How very timely Pam! My DS2 saw me making a preemie hat the other week and has requested a hat and scarf (and gloves:eek:) of his own - in red of course!. DS 1 then requested the same in specific shades of green. I think I am going to have to get on with them despite the fact that it's July because everytime DS2 sees me knitting something he asks if it is his hat. Because I was struggling and getting nowhere with dpns, the other week (pre resolution, for those of you who know about it!) I bought a very short circular hoping to use it for socks, mittens and preemie hats but I think it's still too long for those so I will have to persevere! Going to try a simplish hat pattern for DS2 on the circular now as have managed a toddlerish sized hat.
Don't know what I'm going to do about the gloves......
Hi K2 -
The first one is an easy twisted rib I'd try that first. Do you want plain or fancy gloves ? with or without fingers or mittens ? Let me know & I'll do a search, it don't take long.
luv
Pam.

Hi Pam
Found a lovely mitten with removable finger bit pattern
http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/mittens/mittens.htm
that I was hoping to do on my shortie circular for LH as well as kids but not enough stitches to go roundso will have another look at the dpns......just can't get the hang of holding so many blimmin needles! Might have to see what youtube suggests - 4 hands maybe?
Just cast on for a hat and then something went wrong so will retry after a nice bath.
What projects have you got on the go Pam?0 -
Hi K2, you might want to look at youtube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ6gvswaCoI&feature=related
loads of videos for circular knitting tips, magic loop might be the way forward. My smallest circ is 12" but I want to try 9" for socks. How big is your 'little' one?
What projects do I have?:o - you sure you want to know!
I have loads of things on the go just now, I tend to move from one to another depending on my mood. I have
2 baby blankets, 1 knit 1 crochet; deadline for finish end of July - oops!
Cardi for Mum; - for autumn/winter - halfway on 1st front
trying to do Socks for Mum;:rotfl:
1 crochet shoulder wrap + 1 more promised for autumn.
3 lace knit shawls/scarves - hopefully for xmas gifts
my mohair throw - with my old stash plus loads of lovely stuff passed on or got for me by some lovely people on here & LH
my "portable project" - my lacy washcloth bedspread, I keep wool/needles & a pattern sheet in the car and in my "big" out'n'about bag for when I get stuck anywhere!
Then, of course there are preemie hats - my ultimate busy finger/braindead thing to do!
I also need 6 male (kids & adult) 1 - 9yr old girl and 2 more adult girl things for xmas, found a pattern that could suit all the males & maybe the 9yr old girl - this hat http://www.fortheloveofyarn.com/Issues/08Winter/patterns/hodology.shtml
Don't worry - the only thing that suffers is the housework, I don't go out to work just now & there's only me and dog here so no-one starves. All the "my" projects are ongoing for as long as it takes - not a problem.:rotfl:
There now, I've waffled again - this time I'm blaming you!!!!!
luv

Wow, Pam, that's a lot of projects! K2tog - that was a brilliant question to ask - it would be really interesting to hear what projects everyone else has on the go at the moment! I have a nearly-finished baby cardi for the grandchild-to-be, and a crochet preemie hat for Shelley on the go at the moment. I've finished the Memory and Friendship squares ready to post to Chalky (once I've sewn in the ends which I will definitely do some time today!); next, I have decided to do a crochet shoulder wrap (from that great pattern you found, Pam), and a little dragon I've found a pattern for, for my Mum for her birthday in September; I have also decided to crochet a log cabin lap rug for my DGS (9) and a squares lap rug for my DGD (6), both for Christmas presents, plus a woolly hat for each of them (if anyone has a Baker boy hat pattern, I'd be grateful!). The grandchildren are the best of friends and sit snuggled up together on the sofa in the winter, and I thought a lap rug each would be really appreciated. My DH still has the crochet squares blanket that his Nan made for him nearly fifty years ago, which is one of his favourite possessions. It's too fragile to use, but treasured all the same, for the work and love that went into it.
All my preemie items I shall gather together and post once I'm back in the UK, because I might do some more on the boat on the way over!
Don't forget, also, that it would be lovely to see photos of your other projects, either on here or on the Wooligans site! I'm really nosy!!
Anyway, as I say, baby cardie nearly finished, then I'll do some more preemie hats. Oh, I've just remembered that my friend's daughter is coming over next week with her new baby (four month old girl), so I shall do a little hat and booties in pink for the baby next. Once I know whether my new grandchild is a boy or a girl, I can start making a few more things for Christnmas.
I also need to stock up on some more wool in baby colours, plus some colours for the lap rugs and the shoulder wrap, so I shall do that when I'm back in the UK, too. Wool is way too expensive, with a limited choice, out here! I re-sorted my stash the other day and did a sort of stock-check to work out what wool to buy. I shall have fun in the woolshop and will suggest that DH doesn't come with me!!
Anyway, what a lot of waffle!

Chalky welcome back sometime today, i hope you had a lovely time
pam and kathy your projects sound lovley. I havent been on the wooligans site for ages i must pop over and have a look at the photos.
yesterdays meal was lovely thank you all for the good wishes.
might go into the next town later with DD and youngest DS to sort DDs provisional licence, which will mean i can pick up some more orange wool and get some white while im there. i noticed LOu has posted how pleased sands were with the blankets we all did them and they would like some of us to continue making them white ones. LOu has said if we enjoyed making them to carry on so i might try and get another couple done its just that they seem so time consuming. I definately want to make some babies christmas hats for that challenge. didnt get any knitting on my school blanket done yesterday so hopng to get at least a couple of squares done today.
have a lovely day allSPC~12 ot 124

mioliere you really need some ladies with you to help with wool shopping:D. and some very large suitcases.
Interesting to read what other people have wip, I'm thinking of christmas presents, but the males are always difficult, all have hats, gloves and scarves. Children are all girls so that's easy. I found a pattern for spider web mit type things for my goth DIL, she's always hard to find things for. have to keep looking for the rest. Thanks for all the links.
I think I've got the squares right now, they should be finished today, then I've got some buntings to sew up and finish off and get posted.
Hope you're ok maytaurus.
Thinking of you Elaine.
Shelly are you feeling any better yet?
hugs to everyone.0 -
Morning all
Hope everyone is well.
My goodness pam, you have got a lot on the go. I thought I was bad I normally have about three things going and about another twenty buzzing round my head to start next.
I am about to start a bride and groom from jean greenhowe's pattern for my sil who's getting married at the beginning of august, I've got a tie front short sleeved cardi on the go for me but thats been put on the back burner for the moment.
Quick question - How easy is it to knit on circular needles? I'd like to have a go at some of the hat patterns from your links pam, and also keep seeing dpn's mentioned what are these? sorry for being dim.
Have a good day all.x:jWooligans Totals 2010:

i think dpn's are double pointed needles so you can use 3 or 4 to knit in the round or turn them to twist the areas of the knitting for cables etc. if im wrong someelse will give you the proper meaning but thats whats ive always understood it to meanSPC~12 ot 124

Thank you Mrs Moneypenny,
I feel really silly now, I 've never used them myself, I remember my mum used to knit socks for my dad in aran wool to go in his boots for the winter and she used to use them, I never knew what they were called.
Makes sense now, thank you.x:jWooligans Totals 2010:

Hello everybody
Firstly I just want to send special thoughts to Elaine and her family. I am sure the shock will have started to wear off by now and I send lots of loving thoughts at this very sad time.
Had a quick skim through the pages----
Shelley hope you are on the mend !
Mrs Moneypenny -- Congratulations for yesterday. Glad you had a good time.
TO ALL -- Lovely to catch up with all your news and projects. It is amazing what we can achieve !!!
Speaking of which I came home to 3 parcels and the squares are wonderful. 1 parcel did not have a name but squares were lovely anyway. So the fun begins. As I said I will take piccies as I progress so that you can all enjoy the lovely work .
Well we had a great time but it is so lovely to be home. Village life versus the big city is always a great contrast and of course accentuated this time by the concerns over swine flu. People wearing masks etc etc. I was trying my hardest not to be nuerotic in a packed underground train and somebody sneezing. As for the credit crunch -- there seemed very littlle evidence of it in the Harrods sale . It was packed and people were spending sooooo much money. I on the other hans bought DD1 a nail file with Harrods on -- £! !!!
I am always amazed how different people arer . There were starter portions of Fish Soup @ £18.95 -- and there was a long queue !!
Anyway the Lion King was a West End show at its best and so colourful and dramatic . A real treat. One of those occasions that will stay with you for ever. We also picked up a deal on 2 tickets for the JerseY Boys- the life story of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons-- Brilliant!!
Well I knitted a lot -- on the train up and back and in resting times in the hotel.
A while back someone posted a gorgeous pattern for little hearts ans as I am going to 3 weddings in August I knitted some to adorn the presents and I think they are great and a little bit different. So thanks for posting it whoever you are !!
Well only 2 hedgehogs were born in the city and they have soon scurried off to the hedgie heap in the country where much snuffling goes on. Of course I thought Hampstead and Hackney 2 very suitable names !!
I have had notification of the poetry letter so thats added to my list.
Have good days everyone . Gentle thoughts to all those in need and Congratulations to all those celebratingTry and do a good deed every day.0
