Hi everyone. No snow here but very frosty! Took ages to clear the windscreen to be able to get to work this morning. It's so hard to swap the pyjama days for work clothes again!! And to have to put makeup on!

I had a nice surprise this morning. Although we have large debts I put £1300 into a cash ISA last March to cover our rent and council tax for 2 months if either of us lost our jobs. I check the account today and they've paid us £54 interest! Although it's a savings account I'd forgotten that we'd receive interest (so used to paying interest!) so it was a lovely surprise. Will leave it there to accrue more!

Several of our payments have come out today but will put an extra £5 into the jar towards my PAD. OH thinks it's strange that I physically put £5 into a jar in the cupboard and doesn't know why I don't just leave it in my purse til I pay it into the bank .... I know why! Anyway it's nice to physically put it there and know it's going to reduce the debt at the end of the week. I'm looking forward to Friday to make my payment....... which of the nasty cards will I choose first. I know Martin would insist it's the one with the highest interest but I think I'll tackle one of the smaller ones first for the buzz of clearing a card! I'll build up to the 'big ones'.

Hope all are having a good day. Started the diet today too - 43lbs to lose but not in a rush. Has anyone seen the 'change4life' advert with the plasticine people talking about healthy eating for our kids. It's really good and has even got my kids saying they want to switch to lower fat foods ... amazing! Look out for it as it is thought provoking.

Good luck with your PAD's (and diets). Better do some more work now!

Well done almar with your weight loss, thats a great start!! And good luck to everyone else weighing in today. I really could do with losing about a stone but i have no motivation to do so!!

So today have paid £3 to HSBC CC.

Fag Ash Lil - i know what you mean about snow, i love it too!!! But unfortuntaly havent had any yet.

Clearing_out_my_pockets - wow that is an impressive house deposit you have there. Hopefully by the end of the year i will be in a position to start saving for a house.

Sazzledazzle - that sounds like a good idea with your savings account. I too have an e savings account and every couple of days transfer a pound or two to it for our holiday in the summer.

Hope everyone else has had a good day!!

  • Thanks, Flower08. I know it looks impressive, but when you consider that lenders now want a minimum of 10% deposit, it means I can only afford a £102,500 house - not easy!

I know it doesn't make financial sense to have savings as well as debt. Most people say use the savings to clear the debt BUT if I have a savings acct that pays interest and a credit card that's 0% that I don't spend on, it makes more sense to me to get a deposit saved up seeing as banks want larger and larger deposits now.

that makes sense. i am working along similar lines - as you can see in my signature, we owe both DS1 and DS2 a chunk of money. however, although they have lost a bit of interest from the bank (which we will make up for with an extra bit put back!), it was the best way for us to borrow at the time. i am working on saving for our holiday this summer (flights paid for but need spends for 5 weeks in US at my parents) as well, but going with the theory that none of our debts are costing us as such (apart from the bit extra for interest lost) this works for me.

me again! 1.05 to PAD today and a no spend day :j. how lovely to be back in a semi-normal routine today, i bounced out of bed at 6.45am and have had quite a good time since. had coffee and chat HSchat.gif with two friends (one am, one pm) which was great as haven't felt very social of late...

weighed myself today. not quite the moment i had pictured...i had lost 1/8 of a pound! (fancy salter electronic scales, very precise worse luck). so i think until i lose at least a whole pound, i won't be updating my signature. 1/8 of a pound is probably just a large hot drink so no doubt i've gained it back already today:rotfl::rotfl:

happy monday to everyone. stay warm (car didn't actually defrost at all today :( )xx
