Wrote to Briege Price at Age Concern NI and got the following patterns from her:

    Veg Pot Warmer - http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/thebigknit/?Page=vegpot_warmer

    Pattern:
Cast on 63 stitches and knit in rib as follows.
    Row 1: K1 *P1 K1 continue from * to end of row
    Row 2: P1 *K1 P1 continue from * to end of row
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have completed 14 rows.
    Cast off

    Making up:
Sew side seams (the short ones) together.

    Other ideas:
Instead of just knitting your veg pot in one colour why not add some stripes?
For a snugly winter look try a 2x2 rib
If you prefer to knit in the round only cast on 62 stitches – less making up this way!

    Squeezies hat - http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/thebigknit/?Page=squeezie_hat

    Pattern:
Cast on 41 stitches and knit in rib as follows.
    Row 1: K1 *P1 K1 continue from * to end of row
    Row 2: P1 *K1 P1 continue from * to end of row
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have completed 5 rows.
Change to Stocking Stitch and knit 12 rows

    Decrease:
Row 1: K2tog on all stitches until last stitch, K1 (21 stitches)
Row 2: K2tog on all stitches until last stitch, K1 (11 stitches)
Row 3: K2tog on all stitches until last stitch, K1 (6 stitches)
Thread yarn through remaining stitches as you slip them off the needle.

    Making up:
    Sew side seams together.
Make a nice Pom Pom for the top.

    Other ideas:
Why not make your squeezies hat stripey as well or add a different colour Pom Pom?
You could embroider a face on your Squeezies hat to give it a fruity personality

Briege also says that each type of knitted item should go in a separate bag, although they can all go in the same envelope but write all the details on the outside of the parcel
    ie
Type and number of knitted items in the package (eg 10 little smoothie hats, 2 big squeezie hats, 1 veg pot warmer)
    Your name and address
(optional) name of knitting group - I usually put Wooligans at moneysavingexpert.com, but if anyone has a snappier way of putting it do say!

    Briege also says:

"1 in 10 people over the age of 65 suffer from malnutrition. Fruit and vegetable are really important to older people to ensure they get enough vitamin C and anti-oxidants - keeping their bodies healthy. innocent and Sainsbury's have joined forces to raise over £250,000 to support Age Concern and Help the Aged with healthy eating and healthy living projects during the cold winter months.

The Big Knit 2009 will be bigger than ever - going across three different products. That means there’s three different things to knit this year: little hats for the smoothies, big hats for the squeezies and woolly warmers for the veg pots. For every wool wearing innocent product sold, innocent and Sainsbury's will donate 26p for little hats, 35p for big hats and 44p for woolly warmers us at Age Concern Help the Aged NI.
I would urge everyone to concentrate on knitting the veg pot warmers as we have been set a target of 10,000 and we are keen to reach it !!!"

I don't know if this means that the Squeezie hats and Veg pot warmers are only needed in Northern Ireland, nor whether the donation amounts only apply there as the information on the Innocent Smoothie site that I access here is different, and doesn't have the extra patterns.
However, I'm sure that whatever anyone wants to make will be welcomed, and will get to the right place if we send every thing to the usual address

Seakay - thanks for all that info and the patterns! Lots to read and it's nice to know which of the three different items they want the most of!

Mrs MP - hope your shoulder gets better soon. You have the perfect GP - knitting, yes, cleaning, no!

Prfungi - I love that pattern; have added it to my 'must do' list!

Well, I've made some cakes and done a few chores. I need to do some 'proper' work before I can pick up my needles again.

Still very overcast here and we've had a bit more rain, so France is behaving very much like the UK today.

Message from Briege after I thanked her for the Innocent knitting patterns:

"Thank you for your support, I would appreciate if anyone of the knitters who are from Northern Ireland are knitting these for us, we would need to receive them here otherwise the money will not be counted as northern Ireland fundraising.

    Many thanks

Thanks for all the info Seakay. I think it's great that 2 similar charities have joined forces to combine their efforts and I may just have a go at the squeezy hats after I finish the smoothie hat I wish I had never started!
