I would've thought that if I owed someone money that they'd have wrote to me before now.
The thing which makes me suspicious is city and capiatl debts are both for same amount £2171-have they made a mistake do you think or is it just a weird coincidence?.....Dont know why they have my husbands name, dont remember that either but I'll have to investigate further to find out, then look to see if any
Hello Brain. Welcome to the wacky world of PAD. :hello:
I'm fairly new to tackling the debts but have an idea... I wonder whether getting hold of your credit report would shed some light on the amounts owed. I'm guessing they might show as unsatisfied or something and you can pinpoint who you owe to?
I might be talking nonsense, in which case I'm sure one of the friendly bods on here will put me right....
But, if they don't show up at least you can check everything else on there and it only costs £2 to get hold of.
Keep posting and let us know how you get on. Won't take long to go from this...:wall: to this...:j You can do it !!Debt Free 25th August 2010 with PAD !!TARGETS ::D

Thanks for being so kind but I honestly dont know. It was 7 years ago, I had post natal depression, missed my work, missed my friends, missed my independance and thought spending would cheer me up-but i wasn't earning anything. I thought I only ever had one creditcard but back thens it a bit of a blur to me. Its possible I had 2 credit cards and am completly unaware of it-my husband was not happy when that was my answer last night but its true-I distinctly remember had capital one but dont remember a citi card, but have been paying cabot for a citi card but these companies sell accounts and change names backwards and forwards i found it hard to keep up!! I also hid the debt for a long time, robbing peter to pay paul and hiding/binning letters, by the time I got round to facing upto them I could only deal with the letters I had in my possession, but that was 7 years ago, I would've thought that if I owed someone money that they'd have wrote to me before now.

Dont know why they have my husbands name, dont remember that either but I'll have to investigate further to find out, then look to see if any charges are included-which I'm guessing i can request be taken off-unless time was too long ago, but I dont quite understand the PPI thing yet.
TomTomBeanie- Thanks for the welcome, but dont feel bad-I sooo deserve that name
NB - please don't be hard on yourself - i've been there.
There are lots of things to look at here. I have had lots of debt collectors dealing with my accounts in the past. 2 years ago i was at rock bottom. I found this site 1st and from this i found consumer action group (just google the name as i'm not sure if i can put a link here). That is the forum that taught me about my legal rights. There's lots of info there and lots of helpful people. There are also template letters that can be used to send to creditiors / debt collectors. That helped me to get control of my debt and now i am here focusing on clearing it. The same sort of info may be on this site, so i apologise if it is. I've just not come across it.
Things to consider:
If a debt is more than 7 years old and hasn't been acknowledged by the debtor (ie you) it is statute barred. Therefore creditors can't collect on it.
To collect on a debt, they must be able to provide you with a copy of the original credit agreement, signed by you, with the correct terms and conditions attached.
If you write to them do not give anything away. I would suggest you look for a template letter for a consumer credit agreement request (CCA) (on this site or the other one i mentioned) and start from there. Always state that you do not acknowledge any debt to the company.
Keep shouting. I am still registered to the other forum but don't go on there very often at all at the moment. If you join up let me know and i will go back and look out for you xxOne step at a time0 -

I have my credit report and that adds even more confusion...according to it I have 3 credit card accounts, one to kingshill-who i've never heard of listing the evil said £2171 balance-current balance £520-ref number matches one I pay to Cabot financial
one for citifinancial which says settled-zero balance
and another for citifinancial which also says settled zero balance
peculiar thing is they all have exactly the same start date?? The plot thickens me thinks!!0 -

Thanks ever so much,
I've emailed them-very discreetly and said I do not know what it is they are chasing and have asked for copies of documentation to be sent, I shall persevere to get this sorted, I find though its not only draining but very time consuming, I hope I can get to the bottom of it, I was getting sooo excited to as was starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!!0 -
