Just made todays PAD... happy in knowing that the balance on my HSBC CC is coming down.
Looking forward to next salary (28th Feb) as I'll be able to pay another £144 off (due to no payment required for Council Tax).
Happy days.
Todays PAD = £10.030 -
Ps. Its a pity Paul cant offer Nationwide window cleaning - with all the custom he'd get from this forum x
Interesting... I've been thinking of offering Window Cleaning on my street. About 36 houses in total so if I got half of those and charged £8 then on a monthly clean, that'd be £144/mth (before tax etc).
I clean my own windows and do a good job so I can't see it being too much of a difficult thing to do.
I know there are far more advanced ways of cleaning windows, but for me it'd be the traditional bucket and soap and a shammy leather.0 -
Well done Wee bag  - it must be an amazing feeling clearing a card...I can't wait to do it!!
PAD £10.00 today to my dad.
xx

Me again!!!
Went out at lunch (didn't buy anything - bought my lunch from home) and found a whole 6p - now thats in my jar!
My DD's would die of shame - "oh mum do you have too" is all I get if either of them are with me!
Also mum gave me a couple of old phones to recycle - (she normally just chucks 'em in the bin - I ask you!!) So hopefully should be able to add a bit more to the pot soon.
Quidco payout today too but will be using this against the chq's - as if I can avoid renewing them I save £14 per chq!

Well I do pop up the A1 once every year or two to visit sis and nephew in Co. Durham. I was cleaning her windows when I was staying up there and a local window cleaner gave me a dirty look (they seem to believe in having their own "patches" up there). So as I didn't want my van to be at risk, I made conversation with him and made sure I slipped into it that I was only on holiday and cleaning my sis's windows. I suggested he give her a call when they were getting dirty again. So if he was thinking of immobilising my van, at least that prevented it.
Anyway, people on here would probably try to haggle down my price.

It's not the act of cleaning the windows that is the difficult bit. It's more about being prepared to do something day in, day out, that can sometimes become mind numbingly boring. It's also about getting the right sort of work and having reliable customers. You only need a relatively small number of customers who have poor access to the rear who insist on individual appointments, or too frequently say "Not today thanks !!" or delay paying (even worse, a very tiny minority rip you off completely). That's the hard bit - honing your business into a finely tuned instrument with a low hassle structure that gives a good financial return for your efforts. It can take years to achieve this. In the first year, I earmarked at least 30 customers for the drop when I no longer needed them. You have to be a bit ruthless about it if you want to make decent money. Ruthlessness does not come to me naturally. As my debt levels have climbed (not due to being a window cleaner incidentally - there were other personal issues) I have become a bit concerned at times that I may eventually lose my home. So I ended up coigning a little saying for myself. It is "Be ruthless or be roofless"
After about 7 years of doing it, I felt that all my early and original work was way underpriced because it's difficult to know what to charge at first. I GAVE AWAY (not sold) work that was worth over £500 a month. I did this because it was getting in the way of me doing another £500s worth that I could literally do in half the time.
A couple of tips for you. Don't use chamois leather. Use a squeegee (12 inch channel with soft rubber), 14 inch applicator, and scrim (grade 1 stitched). If you can't use a squeegee effectively - practice !! Once you have learned to use a squeegee at a fast pace with very few mistakes, you may even consider giving up your day job. It's not a great skill but there is definitely a knack to doing it at speed whilst doing a job of acceptable quality.
Another tip is that neighbours are always (after relatives) the very worst customers. There is a saying that familiarity breeds contempt. Need I say more?
Have fun. You will make loads of mistakes at first. The fun bit is when you can look back and laugh at them.0 -
Paul - you're probably right about us all knocking the price down, we'd want bogoff, a loyalty scheme and 50% off. You'd end up paying us!!!0
