ive just looked at the photos on page 191 of this thread and ive confused myself even more. is the little square on that photo how it should look? because it shows one with just the 2 logs but says its half completed. and my big squares have one less set of blocks than the ones in the picture butthey do measure 15 inches across.

i think im going to send my squares off to chalky and see what she says.

i might have got it right first time without realising it then:T, i read it through the second time and thought i'd got it wrong and it should have been a square with two logs going down two sides BUT doing it with 4 makes a miniature of the centre of the bigger one so the colours are the same and the pattern will be. also if we have both done them like this even if its wrong there will be at least two of them to keep each other company;)

Make that three, I've done the same!

Any will be fine ---Please don't worry
The little 1 on the picture is not complete - I just put it on as work in progress

The memory squares according to the pattern have a small central square i.e Cast on 20 stitches and knit 38 rows.
Then knitting around the square to make the 15 inches there are 3 logs each one having a cast on row, 19 rows then a cast off row. I think as always some problems arise because of different wools so never mind the exact number of rows just try for the nearest to 15 ins

To be honest I really dont want to worry anyone. Both blankets are such a lovely idea it doesnt matter a jot if things are not all the same. It will just reflect our caring and our different personalities !!

Please pm me if you want my address.

    Hi Everyone
Gosh it's quiet on here tonight!
I have finally finished my friendship square as it took me ages to get it as I wanted it to be.
I am just about to cast on for my memory square - hope I can cope with the pattern :o.
Thank you all for your good wishes for DS2 and DH. DS2 is now right as rain. DH not so, but on the mend hopefully.
Hope everyone is well - distant (((hugs))) for those that need or want them - distant because you don't want my stinking cold!

    Hi peeps!

Just had a real fright and needed to tell someone about it – here I am all alone – little dog asleep and snoring, went to the loo putting the light on for a change and then – aaargh! Caught sight of meself in the mirror,:eek::eek: if the mirror could take pics you could use them for Halloween.:rotfl: OK the hair needs cutting and it’s a hot sticky night but really, what do I do to myself when I think all I’m doing is watching telly and knitting! I looked like a cartoon person having an electric shock - really scary – cant work out how I get bits going at right angles – phew!

Off to get a late nightcap to recover……….

Just remembered why I dropped in (before the loo incident) tonight I’ve found a different pattern for a knitted boob! – this one uses ‘short rows’ technique, wondered if it might be easier on achy hands.

I’ll give it a try when I’ve cleared a couple of “wips”

K2tog - glad DS is better, so sorry you've succumbed - yes its very quiet - I think everyone's been knitting - or maybe twiddling their hair like me !

    night night, God bless all.

    luv

Shez, did you miss off Pippa's 4 vent hats from your blog in the challenge totals?
Also, do the tea cosies count as vent hats as I find them much easier than the flap hats but want to make sure to do the things on the challenge that you need.

Should be in bed by now......

Hi all. Up early again - it's almost 5am here and I'm on my second cuppa.

Prfungi - I had to laugh at your post. I don't think you're alone; no-one likes catching sight of themselves unexpectedly in the mirror, do they? I always think 'do I really look like that?'. I'm sure my brain thinks I'm still about eighteen years old but then the mirror tells the truth and spoils the illusion. Having said that, you may be knitting so frantically and touching your hair, that you are building up some static!

I love the boob pattern - I shall give it a try. I also like the idea of it as a stress-reliever for a bloke, as one of the comments on there suggested. I made my BIL a pair of boobs, sewn together, for Christmas last year, complete with nipple tassels. He loved them! I'm going to make him some smaller ones this year (using an Innocent Smoothie hat pattern for size) so that he can have them hanging from his rear-view mirror. I just know he'll appreciate them!

Well, I should finish my Memory Square today, then I shall make the Friendship square. I love the pattern and will try it in chunky wool for a cushion cover for my Mum for Christmas. I shall also experiment with a crochet one, too, for a preemie blanket. It's a very satisfying pattern, so thanks, Chalky, for sharing it with us. I shall pm you later for your address.

I have made a good start on DH's end-of-year accounts, so will do another couple of hours on them this morning, then do some more knitting this afternoon. We are finally going to treat ourselves to a satellite at the weekend. I think almost four months without real TV is enough! We've never watched a lot of TV, but miss the way it sometimes makes you sit down in the evenings, if there's something on you really want to watch. We've exhausted our supply of videos and DVDs, even the freebie ones, although it's been fun watching some of them. By all accounts, French TV is pretty dire (my French neighbours told us!), and a satellite will ensure that we can catch all the main UK channels and some of the freeview ones.

Anyway, off to have a look at the site with the boob pattern.

Me again - On that boob site that Prfungi found, I've just found this http://www.geocities.com/mama_bear_007/Russian_Join.html for changing colours, or joining in the next ball of wool, without knots. I'm going to try it later today and let you know how I got on. It looks simple but brilliant!

morning all, k2tog, glad to hear your son is on the mend. pam, i often frighten myself by looking in the mirror in the middle of the night, my hair is bleached, and very dry, and that seems to pick up lots of static, and always sticks up, especially on hot nights, like last night was.
finished my memory square last night, and have made started on the friendship square.
elaine, you are in our thoughts, hope you are coping as well as can be, and hope family is taking care of you.
kathy, uk tv isnt that great at the moment, or maybe its just me , cant seem to settle into watching much lately
hugs to all that need one

    morning all
K2tog glad the little one is on the mend, it is a worry isnt it.
kathy glad the accounts are going easier than feared.
LOL at Pam -weve got a large mirror at the bottom of the stairs i try not to look in it;)
well i thik ive realised where ive gone wrong on the squares the wool i am using is the 25grm balls with 'art of knitting' bands on it doesn't actually say what it is and i fear it may be slightly thicker than DK which is making my squares come up bigger that why ive got less logs than the proper ones but mine are the size asked for so ive made a start on packaging them up and they will be heading down the post office later this morning.
ive done one 15incher and four 7 1/2 inchers. m planing on going back to my school squares for a while now but liek kathy siad i did enjoy that pattern and im planning to use it again to perhaps make some christmas gift throws or cushion covers in chunkier wool.

BTW youngest DD took yongest DS for a walk yesterday to the post office in the next town (worked him up an appetite and kept him off the playstation for a couple of hours as its over a mile away;)) away the post office is in the co op and i remembered they have a wool dept upstairs so i asked her to get a 100 grm ball of orange DK for my school blanket, it was only £1.50 and its a patons one so might be worth checking if you have a co op what yours have on offer.

will pop back at some point but want to get the washing out and do my excercises on the wii before the kids wake up:D
