    Hi everyone

Just had a look at the veg pot warmers, they look easy enough I will have a go at them.

Kathy - I did a mexican type IS hat last year in all earthy colours 1 row of each colour, and the ends  took forever to sew in, but it looked really good when it was finished. This year I have Russian joined all my scrap ends together (had quite a large ball in the end) and just knitted until it all ran out. The result was lots of multicoloured hats, which I will take a pic of and post on wooligans before I send them off.

k2tog - I put pom poms on most of mine, didnt buy them though, my little sis bought me a huge bag from a craft fair she went to last year, there were about a hundred in total. Did make a few myself but it was sooo time consuming and they looked silly as I made them too big:o

I had'nt really finished but OH is "STARVIN"
Will try and get back later....but .....the ironing needs doing so I should really do that........maybe ;)

Hi Pippa - I'd love to see photos of your hats! My home made bobbles look silly, too. I don't make them bulky enough and they just look pathetic! I'm not sure if I'll bother this year; as you say, they are time-consuming - you could knit another hat in the time it takes to make one and sew it on! I shall definitely have a go at the veg pot warmers, too.

DS2 and DIL Skyped last night and I had lots of looks at Summer; the last time I saw her she was fast asleep - this time she was wide awake and it was lovely to see her with her eyes open. She is truly gorgeous, feeding and sleeping well, and neither of her parents looked the least bit tired! When I think back to what I looked like after mine were born - about 190 years old!

  • Just a quick call in to read what's happening in the big wide world. Its been tipping it down all day here and the odd electrical interuption too, so I won't be on long. Sorting out some of my patterns - they were all over the place and in such a jumble I could never find anything, so at least I have been busy. My face ache has gone now, so that's all fine. DH didn't bat an eyelid at the extraction, even managed to put away all his dinner last night - so tough eh.
Anne - did that scan of the pattern work ? Away for a cuppa
    Back soon

Hi Jean -we had rain and thunder yesterday morning; it's overcast today and has been threatening to rain, but I've still got two lines of washing dry because it's quite warm. I still think we're having better weather than the UK at the moment. The forecast there is dreadful. I've put most of my patterns in hanging files in my filing cabinet so they are, at long last, easy to find. I have enough space to keep them all categorised, too, the first time I've ever had them in some sort of order.

I'm glad your face ache has gone - typical of a man to be able to shrug off an extraction!

Hi everyone, hope you're all well today. I do my bobbles on a large knitting needle, hold a length of wool along the needle, then wind from the ball until it looks about right, slide off needle and tie the length that you first held, and snip the loops and trim to shape. You need at least a 12mm needle, remember oddpins knitting? Mines a 20mm left over from then.

Hi Kinsey - that sounded so intriguing I had to try it immediately, and it worked really well! How ever did you learn to do it? It's so simple and produced a far better bobble than I've ever made. Thank you very much for sharing your technique with us! I remember oddpin knitting, too, and still have the needles!

Glad it worked for you mioliere, no idea where I got it from, part of life's rich pageant I guess.
I loved the oddpins for knitting, wasn't so keen on the results though!

Oddpins knitting was easy to do and grew so quickly but I agree, the results were not that great! Thinking about it has been a real trip down memory lane!

I seem to remember the best thing I made with oddpins was a bedjacket, which would now be called a shrug. Wonder if I can find the pattern........
  • Kinsey - I use the same technique but with a little ½" wide ruler I actually quite like making bobbles as can be seen on my IS hats on wooligans - I am so glad I did them all early on in the year, I am far too busy now trying to do some stuff for Cxxxstxxs!
Still pouring and blowing a hooligan
