Thanks, Pippa. Lots and lots of love to you; my thoughts will be with you and your friend's family during these dark days and, of course, on Friday.

Morning all.
welcome to all newbies - i am sure that you will just love it here (mostly) - you may find that you become a little obsessive about yarn and making stuff, but i am sure that your partners will learn to deal with it in due course, as mine has.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY - kathy (for yesterday) - sorry that its late! hope that you had a fabulous day, and that its one you will remember for the rest of the year.
i didn't look at the 'puter yesterday as i thought i would get my "jobs" done in the morning and have the afternoon at leisure, but after my little venture into the wool shop (where i was forced to buy some wool - more about that in a sec), hubby phoned to say that he had been sent home from work by their nursing director - he works in the nhs - as he was not looking very well, and guess what - the 5th migrane in 6 days! i dont know what to do for him any more, i think its getting quite serious.
anyway, went into the wool shop (which is local, but about 50p - £1 a ball more expensive than kemps) and he was really trying to sell me stuff. then i spotted some mohair that was on sale, and i thought that kathy had said she did the ruffled scarf in that - so i decided i would buy it and see how it went. not the nicest stuff to work with when you are doing your first row in crochet, but it works up beautifully and i am rather proud of it! i have nearly finished it (am doing 6 rows, rather than the 4 they recommend) and then my MIL's first christmas present will be completed. i also want to make her the ripple shawl on the lion brand website for christmas.
shelley, i have found a pattern on the lion brand website for little christmas stockings (crocheted) so i will give them a try. if they work out, i will send them to you.
ladies, perhaps we can all go further south to our house in france - there are a number of spiders, but most of them are teeny-tiny (although there are a couple of biggies, but they keep away from everything), there are 9 horses that graze our land (from end of june to end of september) there is a lovely view of the pyrenees and also one of the lovely forest below our house and up the next valley. not sure where you will sleep, but i am sure in time we can convert the storage area under the house into some acceptable accommodation with a few sun tubes - and its much cooler there than anywhere else. kathy and jean are going to have to provide the jams, curds and stuff, but i can do a mean pasta sauce and also a good pesto dish, so you shouldn't starve!
have a lovely day everyone, i believe its going to be 27 degrees in london, but, the doubting thomas that i am wants proof before i believe it!
happy knitting/crocheting ... did you know that crochet means hook in french?

Morning all.
Still going strong on first cardi- expect to be finished today.
Chalky those blankets are lovely. I made a blanket of squares a few years back but some of the stitching keeping the squares together has come apart. At some point will need to get it out from under the bed and re-sew. Some of the squares were knitted by me and some by mum. The leftover squares I gave (via freecycle) to local cats protection for making into kitty blankies!
Also I am very impressed by how many things most of you have knitted
:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T.
Can I ask where most of you buy wool, especially for bigger projects ? We have a couple of good local shops, I used to use John Lewis when I lived south (live in Orkney now), do people use online stores ?
Ok, hope I am not waffling/posting too much, I will soon hopefully fit in with the rest of the thread.

No such thing as too much! A lot of us use Kemps wool shop or readicut sometimes have good offers - both are online and have reasonable postage (about 3 quid for mainland I think) but not sure how much it would be to Orkney. My house is definitely messier since joining this thread - be warned!
I hope my house might get a bit tidier for a wee while, as I use up the wool stock I have! Of course as I use some I will have to buy some more! Will check out those places you mention

Hi all. DPixie - can I come, too, even though I am already in France?!! Sounds wonderful having a view of the Pyrenees.
I didn't make my ruffle scarf in mohair - I bet you've found it a struggle. I used a DK but it's like a thick crochet cotton, in olive green, with a slight sheen to it. I've posted a couple of photos of it on Wooligans. I've also found another crochet pattern using different stitches - here it is. I love the colours that have been used and will be making a few of these for Christmas pressies. The pattern comes from Rachel's Crochet Spot. You can sign up for emails with free patterns, as well as join the site for $10 a month, which gives you access to more of her patterns (I haven't signed up, though!). Her crochet it very inventive and the free patterns are very good. She comes across as a very nice lady!
Well, I still haven't put the ironing board up! I've done lots of other chores, though, but the ironing is desperate so I will maybe do an hour before lunch.
I hope the sun is shining for all of you. The forecast for the UK looks good for the next few days so I can share my weather with you. It's about 28 degrees already and will probably be too hot by lunchtime! Oops - that reminds me, I haven't put the washing out yet.
I must also email the veg pot warmer pattern to my BIL, so that he can print if off and give it to my Mum. Now that she has settled a bit after her move, she wants to knit again and has sorted out two boxes of wool to get through! My poor BIL gets all these emails from me and they are usually knitting patterns; doesn't do his street-cred any good he says!
See you all later.

morning all...just popping in before the clearing begins! Hugs Elaine...one thing I have found from my current situation is that the love and support of family and friends (online or otherwise) does really help get you through the dark moments doesent it? Lovely to be able to do something practical for you - not only will you have lovely blankies but will also save money on leccy cos you'll be snug!
now ideas of france sound good...if things get really bad I said to my brother that I may skip to his vast gite!! Not worried about spiders and they have a cat so I'll be happy!
No knitting yesterday but thats one thing that wont be sold...anything else thats not nailed down is going! Actually feels liberating!
thinking of you pippa...pixie hope oh is ok...will they send him for an mri? Nothing worse than migraine...I find dark room and cool flannel over my eyes helps...
must on as lots to do...auctioneers coming on thurs so need to be decluttered and tidy by then...a huge task!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi everyone,
Just popped in to say hello and send (((hugs))) to all who need them.
Chalky - the blankets look fab, you have done us all proud with your hard work.
All the talk of france and getting away from it all sounds wonderful and makes me want to cry, not having a great time here, love reading all your posts as they help cheer me up.
Love and hugs.xx:jWooligans Totals 2010:
