strong and stick to what needs to be done and don't succumb. It's not a crisis as such, just a long-term result of what happened. I'm just thankful that I'm on the right path with the right woman and the right people and there is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel.

    take care and stay true.

I'm another trying to cut down with a full drinks cupboard and an OH (although very complimentary and supportive) who's still drinking. Fortunately he is mostly on beer (which I don't do).

Today is a drinking day for me (allowed for and planned into target). Have just enjoyed a boozy lunch and could do with a sleep (still sleeping really badly on AF days). Well done to all of you, although I'l keep lurking through the evenng as it's only way to keep up with this thread!

aw sorry Fay thanks for looking though:o thats not sad at all I am a real booklover too and have them on every subject I can think of.

Which reminds me I was passing my book shelf the other day and remembered a book that made me start to think about my drinking. Its a fiction book Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes and its a story of alcohol recovery. Took me another few years after reading it to do something about it but I remember it really striking some chords. Does anyone recommend any other books ( I have alan carr)

Going to watch history in the making now with a pint of tea:T Hope everyone is good.

Heres a picture of a burdock for saddos like me who are interested!!

  • Hi everyone:hello:

I've read "Rachel's Holiday," and it does strike a few chords, but is also very funny too. If you want a "heavy" book about alcohol, then get a bunch of tissues and grab a copy of "The woman who walked into doors" and also "Paula Spencer" by Roddy Doyle. Sad and very true to life, the first focuses on a woman beaten by her partner (fuelled by drink) and the second, her life in later years as a recovering acoholic with an alcoholic daughter. Neither are enjoyable in the true sense of the word but they are both sobering (sorry!) reads and wonderfully written.

Anyway - my twin daughters are 14 today! So we are off to a Mex Tex restaurant later, and I'm going to allow myself one drink! Just one. Then I shall return home and hit the Beckies Alcofrees!

Since the New Year, I have saved at least £60 by not drinking! Although the Becks (whilst on offer at Tescos) is well under £3 for 6, and I'm getting through a couple a night - so probably I've saved about £40!

Also, I feel better. The nightmares have gone (weird, vivid dreams, nonsensical), and I'm sleeping better. I have more energy (almost a bit hyper sometimes - but that probably relates to the anxiety issues I had which I was on medication for), and I think my skin looks better and my eyes are clearer. And I've started jogging and swimming again, which also chills me out mentally.

So you guys, if you start to feel like its all an uphill struggle - don't think about how far you have to go - think about all you've achieved over the past 3 weeks. Late last week I went through the "what's the point - lifes a drag without a drink" phase, but I got through it ok and now feel OK again - so one step at a time works for me.

Thanks everyone for being here - it means loads.

I don't yet know what February holds for my targets.... I shall see when I get there (or when I think of a suitably difficult range of targets for winebox :rotfl: :rotfl: )

measuring our total units consumed could work in a nice bar graph...
