Am partway through my friendship square and happy so far but will see how it looks when it's finished as I have made up the numbers.
ISOM, nobody should worry about their output. We all have different commitments and other things we do. I often do the little preemie stuff when I have a bigger (often non-charity) project on the go just for some variety or when I'm watching the telly and don't want to concentrate too much. It all makes a difference to someone.

    Night all x

    Hi everyone.

In Search of Me - please, please don't worry about your totals. There's no pressure on anyone. Even one tiny hat will help a baby in need. We all have different commitments, and some people have more spare time than others. I find it hard to do very much at all here because I don't seem to get much sit-down time - maybe an hour or so in the evenings; I want to do more but it just doesn't seem to work out. You are still learning to knit and it's not something you can learn overnight. Absolutely no-one's totals are pathetic, so please don't put yourself under any pressure. That's an order!

Jean - no fireworks overnight here. For a change, the sun is shining (it's been cloudy for days now) and hopefully will stay like that for the celebrations today. BIL changed his internet package (he was paying 60 euros a month!); as soon as he cancelled the old one, they cut the phone off. He lives in Mont Blanc, but not THE Mont Blanc, so naturally his internet box was sent to the wrong Mont Blanc - despite it being a registered package, the Post Office there kept it for a week before doing anything about it, then refused to send it on saying they were not a courier service (!); France Telecom then said that a new box had been sent out; it has not turned up and yesterday they said they haven't actually sent it! So, business as usual! I really cannot understand how they can keep getting things wrong - well, I can really, Most of the French still don't know how to drive, so no wonder they can't run a commercial enterprise! Anyway, enough of that; I hope I'll get used to the inefficiency but, TBH, I don't think I will! Hope you have a good Bastille Day!

    Of for a cuppa.

in search of me, any one single item you make will be something extra added to the totals ad that will make a huge difference to the person it is given to so please dont think anything you d is not important or valued. you have done fantastically well in joining us:T.

HI MRS MONEYPENNY AND ALL RE INFO ABOUT SQUARES.

SQUARES-- Again THANK YOU - I hope everyone is enjoying doing them . I know we all love choosing the wool. I am quite happy to sew them both. DMIL will help and at least it will save people having 2 lots of posting. We leave to go back to Spain in early October so I guess anytime is fine up until say the 21st of September. I don't want to put anybody under any pressure so will just welcome the squares and get going ,colours allowing as they arrive. Please pm me for the address when you need it. As I have said I will take photos so we can all see the progress.

I am thinking I may do a few rows of double crochet around the edge of the whole blankets so that they look finished which should help any uneveness in size

PIPPAS-That sounds a really good idea -- just to keep an eye on the size as you knit because different wools make such a difference and just add or subtract a couple of lines to a log row. But as I said please dont worry too much this is all about the love not the product being perfect.

I am sure which ever charity gets the blanket it will be appreciated. With Elaines I expect the squres will be more accurate because they are smaller and as I say if I do a couple of rounds of doulble crochet it will look really finished as I would like hers to be especially SPECIAL from us all

In Search of Me --- Please , please don't feel bad about totals. I for 1 am in a very different position than a lot of people. After working full time for many years and bringing up 3 children
I never picked up the needles for years. My husband and I are now retired and as yet have no grandchildren so I have a lot of free time. I also do really suffer with " empty hand syndrome" where I can not settle doing nothing, so I knit - Also we spend quite a lot of time when we are in the Uk with my DMIL who suffers greatly with arthritis and I find it easier just to sit with her, which is what she wants , if I am doing something again knitting fits the bill.

I was lying in bed this morning analysing the log effect ( what a sad life I lead !!) I realised that the pick up row seems tricky but in actual fact it is easy because in reality you are picking up from every stitch in the row before IYSWIM.
Anyway I hope those who are enjoying them continue and if you would prefer please ,please just knit a plain square which will add a lovely texture to the blanket.

I am soooo looking forward to seeing some squares!!!

Sadly, an old friend of my Mums who was very kind to her before she died and has been to me since has just been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer so I am taking some time to knit her a little lap blanket as I hope it brings her some comfort. She is only 64 ! What sad times.

Well OH and I are off to try and buy some bikes. I really do need to put down the needles and get some exercise and he loves exercise full stop. In Spain in particular there are some lovely flat routes we can ride and it will be lovely to do something together. Devon lanes are another matter-- very hilly near us !!

Have good days everyone and special love to all.

I hope the newbies are feeling included as we would love you to feel a real part of this merry band.
Try and do a good deed every day.

    Hi everyone,

Fun run went ahead yesterday, finally! It had been cancelled twice due the rain last week, luckily it didn't start raining here until gone 4pm. I am so unfit running round with 5 & 7 year olds is hard work, lots of fun was had by all and a few pennies raised for the school too.

I have finished my friendship square, I used smaller needles this time as my first attempt came out at 8 1/2". So I'll use the same one's for my memory square which I'll start later, I really like the pattern too I get bored doing plain knitting so changing colours for the logs breaks it up.

Chalky - I remember the hills in devon well, my grandad lives in plymouth we used to go and visit in the summer hols as kids, he took us all over devon and cornwall. I'll be in Bodmin in a couple of weeks for a wedding and I can't wait haven't been down that way for nearly 20 years:eek:
Mioliere - I am so sorry I feel like I've put the mockers on your update this week, all you've done is corrections since my post on monday. I still think you do a great job, I shall keep quiet from now on so as not to jinx it for you.

    My goodness I've waffled quite a bit haven't I?

    Take care all.x

    Only Girl - it's a rare update that I don't get wrong, so please don't think you're a jinx!

We had to come home from the Bastille Day 'do' to sleep off all the food and wine, before going back for the fireworks and dancing. We've had the best paella ever, followed by bread and cheese, fresh fruit salad and coffee. Plenty of Sangria and wine, too. Our neighbouring farmer invited us to sit on his table, which was lovely, and the Mairie told us he was very happy we had come along. I think it's official - we are the only English people in the commune! The locals are very nice and one of the chaps on our table tried very hard to practice his English on us.

Anyway, we've had numerous cuppas at home, as well as a snooze, and will be going back up there later.

Chalky - we're thinking about buying a couple of bikes here; the roads are very safe and there are lots of places to go. I used to love cycling when I was younger; it's great exercise for the mind as well as the body, I think!

Hope you are all having a good day.

ISOM - yes, that's right, the Mairie is the local Mayor. Ours is very nice and well-loved by all the locals. The weather has been quite cloudy for a few days now, but the sun has made an appearance today. It rained a bit this morning, but not for long. Temperature is around 25 degrees at the moment - just right for me!

Well, I've just had to pick loads of plums that are almost ready to eat. A branch fell of the plum tree and all the plums fell on the ground. I shall have to do something with them - I've just found an easy recipe for Plum Liqueur so will give that a go tomorrow.

Anyway, off for the rest of the 'do' in about half an hour - more wine, I expect! Cheers - or, as they say round here 'Sante!'
